1 Cependant Athalie, mère d'Achazia, voyant son fils mort, se leva et fit périr toute la race royale.
And Athaliah [is] mother of Ahaziah, and she has seen that her son [is] dead, and she rises, and destroys all the seed of the kingdom;
2 Alors Joséba, fille du roi Joram, sœur d'Achazia, enleva Joas, fils d'Achazia, et le déroba du milieu des fils du roi qui recevaient la mort, et le recela lui et sa nourrice dans la salle des lits. Et elles le cachèrent aux regards d'Athalie en sorte qu'il ne fut pas mis à mort;
and Jehosheba daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, takes Joash son of Ahaziah, and steals him out of the midst of the sons of the king who are put to death, him and his nurse, in the inner part of the bed-chambers, and they hide him from the presence of Athaliah, and he has not been put to death,
3 et il fut caché six ans avec elle dans le temple de l'Éternel. Or Athalie régissait le pays.
and he is with her, in the house of YHWH, hiding himself, six years, and Athaliah is reigning over the land.
4 Et la septième année, Jehojada envoya chercher les centurions des satellites et des coureurs, et il les fit venir chez lui dans le temple de l'Éternel et conclut avec eux un accord, et les assermenta dans le temple de l'Éternel et leur montra le fils du roi.
And in the seventh year Jehoiada has sent and takes the heads of the hundreds, of the executioners and of the runners, and brings them to him, into the house of YHWH, and makes a covenant with them, and causes them to swear in the house of YHWH, and shows them the son of the king,
5 Et il leur donna ses ordres en ces termes: Voici ce que vous avez à faire: Un tiers d'entre vous qui entrez en service le jour du sabbat, gardera le palais royal,
and commands them, saying, “This [is] the thing that you do; the third of you [are] going in on the Sabbath, and keepers of the charge of the house of the king,
6 et un tiers occupera la porte Sur (latérale), et un tiers la porte derrière les coureurs, et vous garderez ainsi le palais, en arrêt.
and the third [is] at the Gate of Sur, and the third at the gate behind the runners, and you have kept the charge of the house pulled down;
7 Et les deux sections que vous formez, vous tous qui êtes relevés le jour du sabbat [de la garde du palais], monteront la garde dans le temple de l'Éternel auprès du roi.
and two parts of you, all going out on the Sabbath—they have kept the charge of the house of YHWH about the king,
8 Et entourez le roi de toutes parts, ayant chacun ses armes à la main; et mort à qui s'introduira entre les rangs! et accompagnez le roi à sa sortie et à son entrée.
and you have surrounded the king all around, each with his weapons in his hand, and he who is coming to the ranges is put to death; and be with the king in his going out and in his coming in.”
9 Et les centurions exécutèrent tous les ordres du Prêtre Jehojada, et ils prirent chacun son monde, savoir et ceux qui montaient et ceux qui descendaient la garde le jour du sabbat, et joignirent le Prêtre Jehojada.
And the heads of the hundreds do according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded, and take—each [one]—his men going in on the Sabbath, with those going out on the Sabbath, and come to Jehoiada the priest,
10 Et le Prêtre remit aux centurions les piques et les boucliers du roi David, qui étaient dans le temple de l'Éternel.
and the priest gives to the heads of the hundreds the spears and the shields that King David had, that [are] in the house of YHWH.
11 Et les coureurs, chacun ses armes à la main, se portèrent depuis le côté droit au côté gauche du temple, et à l'autel vers le Temple à l'entour du roi.
And the runners stand, each with his weapons in his hand, from the right shoulder of the house to the left shoulder of the house, by the altar and by the house, by the king all around;
12 Et il produisit le fils du roi et il le couvrit de la couronne et lui remit la Loi; et ils le constituèrent roi et l'oignirent et frappèrent des mains et crièrent: Vive le Roi!
and he brings out the son of the king, and puts the crown on him, and the Testimony, and they make him king, and anoint him, and strike the hand, and say, “Let the king live.”
13 Alors Athalie entendit les voix des coureurs et du peuple et elle se porta vers le peuple dans le temple de l'Éternel.
And Athaliah hears the voice of the runners [and] of the people, and she comes to the people [in] the house of YHWH,
14 Et elle regarda, et voilà que le roi se tenait sur le palier selon l'usage et aux côtés du roi les centurions et les trompettes et tout le peuple du pays joyeux et sonnant de la trompette.
and looks, and behold, the king is standing by the pillar, according to the ordinance, and the heads and the trumpets [are] by the king, and all the people of the land are rejoicing and blowing with trumpets, and Athaliah tears her garments, and calls, “Conspiracy! Conspiracy!”
15 Alors Athalie déchira ses vêtements et s'écria: Complot! Complot! Mais le Prêtre Jehojada fit aux centurions, généraux de l'armée, ce commandement: Tirez-la jusqu'entre les rangs! et tuez avec l'épée quiconque la suivra! Car le Prêtre disait: Qu'elle ne reçoive pas la mort dans le temple de l'Éternel.
And Jehoiada the priest commands the heads of the hundreds, inspectors of the force, and says to them, “Bring her out to the outside of the ranges, and him who is going after her, put to death by the sword”: for the priest had said, “Do not let her be put to death in the house of YHWH.”
16 Et pour lui faire place ils formèrent deux lignes, et elle arriva par la voie du passage des chevaux au palais royal, où elle reçut la mort.
And they make sides for her, and she enters the way of the entering in of the horses to the house of the king, and is put to death there.
17 Et Jehojada solennisa l'alliance entre l'Éternel et le roi et le peuple, stipulant qu'il serait le peuple de l'Éternel, et entre le roi et le peuple.
And Jehoiada makes the covenant between YHWH and the king and the people, to be for a people to YHWH, and between the king and the people.
18 Alors toute la population du pays envahit le temple de Baal, et ils le démolirent et brisèrent ses autels et ses simulacres, à fond, et égorgèrent Mathan, prêtre de Baal, devant les autels. Et le Prêtre préposa des préfectures sur le temple de l'Éternel.
And all the people of the land go to the house of Ba‘al, and break it down; they have thoroughly broken its altars and its images, and they have slain Mattan priest of Ba‘al before the altars; and the priest sets inspectors over the house of YHWH,
19 Et il prit les centurions et les satellites et les coureurs et tout le peuple du pays, et ils firent descendre le roi du temple de l'Éternel, et passant par la porte des coureurs ils arrivèrent au palais royal, et le roi prit place sur le trône des rois.
and takes the heads of the hundreds, and the executioners, and the runners, and all the people of the land, and they bring down the king from the house of YHWH, and come by the way of the gate of the runners, to the house of the king, and he sits on the throne of the kings.
20 Et tout le peuple du pays était dans l'allégresse, et la ville était tranquille: quant à Athalie, ils lui avaient donné la mort avec l'épée au palais royal.
And all the people of the land rejoice, and the city [is] quiet, and they have put Athaliah to death by the sword in the house of the king;
21 Joas avait sept ans à son avènement.
Jehoash is a son of seven years in his reigning.
