Job 24
1 Pourquoi les moments ont-ils été ignorés du maître,
“Why aren’t times laid up by the Almighty? Why don’t those who know him see his days?
2 Quand des impies ont envahi ses champs et ravi ses troupeaux avec ses bergers?
There are people who remove the landmarks. They violently take away flocks, and feed them.
3 Ils ont enlevé la bête de somme de l'orphelin; ils ont mis en gage le bœuf de la veuve.
They drive away the donkey of the fatherless, and they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.
4 Ils ont fait dévier le faible de la voie de la justice, et l'homme doux s'est caché devant eux.
They turn the needy out of the way. The poor of the earth all hide themselves.
5 Ils se sont répandus dans la campagne comme des ânes; ils se sont précipités sur moi en bon ordre; il leur a été agréable de prendre du pain pour leurs enfants.
Behold, as wild donkeys in the desert, they go out to their work, seeking diligently for food. The wilderness yields them bread for their children.
6 Ils ont moissonné avant la saison une terre qui ne leur appartenait pas. Des pauvres ont cultivé les vignes des impies sans recevoir aliments ni salaires.
They cut their food in the field. They glean the vineyard of the wicked.
7 Ils ont réduit des nus à passer les nuits sans vêtements, ils ont ôté la couverture qui préservait leur vie.
They lie all night naked without clothing, and have no covering in the cold.
8 Ceux-ci, faute de demeure reçoivent la pluie des montagnes; ils n'ont d'autre lit que les rochers.
They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for lack of a shelter.
9 Leurs oppresseurs ont enlevé l'orphelin à la mamelle; ils ont humilié celui qui déjà était abattu.
There are those who pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor,
10 Ils ont procuré aux nus un triste sommeil; ils ont pris aux affamés leur bouchée de pain.
so that they go around naked without clothing. Being hungry, they carry the sheaves.
11 Ils ont dressé de mauvaises embûches en des défilés; ils n'ont point connu le droit chemin.
They make oil within the walls of these men. They tread wine presses, and suffer thirst.
12 L'âme des enfants chassés de leurs maisons et de leurs villes a exhalé de profonds sanglots.
From out of the populous city, men groan. The soul of the wounded cries out, yet God doesn’t regard the folly.
13 Pourquoi le Seigneur n'a-t-il pas exercé sa surveillance sur de telles actions? Ces impies en la terre qui leur appartenait ont tout ignoré; ils ne connaissaient pas les voies de la justice; ils n'ont même pas suivi les sentiers battus.
“These are of those who rebel against the light. They don’t know its ways, nor stay in its paths.
14 Quand il a su leurs œuvres, il les a voués aux ténèbres. Le voleur attend la nuit.
The murderer rises with the light. He kills the poor and needy. In the night he is like a thief.
15 L'œil de l'adultère a épié l'heure de l'obscurité; sa pensée est que nul ne le soupçonne, et il s'est voilé le visage.
The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, ‘No eye will see me.’ He disguises his face.
16 Pendant la nuit, il a percé des maisons; ils avaient fixé le moment, et ils n'ont point connu la lumière.
In the dark they dig through houses. They shut themselves up in the daytime. They don’t know the light.
17 En même temps que le matin, l'ombre de la mort leur apparaît et les trouble.
For the morning is to all of them like thick darkness, for they know the terrors of the thick darkness.
18 L'homme s'enfuit comme l'objet léger qui coule à la surface de l'eau; maudit soit son champ, que ses arbres disparaissent
“They are foam on the surface of the waters. Their portion is cursed in the earth. They don’t turn into the way of the vineyards.
Drought and heat consume the snow waters, so does Sheol those who have sinned. (Sheol h7585)
20 Si ensuite il vient à se rappeler son crime, c'est pour lui comme la vapeur, à peine visible, de la rosée; puisse-t-il être rétribué selon ses œuvres. Que tout homme inique soit broyé comme un arbre pourri.
The womb will forget him. The worm will feed sweetly on him. He will be no more remembered. Unrighteousness will be broken as a tree.
21 Car il n'a fait aucun bien à la femme stérile; il n'a eu aucune compassion de son sexe.
He devours the barren who don’t bear. He shows no kindness to the widow.
22 Il a ruiné les faibles avec emportement; aussi, au comble de son élévation, il ne sera point assuré de sa vie.
Yet God preserves the mighty by his power. He rises up who has no assurance of life.
23 S'il tombe malade, qu'il n'espère point de guérison, il succombera.
God gives them security, and they rest in it. His eyes are on their ways.
24 Car il a maltraité des gens en son orgueil; et puis il s'est flétri comme une herbe pendant l'ardente chaleur, ou comme un épi tombé de sa tige.
They are exalted; yet a little while, and they are gone. Yes, they are brought low, they are taken out of the way as all others, and are cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.
25 Qui dira que j'ai menti, et qui réduira mes paroles à néant?
If it isn’t so now, who will prove me a liar, and make my speech worth nothing?”
