Prediger 3
1 Für alles gibt es eine Zeit, und jedes Vorhaben hat seine Stunde unterm Himmel.
For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:
2 Für das Geborenwerden gibt es eine Zeit und eine Zeit fürs Sterben, fürs Pflanzen eine Zeit und eine Zeit, Gepflanztes auszureuten.
a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 Fürs Töten gibt es eine Zeit und eine Zeit fürs Heilen, fürs Niederreißen eine Zeit und eine Zeit fürs Aufbauen.
a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 Fürs Weinen gibt es eine Zeit und eine Zeit fürs Lachen, fürs Klagen eine Zeit und eine Zeit fürs Tanzen.
a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 Fürs Steinewerfen gibt es eine Zeit und eine Zeit fürs Steinesammeln, und fürs Liebkosen eine Zeit und eine Zeit für das Sich-Meiden.
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 Fürs Suchen gibt es eine Zeit und eine Zeit, verloren es zu geben, fürs Aufbewahren eine Zeit und eine Zeit, sich nicht darum zu kümmern.
a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 Fürs Reißen gibt es eine Zeit und eine Zeit fürs Nähen, fürs Schweigen eine Zeit und eine Zeit fürs Reden.
a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 Fürs Lieben gibt es eine Zeit und eine Zeit fürs Hassen, für Kriege eine Zeit und eine Zeit für Frieden.
a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
9 Was nützt es dem, der etwas tut, daß er sich müht? -
What profit has he who works in that in which he labors?
10 Ich habe nun das Ding erkannt, das Gott den Menschenkindern gab, sich damit zu befassen.
I have seen the burden which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with.
11 Das All hat er zu seiner Zeit so schön gemacht; dazu die Welt in seine Mitte hingestellt; doch nie begreift der Mensch vom Anfang bis zum Schluß das Werk, das Gott einstmals gemacht.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their hearts, yet so that man can't find out the work that God has done from the beginning even to the end.
12 So komme ich zu der Erkenntnis: Nichts Besseres gibt es unter Menschen, als sich zu freun und gütlich sich zu tun im Leben.
I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice, and to do good as long as they live.
13 Wo immer nur ein Mensch ißt oder trinkt und sich an aller seiner Mühe freut, ist's eine Gottesgabe.
Also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God.
14 Ich weiß, daß alles, was die Gottheit je verhängt, für immer Geltung hat. Man kann dazu nichts tun und auch davon nichts nehmen. Die Gottheit hat das so gemacht, daß man sich vor ihr fürchte.
I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; and God has done it, that men should fear before him.
15 Was ist, war längst, was sein wird, ist bereits gewesen. Die Gottheit sucht verwehte Spuren auf. -
That which is has been long ago, and that which is to be has been long ago: and God seeks again that which is passed away.
16 Und weiter sah ich unter dieser Sonne: An der Gerichtsstatt herrscht die Ungerechtigkeit, am Ort der Frömmigkeit der Frevel. -
Moreover I saw under the sun, in the place of justice, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there.
17 Da denke ich bei mir: Den Frommen wie den Frevler wird dereinst die Gottheit richten; denn sie hat eine Zeit für jedes Ding und Werk gesetzt. -
I said in my heart, "God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work."
18 Nach andrer Leute Weise hatte ich gedacht, Gott habe sie erwählt. Da sah ich nun, daß sie nur Tiere sind.
I said in my heart, "As for the sons of men, God tests them, so that they may see that they themselves are like animals.
19 Denn Menschenlos und Los der Tiere: Ein und dasselbe Los besitzen beide. Wie diese sterben, sterben jene; sie haben alle einen und denselben Geist. Der Mensch hat keinen Vorzug vor dem Tier. Es ist ja alles eitel.
For that which happens to the sons of men happens to animals. Even one thing happens to them. As the one dies, so the other dies. Yes, they have all one breath; and man has no advantage over the animals: for all is vanity.
20 Sie alle beide gehn an e i n e n Ort; sie alle beide sind aus Staub, und alle beide werden wieder Staub.
All go to one place. All are from the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Wer weiß vom Geist der Menschenkinder, ob er nach oben steigt, und von der Tiere Geist, ob er nach unten niedersinkt zur Erde? -
Who knows the spirit of man, whether it goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, whether it goes downward to the earth?"
22 So sah ich denn: Nichts Besseres gibt's, als daß der Mensch ob seiner Werke fröhlich sei; denn dies ist sein bestimmtes Teil. Wer gibt ihm je Gelegenheit, an dem, was nachher sein wird, sich zu laben?
Therefore I saw that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion: for who can bring him to see what will be after him?
