Deutéronome 11
1 C’est pourquoi aime le Seigneur ton Dieu, observe ses préceptes et ses cérémonies, ses ordonnances et ses commandements en tout temps.
Therefore you shall love Yahweh your God, and keep his instructions, his statutes, his ordinances, and his commandments, always.
2 Reconnaissez aujourd’hui ce que vos fils ignorent, eux qui n’ont pas vu les châtiments du Seigneur votre Dieu, ses merveilles, sa main puissante et son bras étendu;
Know this day—for I don’t speak with your children who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm,
3 Les signes et les œuvres qu’il a faits au milieu de l’Egypte au roi Pharaon et à toute sa terre;
his signs, and his works, which he did in the middle of Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and to all his land;
4 À toute l’armée des Egyptiens, à ses chevaux et à ses chariots: de quelle manière les eaux de la mer Rouge les ont couverts, lorsqu’ils vous poursuivaient, et comment le Seigneur les a détruits jusqu’au présent jour;
and what he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red Sea to overflow them as they pursued you, and how Yahweh has destroyed them to this day;
5 Ce qu’il vous a fait à vous-mêmes dans le désert, jusqu’à ce que vous soyez venus en ce lieu;
and what he did to you in the wilderness until you came to this place;
6 Et à Dathan et à Abiron, fils d’Eliab, qui fut fils de Ruben, que la terre, ayant ouvert sa bouche, engloutit avec leurs maisons, leurs tentes et tout leur bien qu’ils avaient au milieu d’Israël.
and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben—how the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households, their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the middle of all Israel;
7 Vos yeux ont vu toutes les œuvres grandes que le Seigneur a faites,
but your eyes have seen all of Yahweh’s great work which he did.
8 Afin que vous gardiez tous ses commandements, que moi je vous prescris aujourd’hui, que vous puissiez entrer et posséder la terre vers laquelle vous marchez,
Therefore you shall keep the entire commandment which I command you today, that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land that you go over to possess;
9 Et que vous viviez longtemps en cette terre, que le Seigneur a promise avec serment à vos pères, et à leur postérité, et où coulent du lait et du miel
and that you may prolong your days in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give to them and to their offspring, a land flowing with milk and honey.
10 Car la terre dans laquelle tu entreras pour la posséder, n’est pas comme la terre d’Egypte dont tu es sorti, où, la semence jetée, on conduit comme dans les jardins, des eaux qui servent à arroser;
For the land, where you go in to possess isn’t like the land of Egypt that you came out of, where you sowed your seed and watered it with your foot, as a garden of herbs;
11 Mais c’est une terre de montagnes et de plaines, qui attend du ciel de la pluie;
but the land that you go over to possess is a land of hills and valleys which drinks water from the rain of the sky,
12 Que le Seigneur ton Dieu regarde toujours; et ses yeux sont sur elle depuis le commencement de l’année jusqu’à sa fin.
a land which Yahweh your God cares for. Yahweh your God’s eyes are always on it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.
13 Si donc vous obéissez à mes commandements, que moi, je vous prescris aujourd’hui, d’aimer le Seigneur votre Dieu, et de le servir en tout votre cœur et en toute votre âme,
It shall happen, if you shall listen diligently to my commandments which I command you today, to love Yahweh your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
14 Il donnera à votre terre les premières et les dernières pluies, afin que vous recueilliez le blé, le vin et l’huile,
that I will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil.
15 Et du foin des champs pour nourrir vos bestiaux, et pour que vous-mêmes, vous mangiez et soyez rassasiés.
I will give grass in your fields for your livestock, and you shall eat and be full.
16 Prenez garde que votre cœur ne soit séduit, que vous ne vous éloigniez du Seigneur, que vous ne serviez des dieux étrangers, et que vous ne les adoriez:
Be careful, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn away to serve other gods and worship them;
17 Et, qu’irrité, le Seigneur ne ferme le ciel, que les pluies ne descendent pas, que la terre ne donne pas sa végétation, que vous ne soyez exterminés en peu de temps de la terre excellente que le Seigneur va vous donner.
and Yahweh’s anger be kindled against you, and he shut up the sky so that there is no rain, and the land doesn’t yield its fruit; and you perish quickly from off the good land which Yahweh gives you.
18 Déposez ces paroles que je dis dans vos cœurs et dans vos esprits, et suspendez-les comme un signe à vos mains, et placez-les entre vos yeux,
Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul. You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.
19 Apprenez-les à vos enfants, pour qu’ils les méditent; lorsque tu seras assis en ta maison, lorsque tu marcheras dans la voie, que tu te coucheras et que tu te lèveras,
You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
20 Tu les écriras sur les poteaux et sur les portes de ta maison;
You shall write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates;
21 Afin que se multiplient tes jours et ceux de tes enfants dans la terre que le Seigneur a juré à tes pères de leur donner, tant que le ciel sera suspendu au-dessus de la terre.
that your days and your children’s days may be multiplied in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.
22 Car si vous gardez et si vous pratiquez les commandements que moi, je vous prescris, d’aimer le Seigneur votre Dieu, et de marcher dans toutes ses voies, vous attachant à lui,
For if you shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you—to do them, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cling to him—
23 Le Seigneur détruira toutes ces nations devant votre face et vous les posséderez, ces nations qui sont plus grandes et plus fortes que vous.
then Yahweh will drive out all these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.
24 Tout lieu que foulera votre pied sera à vous. Depuis le désert et depuis le Liban, depuis le grand fleuve d’Euphrate jusqu’à la mer occidentale, ce seront vos limites.
Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even to the western sea shall be your border.
25 Nul ne tiendra contre vous: le Seigneur votre Dieu jettera la terreur et l’effroi sur toute la terre que vous devez fouler, comme il vous a dit.
No man will be able to stand before you. Yahweh your God will lay the fear of you and the dread of you on all the land that you tread on, as he has spoken to you.
26 Voici que je mets aujourd’hui en votre présence la bénédiction et la malédiction:
Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse:
27 La bénédiction, si vous obéissez aux commandements du Seigneur votre Dieu, que moi, je vous prescris aujourd’hui:
the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I command you today;
28 La malédiction, si vous n’obéissez pas aux commandements du Seigneur votre Dieu, mais si vous vous écartez de la voie que moi, je vous montre maintenant, et que vous marchiez après des dieux étrangers que vous ne connaissez pas.
and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, but turn away out of the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known.
29 Mais lorsque le Seigneur ton Dieu t’aura introduit dans la terre vers laquelle tu chemines pour l’habiter, tu mettras la bénédiction sur la montagne de Garizim, et la malédiction sur la montagne d’Hébal,
It shall happen, when Yahweh your God brings you into the land that you go to possess, that you shall set the blessing on Mount Gerizim, and the curse on Mount Ebal.
30 Qui sont au-delà du Jourdain, derrière la voie qui tourne à l’occident, dans la terre du Chananéen, qui habite dans les plaines contre Galgala, qui est près d’une vallée qui s’étend et s’avance au loin.
Aren’t they beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites who dwell in the Arabah near Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?
31 Car vous, vous passerez le Jourdain, pour posséder la terre que le Seigneur votre Dieu doit vous donner, afin que vous l’ayez et que vous la possédiez.
For you are to pass over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which Yahweh your God gives you, and you shall possess it and dwell in it.
32 Voyez donc à ce que vous accomplissiez les cérémonies et les ordonnances que moi, je mettrai en votre présence aujourd’hui.
You shall observe to do all the statutes and the ordinances which I set before you today.
