Jeremia 37

1 Und Sedekias, des Josias Sohn, ward König, anstelle Jojachins, des Sohnes Jojakims, den Nebukadrezar, Babels König, einst zum König über das Land Juda eingesetzt.

And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

2 Doch weder er noch seine Diener noch die Bevölkerung des Landes hörten auf das Wort des Herrn, das er durch den Propheten Jeremias, redete.

But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

3 Nun sandte König Sedekias den Jehukal, Sohn des Selemia, dazu den Priester Sophonjas, Maasejas Sohn, zu Jeremias, dem Propheten, mit der Weisung: "Fleh doch für uns zum Herrn, zu unsrem Gott!"

And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.

4 Und Jeremias ging noch immer unterm Volk umher, weil man ihn noch nicht eingekerkert hatte.

Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.

5 Inzwischen brach das Heer des Pharao aus Ägypten auf. Als die Chaldäer, die Jerusalem belagerten, die Kunde davon hörten, zogen sie sich von Jerusalem zurück.

Then Pharaoh’s army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

6 Darauf erging das Wort des Herrn an den Propheten Jeremias also lautend:

Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

7 "So spricht der Herr, Gott Israels: Zum Judakönig sprecht, der euch zu mir gesandt, mich zu befragen, also: 'Fürwahr, das Heer des Pharao, das euch zu Hilfe ausgezogen, kehrt wieder in sein Land zurück, in das Ägypterland!

Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

8 Dann kommen die Chaldäer wieder, belagern abermals die Stadt, erobern und verbrennen sie.'

And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.

9 So spricht der Herr: 'Ah! Täuscht euch nicht und wähnet nicht, es ziehen die Chaldäer wirklich von uns ab. Sie sind nicht weggezogen.

Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

10 Und schlüget ihr die ganze Heeresmacht der euch belagernden Chaldäer, und blieben nur noch einige Verwundete davon in ihren Zelten einzeln übrig, sie ständen auf, und sie verbrannten diese Stadt.'"

For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained [but] wounded men among them, [yet] should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

11 Als nun die Heermacht der Chaldäer von Jerusalem abzog, wegen der Heermacht Pharaos,

And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,

12 ging von Jerusalem auch Jeremias, um ins Gebiet von Benjamin sich zu begeben und dort im Stamme eine Erbschaft anzutreten.

Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.

13 Als er ins Benjaminstor trat, war auf der Wache dort ein Mann mit Namen Jeria, Selemjas Sohn und Enkel des Ananja. Da hielt er den Propheten Jeremias mit den Worten an: "Du läufst zu den Chaldäern über."

And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward [was] there, whose name [was] Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

14 Doch Jeremias sprach: "Es ist nicht wahr. Nie laufe ich zu den Chaldäern über", und achtete nicht mehr auf ihn. Jeria aber nahm den Jeremias fest und führte ihn den Fürsten vor.

Then said Jeremiah, [It is] false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

15 Die Fürsten aber wurden über Jeremias zornig; sie stäupten ihn und brachten ihn in das Gefängnis, in das Haus des Schreibers Jonatan; denn dieses hatten sie zum Kerker ausgestattet.

Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

16 So kam denn Jeremias in das Brunnenhaus, und zwar in das Gewölbe. Dort mußte Jeremias viele Tage bleiben.

When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

17 Einmal ließ ihn der König Sedekias holen. In seinem Haus befragte ihn der König heimlich: "Gibt's von dem Herrn ein Wort zu künden?" Da sagte Jeremias: "Ja!" Er sprach sodann: "Dem Babelkönig wirst du ausgeliefert werden."

Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there [any] word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

18 Dann sagte Jeremias zum König Sedekias: "Womit habe ich's an dir und deinen Dienern, an diesem Volk verschuldet, daß ihr mich ins Gefängnis werft?

Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

19 Wo sind nun die Propheten, die euch prophezeien: 'Der Babelkönig kommt nicht über euch und dieses Land?'

Where [are] now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

20 Nun hör, mein Herr und König! Laß meine Bitte vor dich kommen! Schick mich nicht abermals ins Haus des Schreibers Jonatan, damit ich dort nicht sterben muß!"

Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

21 Der König Sedekias gab darauf Befehl. So brachte man Jeremias im Wachthof in Gewahrsam und gab ihm einen Brotlaib täglich aus der Bäckergasse, bis alles Brot der Stadt zu Ende war. Seitdem saß Jeremias nun im Wachthof.

Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
