1 Rühme dich nicht des morgenden Tages, denn du weißt nicht, was ein Tag gebiert.
Boast not thy selfe of to morowe: for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2 Es rühme dich ein anderer und nicht dein Mund, ein Fremder und nicht deine Lippen.
Let another man prayse thee, and not thine owne mouth: a stranger, and not thine owne lips.
3 Schwer ist der Stein, und der Sand eine Last; aber der Unmut des Narren ist schwerer als beide.
A stone is heauie, and the sand weightie: but a fooles wrath is heauier then them both.
4 Grimm ist grausam, und Zorn eine überströmende Flut; wer aber kann bestehen vor der Eifersucht!
Anger is cruell, and wrath is raging: but who can stand before enuie?
5 Besser offener Tadel als verhehlte Liebe.
Open rebuke is better then secret loue.
6 Treugemeint sind die Wunden dessen, der liebt, und überreichlich des Hassers Küsse.
The wounds of a louer are faithful, and the kisses of an enemie are pleasant.
7 Eine satte Seele zertritt Honigseim; aber einer hungrigen Seele ist alles Bittere süß.
The person that is full, despiseth an hony combe: but vnto the hungry soule euery bitter thing is sweete.
8 Wie ein Vogel, der fern von seinem Neste schweift: so ein Mann, der fern von seinem Wohnorte schweift.
As a bird that wandreth from her nest, so is a man that wandreth from his owne place.
9 Öl und Räucherwerk erfreuen das Herz, und die Süßigkeit eines Freundes kommt aus dem Rate der Seele.
As oyntment and perfume reioyce the heart, so doeth the sweetenes of a mans friend by hearty counsell.
10 Verlaß nicht deinen Freund und deines Vaters Freund, und geh nicht am Tage deiner Not in deines Bruders Haus: besser ein naher Nachbar als ein ferner Bruder.
Thine owne friend and thy fathers friend forsake thou not: neither enter into thy brothers house in the day of thy calamitie: for better is a neighbour that is neere, then a brother farre off.
11 Sei weise, mein Sohn, und erfreue mein Herz, damit ich Antwort geben könne meinem Schmäher.
My sonne, be wise, and reioyce mine heart, that I may answere him that reprocheth me.
12 Der Kluge sieht das Unglück und verbirgt sich; die Einfältigen gehen weiter und leiden Strafe.
A prudent man seeth the plague, and hideth himselfe: but the foolish goe on still, and are punished.
13 Nimm ihm das Kleid, denn er ist für einen anderen Bürge geworden; und der Fremden halber pfände ihn.
Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and a pledge of him for the stranger.
14 Wer frühmorgens aufsteht und seinem Nächsten mit lauter Stimme Glück wünscht, als Verwünschung wird es ihm angerechnet.
He that prayseth his friend with a loude voyce, rising earely in the morning, it shall be counted to him as a curse.
15 Eine beständige Traufe am Tage des strömenden Regens und ein zänkisches Weib gleichen sich.
A continual dropping in the day of raine, and a contentious woman are alike.
16 Wer dieses zurückhält, hält den Wind zurück und seine Rechte greift in Öl.
He that hideth her, hideth the winde, and she is as ye oyle in his right hand, that vttereth it selfe.
17 Eisen wird scharf durch Eisen, und ein Mann schärft das Angesicht des anderen.
Yron sharpeneth yron, so doeth man sharpen the face of his friend.
18 Wer des Feigenbaumes wartet, wird seine Frucht essen; und wer über seinen Herrn wacht, wird geehrt werden.
He that keepeth the fig tree, shall eate the fruite thereof: so he that waiteth vpon his master, shall come to honour.
19 Wie im Wasser das Angesicht dem Angesicht entspricht, so das Herz des Menschen dem Menschen.
As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
The graue and destruction can neuer be full, so the eyes of man can neuer be satisfied. (Sheol h7585)
21 Der Schmelztiegel für das Silber, und der Ofen für das Gold; und ein Mann nach Maßgabe seines Lobes.
As is the fining pot for siluer and the fornace for golde, so is euery man according to his dignitie.
22 Wenn du den Narren mit der Keule im Mörser zerstießest, mitten unter der Grütze, so würde seine Narrheit doch nicht von ihm weichen.
Though thou shouldest bray a foole in a morter among wheate brayed with a pestell, yet will not his foolishnes depart from him.
23 Bekümmere dich wohl um das Aussehen deines Kleinviehes, richte deine Aufmerksamkeit auf die Herden.
Be diligent to know ye state of thy flocke, and take heede to the heardes.
24 Denn Wohlstand ist nicht ewig; und währt eine Krone von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht?
For riches remaine not alway, nor the crowne from generation to generation.
25 Ist geschwunden das Heu, und erscheint das junge Gras, und sind eingesammelt die Kräuter der Berge,
The hey discouereth it selfe, and the grasse appeareth, and the herbes of the mountaines are gathered.
26 so dienen Schafe zu deiner Kleidung, und der Kaufpreis für ein Feld sind Böcke;
The lambes are for thy clothing, and the goates are the price of the fielde.
27 und genug Ziegenmilch ist da zu deiner Nahrung, zur Nahrung deines Hauses, und Lebensunterhalt für deine Mägde.
And let the milke of the goates be sufficient for thy foode, for the foode of thy familie, and for the sustenance of thy maydes.
