Jesaja 42
1 "Hier ist mein Knecht, dem ich als Stütze diene, der von mir Auserkorene, der meinem Herzen wohlgefällt! Ich lege meinen Geist auf ihn; den Heidenvölkern wird er Wahrheit künden.
Behold my servant, whom I uphold, My chosen, in whom my soul delighteth, I have put my spirit upon him; He shall cause law to go forth to the nations.
2 Er macht nicht Geschrei und ruft nicht laut; nicht läßt er sich in Gassen hören.
He shall not cry aloud, nor lift up his voice, Nor cause it to be heard in the street.
3 Geknicktes Rohr zerbricht er nicht; zerdrückt den Docht nicht, den verlöschenden! Hinaus trägt er in Treue Wahrheit.
The bruised reed shall he not break, And the glimmering flax shall he not quench; He shall send forth law according to truth.
4 Er wird nicht müde und nicht matt, bis er auf Erden Wahrheit durchgeführt; die Inseln warten ja auf seine Weisung." -
He shall not fail, nor become weary, Until he shall have established justice in the earth. And distant nations shall wait for his law.
5 So spricht der Gott, der Herr, des Himmels Schöpfer, der ihn ausgebreitet und der die Erde festigt und ihr Gewächs, der Lebenshauch dem Volk darauf verleiht und Atem denen, die drauf wandeln:
Thus saith God Jehovah, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth, and that which springeth forth from it, Who gave breath to the people upon it, And spirit to them that walk thereon:
6 "Ich rufe dich in Gnaden, ich, der Herr; ich fasse dich bei deiner Hand, beschütze dich und mache dich zum Ruhme für das Volk, zum Licht für Heidenvölker.
I, Jehovah, have called thee for salvation; I will hold thee by the hand; I will defend thee, and make thee a covenant to the people, A light to the nations;
7 Sollst blinde Augen öffnen, Gefang'ne aus dem Kerker führen, und aus dem Kerker, die im Finstern sitzen.
To open the blind eyes, To bring out the prisoners from the prison, And them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.
8 Mein Name ist, 'der Herr', und meine Ehre trete ich nicht einem andere ab und meinen Ruhm nicht Götzenbildern.
I am Jehovah, that is my name; And my glory will I not give to another, Nor my praise to graven images.
9 Das Frühere, seht, es ist erschienen. Und nun verkünde ich euch Neues; bevor es keimt, laß ich's euch hören." -
The former things, behold! they are come to pass, And new things do I now declare; Before they spring forth, I make them known to you.
10 Dem Herren singt ein neues Lied, sein Lob bis an der Erde Rand, ihr Fahrer auf dem Meer und seiner Fülle, ihr Inseln und die sie besiedeln!
Sing to Jehovah a new song; His praise to the ends of the earth; Ye that go down upon the sea, and all that fill it; Ye distant coasts, and ye that dwell therein!
11 Die Wüste juble auf mit ihren Triften, den Dörfern, darin Kedar wohnt! Die auf den Felsen siedeln, sollen jauchzen und von der Berge Gipfel her laut jubilieren!
Let the desert cry aloud, and the cities thereof; The villages, that Kedar inhabiteth; Let the inhabitants of the rock sing; Let them shout from the top of the mountains!
12 Dem Herren sollen sie die Ehre geben und auf den Inseln seinen Ruhm verkünden!
Let them give glory to Jehovah, And proclaim his praise in distant lands!
13 Der Herr zieht aus als Held; als Kriegsmann weckt er seinen Eifer; er schreit, er brüllt, und mannhaft geht er gegen seine Feinde vor.
Jehovah shall march forth like a hero; Like a mighty warrior shall he rouse his indignation, He shall cry aloud; he shall shout the war-cry, And show himself mighty against his enemies.
14 "Urlang geschwiegen habe ich, und mich gehüllt in Schweigen. Jetzt schreie ich wie eine Kreißende und stöhne, schnaube allzumal.
“I have long held my peace; I have been still and refrained myself; But now will I cry like a woman in travail; I will destroy and swallow up at once.
15 Ich dörre Berg und Hügel aus und lasse all ihr Grün verwelken und wandle Ströme um in dürres Land und lege Sümpfe trocken.
I will lay waste mountains and hills, And dry up all their herbs. I will make the river solid land, And dry up the pools of water.
16 Auf unbekanntem Wege führe ich die Blinden; ich leite sie auf unbekannten Steigen. Vor ihnen mache ich die Finsternis zum Licht, zur ebenen Fläche Schluchten! Das sind nun Dinge, die ich früher schon getan und die ich noch nicht aufgegeben.
Then will I lead the blind in a way which they know not, And in unknown paths will I guide them; I will make darkness light before them, And crooked paths straight; These things will I do for them, and not forsake them.”
17 Es sollen rückwärts prallen und beschämt sich fühlen, die auf geschnitzte Bilder sich verlassen, die zu gegossenen Bildern sprechen: 'Ihr seid unsere Götter.'
Then shall they be turned back, and be put to shame, Who trust in graven images; Who say to molten images, “Ye are our gods!”
18 Ihr Tauben, horchet auf! Ihr Blinden, schauet auf und seht!
Hear, O ye deaf! And look, ye blind, and see!
19 Wer war je blind, wenn nicht mein Knecht? Wer taub, wenn nicht mein Bote, den ich senden will? - Wer je so blind wie der Knecht des Herrn?
Who is blind, if not my servant? And who so deaf as my messenger, whom I send? Who so blind as the friend of God, So blind as the servant of Jehovah?
20 Viel sahst Du, doch behieltest nichts. Du hattest offene Ohren, hörtest aber nichts.
Thou seest many things, but regardest them not; Thou hast thine ears open, but hearest not!
21 Dem Herrn gefiel's, um seines Heiles willen, die Lehre groß und wundervoll zu machen.
It pleased Jehovah for his goodness' sake To give him a law, great and glorious;
22 Da wurden sie ein Volk, beraubt, geplündert. In Löchern lagen sie gefesselt alle; in Kerkerhäuser waren sie gesteckt; zum Raub geworden, ohne Retter, zur Beute, und niemand sprach: 'Gib's wieder her!'"
And yet it is a robbed and plundered people; They are all of them bound in prisons, And hid in dungeons; They have become a spoil, and none delivereth; A prey, and none saith, “Restore!”
23 Wer unter euch wohl, der dies hört, wird aufmerksam das Folgende vernehmen?
Who is there among you that will give ear to this, That will listen and attend for the time to come?
24 Wer gab zur Beute Jakob preis und Israel den Räubern? War's nicht der Herr, an dem wir uns versündigt, auf dessen Wegen sie nicht wandeln und dessen Lehre sie nicht hören wollten?
Who gave Jacob to be a spoil, And Israel to plunderers? Was it not Jehovah, against whom we sinned, In whose ways we would not walk, And whose laws we would not obey?
25 So goß er seinen Grimm darüber aus, des Krieges Härte. Rings um sie flammte es. Man achtete des aber nicht, und so verbrannt' es sie. Doch nicht zu Herzen nahm man es.
Therefore hath he poured out upon Israel the fury of his wrath, and the violence of war; It kindled a flame around about him, yet he did not regard it; It set him on fire, yet he laid it not to heart.
