Genèse 21
1 Ensuite le Seigneur visita Sarra, comme il avait dit; il accomplit la promesse qu'il lui avait faite.
And Jehovah hath looked after Sarah as He hath said, and Jehovah doth to Sarah as He hath spoken;
2 Et ayant conçu, elle enfanta un fils à Abraham, dans sa vieillesse, au temps prédit par le Seigneur.
and Sarah conceiveth, and beareth a son to Abraham, to his old age, at the appointed time that God hath spoken of with him;
3 Abraham donna au fils nouveau-né que lui avait enfanté Sarra le nom d'Isaac.
and Abraham calleth the name of his son who is born to him, whom Sarah hath born to him — Isaac;
4 Et Abraham circoncit Isaac le huitième jour, comme l'avait ordonné Dieu.
and Abraham circumciseth Isaac his son, [being] a son of eight days, as God hath commanded him.
5 Abraham avait cent ans, lorsque naquit son fils Isaac.
And Abraham [is] a son of a hundred years in Isaac his son being born to him,
6 Sarra dit alors: Le Seigneur m'a causé un doux rire; quiconque l'apprendra se réjouira avec moi.
and Sarah saith, 'God hath made laughter for me; every one who is hearing laugheth for me.'
7 Puis elle ajouta: Qui ira dire à Abraham que Sarra allaite un enfant, et que j'ai enfanté un fils dans ma vieillesse?
She saith also, 'Who hath said to Abraham, Sarah hath suckled sons, that I have born a son for his old age?'
8 Et l'enfant se fortifia, il fut ensuite sevré, et Abraham fit un grand festin le jour où fut sevré son fils Isaac.
And the lad groweth, and is weaned, and Abraham maketh a great banquet in the day of Isaac's being weaned;
9 Sur ces entrefaites, Sarra ayant vu le fils d'Agar l'Égyptienne, qui était né à Abraham, jouant avec son fils Isaac,
and Sarah seeth the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she hath borne to Abraham, mocking,
10 Dit à Abraham: Chasse cette servante et son fils, car le fils de cette servante ne partagera pas ton héritage avec Isaac mon fils.
and she saith to Abraham, 'Cast out this handmaid and her son; for the son of this handmaid hath no possession with my son — with Isaac.'
11 Cette parole, au sujet de son fils, parut très dure à Abraham.
And the thing is very wrong in the eyes of Abraham, for his son's sake;
12 Mais le Seigneur dit à Abraham: Que ceci ne te semble point dur, ni au sujet de l'enfant, ni au sujet de la servante; tout ce que te dira Sarra tu dois l'écouter, car c'est par Isaac qu'existera ta race.
and God saith unto Abraham, 'Let it not be wrong in thine eyes because of the youth, and because of thy handmaid: all that Sarah saith unto thee — hearken to her voice, for in Isaac is a seed called to thee.
13 Et du fils de cette servante je ferai une grande nation, parce qu'il est ta descendance.
As to the son of the handmaid also, for a nation I set him, because he [is] thy seed.'
14 Abraham se leva donc de grand matin, prit des vivres et une outre d'eau, et les donna à Agar; il mit ensuite l'enfant sur l'épaule d'Agar et la renvoya. Étant donc partie, elle erra dans le désert du côté du puits du serment.
And Abraham riseth early in the morning, and taketh bread, and a bottle of water, and giveth unto Hagar (placing [it] on her shoulder), also the lad, and sendeth her out; and she goeth on, and goeth astray in the wilderness of Beer-Sheba;
15 Mais l'eau de l'outre s'épuisa, et Agar déposa l'enfant au pied d'un sapin.
and the water is consumed from the bottle, and she placeth the lad under one of the shrubs.
16 Et, s'étant écartée, elle s'assit à une portée d'arc, en regardant à l'opposé: Que du moins, disait-elle, je ne voie point mourir mon enfant! Elle s'assit donc à l'opposé; et, l'enfant ayant crié, elle pleura.
And she goeth and sitteth by herself over-against, afar off, about a bow-shot, for she said, 'Let me not look on the death of the lad;' and she sitteth over-against, and lifteth up her voice, and weepeth.
17 Dieu entendit la voix de l'enfant du lieu où il était; un ange de Dieu appela Agar du haut du ciel, et il lui dit: Agar, qu'y a-t-il? n'aie point crainte; car Dieu a entendu la voix de l'enfant, du lieu où il est.
