Genèse 20

1 Parti de là pour la terre australe, Abraham habita entre Cadès et Sur, et demeura comme étranger à Gérara.

And Abraham departed thence towarde the southcontre and dwelled betwene Cades and Sur ad sogeorned in Gerar.

2 Or il dit de Sara sa femme: C’est ma sœur. Abimélech, roi de Gérara, envoya donc vers lui et la fit enlever.

And Abraham sayde of Sara his wyfe that she was his sister. Than Abimelech kynge of Gerar sent and fett Sara awaye.

3 Mais Dieu vint vers Abimélech dans un songe pendant la nuit, et lui dit: Voilà que tu mourras, à cause de la femme que tu as enlevée; car elle a un mari.

And God came to Abimelech by nyghte in a dreame and sayde to him: Se thou art but a deed man for the womas sake which thou hast taken awaye for she is a mans wyfe.

4 Or Abimélech ne l’avait pas touchée, et il dit: Seigneur, perdrez-vous une nation qui est dans l’ignorance, et innocente?

But Abimelech had not yet come nye her and therfore sayde: lorde wilt thou sley rightewes people?

5 Lui-même ne m’a-t-il pas dit: C’est ma sœur? Et elle-même n’a-t-elle pas dit: C’est mon frère? C’est dans la simplicité de mon cœur et dans la pureté de mes mains que je l’ai fait.

sayde not he vnto me that she was hys sister? yee and sayde not she herself that he was hir brother? wyth a pure herte and innocent handes haue I done this.

6 Et Dieu lui dit: Et moi aussi je sais que c’est avec un cœur simple que tu l’as fait; et c’est pour cela que je t’ai gardé, afin que tu ne péchasses pas contre moi, et que je n’ai pas permis que tu la touchasses.

And God sayde vnto him in a dreame. I wot it well that thou dydest it in the purenesse of thi herte. And therfore I kepte ye that thou shuldest not synne agenst me nether suffred I the to come nygh her.

7 Maintenant donc rends à son mari cette femme; parce que c’est un prophète, et il priera pour toi, et tu vivras; mais si tu ne la rends pas, sache que tu mourras de mort, toi et tout ce qui est à toi.

Now therfore delyuer the ma his wyfe ageyne for he is a prophete. And let him praye for the that thou mayst lyue. But and yf thou delyuer her not agayne be sure that thou shalt dye the deth with all that thou hast.

8 Aussitôt, se levant de nuit, Abimélech appela tous ses serviteurs, et fit entendre toutes ces paroles à leurs oreilles; et tous ces hommes furent saisis d une grande crainte.

Than Abimelech rose vp be tymes in the mornynge and called all his servauntes and tolde all these thinges in their eares and the men were sore a frayde.

9 Puis Abimélech appela aussi Abraham et lui dit: Que nous as-tu fait? et en quoi t’avons-nous offensé, pour que tu aies attiré sur moi et sur mon royaume un si grand péché? ce que tu ne devais pas faire, tu nous l’as fait.

And Abimelech called Abraham and sayde vnto him: What hast thou done vnto vs and what haue I offended the that thou shuldest brynge on me and on my kyngdome so greate a synne? thou hast done dedes vnto me that ought not to be done.

10 Et de nouveau se plaignant, il dit: Qu’as-tu vu, pour agir ainsi?

And Abimelech sayde morouer vnto Abraham: What sawest thou that moved the to do this thinge?

11 Abraham répondit: J’ai pensé en moi-même, disant: Peut-être n’y a-t-il point la crainte de Dieu en ce lieu-ci, et ils me feront mourir à cause de ma femme.

And Abraham Answered. I thought that peradveture the feare of God was not in this place and that they shulde sley me for my wyfes sake:

12 D’ailleurs elle est vraiment aussi ma sœur, étant fille de mon père, quoiqu’elle ne soit pas fille de ma mère; et je l’ai prise pour femme.

yet in very dede she is my sister the doughter of my father but not of my mother: and became my wyfe.

13 Or quand Dieu me fit sortir de la maison de mon père, je dis à Sara: Tu me feras cette grâce: dans tous les lieux où nous irons, tu diras que je suis ton frère.

And after God caused me to wandre out of my fathers house I sayde vnto her: This kyndnesse shalt thou shewe vnto me in all places where we come that thou saye of me how that I am thy brother.

14 Abimélech prit donc des brebis, des bœufs, des serviteurs et des servantes, et il les donna à Abraham; et il lui rendit Sara sa femme.

Than toke Abimelech shepe and oxen menservauntes and wemenseruauntes and gaue them vnto Abraham and delyvered him Sara his wyfe agayne.

15 Et il dit: La terre est devant vous; partout où il te plaira, habites-y.

And Abimelech sayde: beholde the lande lyeth be fore the dwell where it pleaseth ye best.

16 Mais à Sara il dit: Voilà que j’ai donné à ton frère mille pièces d’argent, pour que tu aies un voile sur les yeux devant tous ceux qui seront avec toi, et en quelque lieu que tu ailles: et souviens-toi que tu as été enlevée.

And vnto Sara he sayde: Se I haue geuen thy brother a thousande peeces of syluer beholde he shall be a couerynge to thyne eyes vnto all that ar with the and vnto all men and an excuse.

17 Mais Abraham ayant prié, Dieu guérit Abimélech, sa femme et ses servantes, et elles enfantèrent;

And so Abraham prayde vnto God and God healed Abimeleh and his wyfe and hys maydens so that they bare.

18 Car le Seigneur avait frappé de stérilité toute la maison d’Abimélech, à cause de Sara femme d’Abraham.

For the LORde had closed to all the matryces of the house of Abimelech because of Sara Abrahams wyfe.
