Jérémie 19

1 Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Va, et achète une bouteille d'un potier, et [prends avec toi] des Anciens du peuple, et des Anciens des Sacrificateurs;

Thus said the Lord, Go and buy a bottle from a maker of earthenware, and [take] some of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;

2 et sors, et va dans la vallée des fils de Hinnom qui est en face de la porte orientale, et prononce là les paroles que je te dirai,

And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the gate Charsith, and proclaim there the words that I will speak unto thee.

3 et dis: Écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, rois de Juda, et habitants de Jérusalem! Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Voici, j'amène une calamité sur ce lieu; (de quiconque en ouïra parler, les oreilles résonneront; )

And say, Hear ye the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil over this place, so that the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

4 parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné, et ont aliéné ce lieu, et y ont encensé d'autres dieux qu'ils ne connaissaient ni eux, ni leurs pères, ni les rois de Juda, et qu'ils ont rempli ce lieu du sang des innocents,

For the reason that they have forsaken me, and have defiled this place, and have burnt incense in it unto other gods, which they had not known, either they or their fathers, or the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

5 et élevé des tertres à Baal, pour brûler leurs enfants au feu en holocaustes à Baal; ce que je n'avais point commandé, et point dit, et qui n'était point venu dans ma pensée.

And they have built the high-places of Ba'al, to burn their sons with fire as burnt-offerings unto Ba'al, which I had not commanded, nor spoken, and which had not come into my mind:

6 Aussi, voici, des jours viennent, dit l'Éternel, où ce lieu ne s'appellera plus Topheth, ni vallée des fils de Hinnom, mais vallée du carnage,

Therefore, behold, days are coming, saith the Lord, that this place shall no more be called The Thopheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but, The valley of slaughter.

7 et je viderai le conseil de Juda et de Jérusalem en ce lieu, et je les ferai tomber par l'épée devant leurs ennemis, et par la main de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie, et je ferai de leurs cadavres la proie des oiseaux du ciel et des bêtes de la terre.

And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those that seek their life: and I will give their carcasses as food unto the fowls of the heaven, and unto the beasts of the earth.

8 Et je rendrai cette ville une désolation et une dérision; quiconque passera près d'elle frissonnera, et se rira de toutes ses plaies:

And I will render this city desolate, and an [object of] derision: every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.

9 et je leur ferai manger la chair de leurs fils, et la chair de leurs filles, et ils se mangeront l'un l'autre, dans la détresse et l'angoisse dont les angoisseront leurs ennemis et ceux qui en veulent à leur vie.

And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his associate, in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and those that seek their life, shall distress them.

10 Et brise la bouteille sous les yeux des hommes venus avec toi,

Then shalt thou break the bottle before the eyes of the men that are going with thee.

11 et dis-leur: Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Ainsi briserai-je ce peuple et cette ville, comme on brise la poterie, laquelle ne peut plus être remise en état. Et l'on enterrera à Topheth, faute d'autre place pour enterrer.

And thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, In this manner will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be restored again; and in Thopheth shall they bury, for want of room to bury.

12 Ainsi ferai-je à ce lieu, dit l'Éternel, et à ses habitants, rendant cette ville semblable à Topheth.

Thus will I do unto this place, saith the Lord, and to its inhabitants, and to make this city as Thopheth:

13 Et les maisons de Jérusalem, et les maisons des rois de Juda, comme le lieu de Topheth, seront impures, toutes les maisons sur les toits desquelles on offrait de l'encens à toute l'armée des Cieux, et des libations aux autres dieux.

And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are unclean, shall become as the place of the Thopheth, with all the houses upon the roofs of which they have burnt incense to all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink-offerings to other gods.

14 Et Jérémie revint de Topheth où l'Éternel l'avait envoyé pour prophétiser, et il se plaça dans le parvis de la maison de l'Éternel, et dit à tout le peuple:

Then came Jeremiah from the Thopheth, whither the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he placed himself in the court of the house of the Lord; and said to all the people,

15 Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Voici, j'amène sur cette ville, et sur toutes ses villes, tous les maux dont je l'ai menacée; car ils roidissent leur col pour ne point écouter mes paroles.

Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have spoken against it; because they have hardened their neck, so as not to hear my words.