And God heareth the voice of the youth; and the messenger of God calleth unto Hagar from the heavens, and saith to her, 'What to thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath hearkened unto the voice of the youth where he [is];
18 Lève-toi, prends l'enfant et mène-le par la main car je le ferai père d'une grande nation.
rise, lift up the youth, and lay hold on him with thy hand, for for a great nation I set him.'
19 Et, Dieu lui ayant ouvert les yeux, elle vit un puits d'eau vive. Alors elle s'avança, remplit l'outre, et fit boire l'enfant.
And God openeth her eyes, and she seeth a well of water, and she goeth and filleth the bottle [with] water, and causeth the youth to drink;
20 Or, Dieu était avec l'enfant; il grandit, habitant le désert, et il devint archer.
and God is with the youth, and he groweth, and dwelleth in the wilderness, and is an archer;
21 Il demeura au désert, et sa mère le maria à une femme de Pharan en Égypte.
and he dwelleth in the wilderness of Paran, and his mother taketh for him a wife from the land of Egypt.
22 En ce temps-là, il advint qu'Abimélech, accompagné d'Ochosath, gardien de ses femmes, et de Phichol, général en chef de ses armées, parla à Abraham, disant: Le Seigneur soit avec toi en toutes tes entreprises.
And it cometh to pass at that time that Abimelech speaketh — Phichol also, head of his host — unto Abraham, saying, 'God [is] with thee in all that thou art doing;
23 Jure-moi donc et atteste Dieu de ne traiter injustement ni moi, ni ma race, ni mon nom, mais, par égard pour la terre que tu habites, de te comporter envers moi avec la même justice dont j'ai usé envers toi.
and now, swear to me by God here: thou dost not lie to me, or to my continuator, or to my successor; according to the kindness which I have done with thee thou dost with me, and with the land in which thou hast sojourned.'
24 Je le jurerai, répondit Abraham.
And Abraham saith, 'I — I do swear.'
25 Et Abraham fit des reproches à Abimélech touchant les puits d'eau vive dont ses serviteurs s'étaient emparés.
And Abraham reasoned with Abimelech concerning the matter of a well of water which Abimelech's servants have taken violently away,
26 Abimélech repartit: Je ne sais point qui t'a fait cela, tu ne me l'as point appris, et je n'en ai rien ouï dire avant aujourd'hui.
and Abimelech saith, 'I have not known who hath done this thing, and even thou didst not declare to me, and I also, I have not heard save to-day.'
27 En conséquence, Abraham prit des moutons et des bœufs, et les donna à Abimélech, Puis tous les deux firent alliance,
And Abraham taketh sheep and oxen, and giveth to Abimelech, and they make, both of them, a covenant;
28 Mais Abraham mit à part sept agneaux de brebis,
and Abraham setteth seven Lambs of the flock by themselves.
29 Et Ahimélech lui dit: Pourquoi ces sept agneaux de brebis que tu as mis à part?
And Abimelech saith unto Abraham, 'What [are] they — these seven lambs which thou hast set by themselves?'
30 Abraham répondit: Tu recevras de moi ces sept agneaux, et ils témoigneront que c'est moi qui ai creusé le puits.
And he saith, 'For — the seven lambs thou dost accept from my hand, so that it becometh a witness for me that I have digged this well;'
31 À cause de cela, il donna à ce lieu le nom de puits du Serment, parce que là ils jurèrent tous les deux.
therefore hath he called that place 'Beer-Sheba,' for there have both of them sworn.
32 Ainsi, ils firent alliance au puits du Serment; et Abimélech, avec Ochosath, gardien de ses femmes, et Phichol, général en chef de ses armées, se leva, et retourna en la terre des Philistins.
And they make a covenant in Beer-Sheba, and Abimelech riseth — Phichol also, head of his host — and they turn back unto the land of the Philistines;
33 Ensuite, Abraham ensemença un champ vers le puits du Serment; il invoqua en ce lieu le nom du Seigneur Dieu éternel.
and [Abraham] planteth a tamarisk in Beer-Sheba, and preacheth there in the name of Jehovah, God age-during;
34 Et il fut longtemps passager en la terre des Philistins.
and Abraham sojourneth in the land of the Philistines many days.
