Matthaeus 6
1 Hütet euch, eure Gerechtigkeit zu üben vor den Menschen, um von ihnen gesehen zu werden. Wo anders, so habt ihr keinen Lohn bei eurem Vater in den Himmeln.
But take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen by them; otherwise ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
2 Wenn du also Almosen gibst, so laß nicht vor dir her trompeten, wie die Heuchler thun, in den Synagogen und auf den Gassen, damit sie von den Menschen gepriesen werden; wahrlich, ich sage euch, sie haben ihren Lohn dahin.
Therefore when thou doest alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Truly do I say to you, They have received their reward.
3 Wenn aber du Almosen gibst, so möge deine linke Hand nicht wissen, was deine rechte thut,
But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth;
4 auf daß dein Almosen im Verborgenen bleibe, so wird dein Vater, der im Verborgenen sieht, dir vergelten.
that thine alms may be in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will reward thee.
5 Und wenn ihr betet, so soll es bei euch nicht sein wie bei den Heuchlern; die verrichten gern ihr Gebet in den Synagogen und an den Straßenecken stehend, um sich den Menschen zu zeigen. Wahrlich, ich sage euch, sie haben ihren Lohn dahin.
And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites are; for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Truly do I say to you, They have received their reward.
6 Du aber, wenn du betest, so gehe in deine Kammer und schließe deine Thüre und bete zu deinem Vater, der im Verborgenen ist, so wird dein Vater, der im Verborgenen sieht, dir vergelten.
But do thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and, when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will reward thee.
7 Wenn ihr aber betet, so sollt ihr nicht plappern, wie die Heiden; denn sie meinen, sie werden erhört mit ihrer Wortmacherei.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do; for they think that they shall be heard for the multitude of their words.
8 So stellet euch ihnen nicht gleich; denn euer Vater weiß, was ihr bedürfet, ehe ihr's von ihm fordert.
Be not ye therefore like them; for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9 So sollt ihr denn also beten:
After this manner therefore pray ye: —Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
10 Unser Vater, der du bist in den Himmeln! Geheiligt werde dein Name. Es komme dein Reich. Es geschehe dein Wille wie im Himmel so auch auf Erden.
thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;
11 Unser nötiges Brot gib uns heute.
give us this day our daily bread;
12 Und vergib uns unsere Schulden, wie auch wir vergeben haben unsern Schuldnern.
and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors;
13 Und führe uns nicht in Versuchung, sondern erlöse uns vom Bösen.
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
14 Denn wenn ihr den Menschen ihre Fehler vergebt, so wird euch euer himmlischer Vater auch vergeben.
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you;
15 Wenn ihr aber den Menschen nicht vergebet, so wird euer Vater eure Fehler auch nicht vergeben.
but if ye do not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
16 Wenn ihr aber fastet, so sollt ihr nicht trübselig drein sehen wie die Heuchler; denn sie entstellen ihr Angesicht, um sich den Menschen vorzustellen mit ihrem Fasten. Wahrlich, ich sage euch: sie haben ihren Lohn dahin.
Moreover, when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance; for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to be fasting. Truly do I say to you, They have received their reward.
17 Du aber, wenn du fastest, salbe dein Haupt und wasche dein Angesicht,
But do thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;
18 um dich nicht den Menschen vorzustellen mit deinem Fasten, sondern deinem Vater, der im Verborgenen ist; so wird dein Vater der im Verborgenen sieht, dir vergelten.
that thou appear not to men to be fasting, but to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will reward thee.
19 Sammelt euch nicht Schätze auf Erden, wo Motte und Rost zerstört und wo Diebe nachgraben und stehlen.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth, where the moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal;
20 Sammelt euch aber Schätze im Himmel, wo weder Motte noch Rost zerstört und wo keine Diebe nachgraben und stehlen.
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumeth, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.
21 Denn wo dein Schatz ist, da ist auch dein Herz.
For where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also.
22 Das Licht des Leibes ist das Auge. Wenn nun dein Auge richtig ist, so wird dein ganzer Leib hell haben.
The eye is the lamp of the body. If thine eye he clear, thy whole body will be in light;
23 Wenn aber dein Auge nichts taugt, wird dein ganzer Leib finster haben. So also, wenn das innere Licht in dir zur Finsternis wird, wie groß muß die Finsternis sein!
but if thine eye be disordered, thy whole body will be in darkness. If then the light that is within thee is darkness, how great that darkness!
24 Niemand kann zwei Herren dienen; entweder wird er den einen hassen und den andern lieben; oder er wird jenem anhängen und den andern verachten. Ihr könnet nicht Gott dienen und dem Mamon.
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate one, and love the other; or else he will cleave to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 Darum sage ich euch: sorget nicht für euer Leben, was ihr esset, noch für euren Leib, was ihr anziehet. Ist nicht das Leben mehr als die Nahrung? und der Leib mehr als das Kleid?
Therefore I say to you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment?
26 Sehet die Vögel des Himmels an: sie säen nicht, sie ernten nicht, sie sammeln nicht in Scheunen, euer himmlischer Vater ernährt sie. Seid ihr nicht viel besser als sie?
Behold the birds of the air, that they sow not, nor reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much greater value than they?
27 Wer aber unter euch kann mit Sorgen seiner Lebenslänge eine Elle zusetzen?
But who of you by anxious thought can add to his life one cubit?
28 Und was sorgt ihr für die Kleidung? Achtet auf die Lilien des Feldes, wie sie wachsen; sie arbeiten nicht, sie spinnen nicht.
And why are ye anxious about raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They toil not, neither do they spin;
29 Ich sage euch aber: auch Salomo in aller seiner Herrlichkeit war nicht angethan wie eine von ihnen.
and yet I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed like one of these.
30 Wenn aber Gott das Gras des Feldes, das heute steht und morgen in den Ofen geworfen wird, also bekleidet, wie nicht viel mehr euch, ihr Kleingläubige?
And if God so clothes the herbage of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into an oven, will he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 So sollt ihr denn nicht sorgen und sagen: was sollen wir essen, was sollen wir trinken, was sollen wir anziehen?
Therefore be not anxious, saying, What shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or wherewith shall we he clothed?
32 Um alles das kümmern sich die Heiden. Euer himmlischer Vater weiß ja, daß ihr dies alles bedürfet.
For after all these things do the gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 Trachtet aber zuerst nach seinem Reich und Recht, so wird euch dies alles zugelegt werden.
But seek first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will also be given you.
34 Sorget nun nicht auf den morgenden Tag; der morgende Tag wird für sich selbst sorgen. Jeder Tag hat genug an seiner Plage.
Be not then anxious about the morrow; for the morrow will be anxious about itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.
