Sprueche 1
1 Die Sprüche Salomos, des Davidssohnes und Herrschers über Israel,
The Proverbs of Solomon son of David, who reigned in Israel;
2 sind dazu da, daß man Charakter und Weisheit würdige und kluge Worte wohl verstehe
to know wisdom and instruction, and to perceive words of understanding;
3 und Zucht und Anstand lerne, was recht und rechtlich, ehrlich sei,
to receive also hard saying, and to understand true justice, and [how] to direct judgment;
4 daß Bildung Unerfahrene empfangen und daß die Jugend Lebenskunst erlerne.
that he might give subtlety to the simple, and to the young man discernment and understanding.
5 Vernimmt ein Weiser sie, so kann er seine Rede fesselnder gestalten; ein kluger Mann kann sich die richtige Belehrung sichern.
For by the hearing of these a wise man will be wiser, and man of understanding will gain direction;
6 Er kann das Gleichnis und den Sinnspruch faßlicher gestalten, wie auch der Weisen Worte, ihre dunklen Reden. -
and will understand a parable, and a dark speech; the saying of the wise also, and riddles.
7 Die Furcht des Herrn ist Anfang der Erkenntnis, Weisheit, Bildung. Nur Toren sind's, die sie verachten.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and [there is] good understanding to all that practise it: and piety toward God is the beginning of discernment; but the ungodly will set at nought wisdom and instruction.
8 Der väterlichen Zucht, mein Sohn, gehorche! Der Mutter Mahnung achte nicht gering!
Hear, [my] son, the instruction of thy father, and reject not the rules of thy mother.
9 Sie zieren wie ein Kranz dein Haupt und deinen Hals wie Kettenschmuck.
For thou shalt receive for thine head a crown of graces, and a chain of gold round thy neck.
10 Mein Sohn, wenn dich Verbrecher locken, folg ihnen nicht!
[My] son, let not ungodly men lead thee astray, neither consent thou [to them].
11 Wenn sie dir sagen: "Halt's mit uns! Wir haben einen Anschlag gegen einen Menschen vor; wir wollen ungefährdet im Versteck Arglosen auflauern.
If they should exhort thee, saying, Come with us, partake in blood, and let us unjustly hide the just man in the earth:
12 Wir wollen selbst am Leben bleiben und sie verschlingen gleich der Unterwelt, mit Haut und Haar als solche, die zur Grube fahren. (Sheol h7585)
and let us swallow him alive, as Hades [would], and remove the memorial of him from the earth: (Sheol h7585)
13 Und wir gewinnen alles mögliche kostbare Gut und füllen unsere Häuser mit dem Raub.
let us seize on his valuable property, and let us fill our houses with spoils:
14 Du darfst auch mit uns teilen; wir alle haben einen Beutel."
but do thou cast in thy lot with us, and let us all provide a common purse, and let us have one pouch:
15 Mein Sohn, geh nicht auf einem Weg mit ihnen! Halt deinen Fuß von ihren Pfaden fern!
go not in the way with them, but turn aside thy foot from their paths:
16 Denn ihre Füße laufen dem Verderben zu und eilen blutigem Tod entgegen.
[For their feet run to do evil, and are swift to shed blood. ]
17 Vergeblich wird man Netze spannen vor den Blicken der beschwingten Vögel;
for nets are not without cause spread for birds.
18 sie aber lauern auf ihr eigen Blut und stellen sich selbst nach dem Leben.
For they that are concerned in murder store up evils for themselves; and the overthrow of transgressors is evil.
19 So ist das Schicksal eines jeden, der auf unrechten Gewinn ausgeht. Er bringt ihn um sein Leben.
These are the ways of all that perform lawless deeds; for by ungodliness they destroy their own life.
20 Auf Straßen ruft die Weisheit; auf Plätzen ruft sie laut.
Wisdom sings aloud in passages, and in the broad places speaks boldly.
21 Hoch oben auf den Mauern predigt sie, an Stadttoren; vor aller Welt nimmt sie das Wort:
And she makes proclamation on the top of the walls, and sits by the gates of princes; and at the gates of the city boldly says,
22 "Wie lange liebt ihr Toren noch Betörung, gefällt den Dünkelhaften Spott und hassen Toren Einsicht?
So long as the simple cleave to justice, they shall not be ashamed: but the foolish being lovers of haughtiness, having become ungodly have hated knowledge, and are become subject to reproofs.
23 Ihr kommt auf meine Mahnrede zurück. Fürwahr, ich sag euch unumwunden, was ich auf dem Herzen habe. Ich tue meine Warnungen euch kund.
Behold, I will bring forth to you the utterance of my breath, and I will instruct you in my speech.
24 Ich rief; ihr aber wolltet nicht; ich winkte euch, und niemand gab drauf acht.
Since I called, and ye did not hearken; and I spoke at length, and ye gave no heed;
25 Ihr schluget meinen Ratschlag in den Wind und mochtet meine Rüge nicht.
but ye set at nought my counsels, and disregarded my reproofs;
26 So lache ich bei eurem Unglück nur und spotte, wenn euch Angst befällt,
therefore I also will laugh at your destruction; and I will rejoice against [you] when ruin comes upon you:
27 wenn wie ein Ungewitter euer Schrecken kommt, einherfährt gleich dem Sturmwind euer Unglück und Not und Drangsal euch befällt.
yea when dismay suddenly comes upon you, and [your] overthrow shall arrive like a tempest; and when tribulation and distress shall come upon you, or when ruin shall come upon you.
28 Dann rufen sie mich an; ich gebe keine Antwort. Sie suchen, aber finden mich nicht mehr.
For it shall be that when ye call upon me, I will not hearken to you: wicked men shall seek me, but shall not find [me].
29 Erkenntnis haben sie gehaßt und nach der Furcht des Herren nicht gefragt,
For they hated wisdom, and did not choose the word of the Lord:
30 sie wollten nichts von meinem Rate wissen, und meine Rüge haben sie verschmäht.
neither would they attend to my counsels, but derided my reproofs.
31 So mögen sie denn ihres Handels Frucht genießen, sich sättigen mit dem, was sie sich selbst bereitet!
Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and shall be filled with their own ungodliness.
32 Ihr Fehlgehn bringt sie, diese Dummen, um; Sorglosigkeit vernichtet diese Toren.
For because they wronged the simple, they shall be slain; and an inquisition shall ruin the ungodly.
33 Wer aber mir gehorcht, der kann in Ruhe wohnen und unbesorgt vor Unheilsschrecken sein."
But he that hearkens to me shall dwell in confidence, and shall rest securely from all evil.
