Exode 24

1 Dieu dit aussi à Moïse: Monte vers le Seigneur, toi et Aaron, Nadab et Abiu, et les soixante dix anciens d’Israël, et vous adorerez de loin.

He also said to Moses: “Ascend to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy elders out of Israel, and adore from a distance.

2 Et Moïse seul montera vers le Seigneur, et eux ne s’approcheront pas, et le peuple ne montera pas avec lui.

And only Moses will ascend to the Lord, and these shall not approach. Neither shall the people ascend with him.”

3 Moïse vint donc et raconta au peuple toutes les paroles du Seigneur et ses ordonnances, et tout le peuple répondit d’une seule voix: Nous accomplirons toutes les paroles que le Seigneur a dites.

Therefore, Moses went and explained to the people all the words of the Lord, as well as the judgments. And all the people responded with one voice: “We will do all the words of the Lord, which he has spoken.”

4 Or Moïse écrivit tous les discours du Seigneur, et le matin, se levant, il bâtit un autel au pied de la montagne et douze monuments selon les douze tribus d’Israël.

Then Moses wrote all the words of the Lord. And rising up in the morning, he built an altar at the base of the mountain, with twelve titles according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

5 Et il envoya les jeunes gens d’entre les enfants d’Israël, et ils offrirent des holocaustes, et ils immolèrent des victimes pacifiques au Seigneur, des veaux.

And he sent youths from the sons of Israel, and they offered holocausts, and they immolated calves as peace-offerings to the Lord.

6 C’est pourquoi Moïse prit la moitié du sang et la mit dans des coupes; mais la partie qui restait, il la répandit sur l’autel.

And so Moses took one half part of the blood, and he put it into bowls. Then the remaining part he poured over the altar.

7 Prenant ensuite le livre de l’alliance, il lut, le peuple écoutant, lequel dit: Tout ce que le Seigneur a dit, nous le ferons, et nous serons obéissants.

And taking up the book of the covenant, he read it in the hearing of the people, who said: “All that the Lord has spoken, we will do, and we will be obedient.”

8 Or Moïse ayant pris le sang, le répandit sur le peuple, et dit: Voici le sang de l’alliance que le Seigneur a faite avec vous selon toutes ces paroles.

In truth, taking up the blood, he sprinkled it on the people, and he said, “This is the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has formed with you concerning all these words.”

9 Alors montèrent, Moïse et Aaron, Nadab et Abiu, et les soixante-dix anciens d’israël;

And Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel ascended.

10 Et ils virent le Dieu d’Israël, et sous ses pieds comme un ouvrage de pierre de saphir, et comme le ciel, lorsqu’il est serein.

And they saw the God of Israel. And under his feet was something like a work of sapphire stone, or like the sky, when it is serene.

11 Et Dieu ne lança pas sa main sur ceux des enfants d’Israël qui s’étaient retirés au loin; et ils virent Dieu, puis ils mangèrent et ils burent.

Neither did he lay his hand upon those of the sons of Israel who were at a distance. And they saw God, and they ate and drank.

12 Or le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Monte vers moi sur la montagne, et sois là: je te donnerai les tables de pierre, et la loi et les commandements que j’ai écrits, afin que tu les enseignes.

Then the Lord said to Moses: “Ascend to me on the mountain, and be there. And I will give to you tablets of stone, and the law and the commandments that I have written. So may you teach them.”

13 Moïse et Josué son serviteur se levèrent; et Moïse montant sur la montagne de Dieu,

Moses rose up, with Joshua his minister. And Moses, ascending on the mountain of God,

14 Dit aux anciens; Attendez ici jusqu’à ce que nous retournions à vous. Vous avez Aaron et Hur avec vous; s’il naît quelque question, vous leur en ferez le rapport.

said to the elders: “Wait here, until we return to you. You have Aaron and Hur with you. If any question arises, you shall refer it to them.”

15 Et lorsque Moïse fut monté, la nuée couvrit la montagne.

And when Moses had ascended, a cloud covered the mountain.

16 Et la gloire du Seigneur reposa sur Sinaï, le couvrant de la nuée pendant six jours; mais au septième jour il appela Moïse du milieu de l’obscurité.

And the glory of the Lord dwelt upon Sinai, covering it with a cloud for six days. And on the seventh day, he called to him from the middle of the mist.

17 Or l’aspect de la gloire du Seigneur était comme un feu ardent sur le sommet de la montagne, en la présence des enfants d’Israël.

Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a burning fire over the summit of the mountain in the sight of the sons of Israel.

18 Et Moïse étant entré au milieu de la nuée, monta sur la montagne, et il fut là quarante jours et quarante nuits.

And Moses, entering into the midst of the cloud, ascended the mountain. And he was there for forty days and forty nights.
