Josué 23
1 Depuis longtemps l’Éternel avait donné du repos à Israël, en le délivrant de tous les ennemis qui l’entouraient. Josué était vieux, avancé en âge.
And it comes to pass, many days after that YHWH has given rest to Israel from all their surrounding enemies, that Joshua is old, entering into days,
2 Alors Josué convoqua tout Israël, ses anciens, ses chefs, ses juges et ses officiers. Il leur dit: Je suis vieux, je suis avancé en âge.
and Joshua calls for all Israel, for his elderly, and for his heads, and for his judges, and for his authorities, and says to them, “I have become old; I have entered into days;
3 Vous avez vu tout ce que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, a fait à toutes ces nations devant vous; car c’est l’Éternel, votre Dieu, qui a combattu pour vous.
and you have seen all that your God YHWH has done to all these nations because of you, for your God YHWH [is] He who is fighting for you;
4 Voyez, je vous ai donné en héritage par le sort, selon vos tribus, ces nations qui sont restées, à partir du Jourdain, et toutes les nations que j’ai exterminées, jusqu’à la grande mer vers le soleil couchant.
see, I have caused these nations who are left to fall to you for an inheritance to your tribes, from the Jordan (and all the nations which I cut off), and the Great Sea [at] the [setting] sun.
5 L’Éternel, votre Dieu, les repoussera devant vous et les chassera devant vous; et vous posséderez leur pays, comme l’Éternel, votre Dieu, vous l’a dit.
As for your God YHWH, He thrusts them from your presence, and has dispossessed them from before you, and you have possessed their land, as your God YHWH has spoken to you,
6 Appliquez-vous avec force à observer et à mettre en pratique tout ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la loi de Moïse, sans vous en détourner ni à droite ni à gauche.
and you have been very strong to keep and to do the whole that is written in the Scroll of the Law of Moses, so as not to turn aside from it right or left,
7 Ne vous mêlez point avec ces nations qui sont restées parmi vous; ne prononcez point le nom de leurs dieux, et ne l’employez point en jurant; ne les servez point, et ne vous prosternez point devant eux.
so as not to go in among these nations, these who are left with you; and you do not make mention of the name of their gods, nor do you swear, nor do you serve them, nor do you bow yourselves to them;
8 Mais attachez-vous à l’Éternel, votre Dieu, comme vous l’avez fait jusqu’à ce jour.
but you cleave to your God YHWH, as you have done until this day.
9 L’Éternel a chassé devant vous des nations grandes et puissantes; et personne, jusqu’à ce jour, n’a pu vous résister.
And YHWH is dispossessing great and mighty nations from before you; as for you, none has stood in your presence until this day;
10 Un seul d’entre vous en poursuivait mille; car l’Éternel, votre Dieu, combattait pour vous, comme il vous l’a dit.
one man of you pursues a thousand, for your God YHWH [is] He who is fighting for you, as He has spoken to you;
11 Veillez donc attentivement sur vos âmes, afin d’aimer l’Éternel, votre Dieu.
and you have been very watchful for yourselves to love your God YHWH.
12 Si vous vous détournez et que vous vous attachiez au reste de ces nations qui sont demeurées parmi vous, si vous vous unissez avec elles par des mariages, et si vous formez ensemble des relations,
But—if you turn back at all and have cleaved to the remnant of these nations, these who are left with you, and intermarried with them, and gone in to them, and they to you,
13 soyez certains que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, ne continuera pas à chasser ces nations devant vous; mais elles seront pour vous un filet et un piège, un fouet dans vos côtés et des épines dans vos yeux, jusqu’à ce que vous ayez péri de dessus ce bon pays que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, vous a donné.
certainly know that your God YHWH is not continuing to dispossess these nations from before you, and they have been to you for a trap, and for a snare, and for a scourge, in your sides, and for thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good ground which your God YHWH has given to you.
14 Voici, je m’en vais maintenant par le chemin de toute la terre. Reconnaissez de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme qu’aucune de toutes les bonnes paroles prononcées sur vous par l’Éternel, votre Dieu, n’est restée sans effet; toutes se sont accomplies pour vous, aucune n’est restée sans effet.
And behold, I am going, today, in the way of all the earth, and you have known—with all your heart, and with all your soul—that there has not fallen one thing of all the good things which your God YHWH has spoken concerning you; the whole have come to you; there has not failed of it one thing.
15 Et comme toutes les bonnes paroles que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, vous avait dites se sont accomplies pour vous, de même l’Éternel accomplira sur vous toutes les paroles mauvaises, jusqu’à ce qu’il vous ait détruits de dessus ce bon pays que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, vous a donné.
And it has been, as there has come on you all the good thing which your God YHWH has spoken to you, so YHWH brings on you the whole of the evil thing, until His destroying you from off this good ground which your God YHWH has given to you;
16 Si vous transgressez l’alliance que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, vous a prescrite, et si vous allez servir d’autres dieux et vous prosterner devant eux, la colère de l’Éternel s’enflammera contre vous, et vous périrez promptement dans le bon pays qu’il vous a donné.
in your transgressing the covenant of your God YHWH which He commanded you, and you have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them, then the anger of YHWH has burned against you, and you have perished quickly from off the good land which He has given to you.”
