2 Rois 12

1 La septième année de Jéhu, Joas devint roi, et il régna quarante ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Sébia, de Bersabée.

In the seventh year of Jehu began Jehoash to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

2 Joas fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahweh tout le temps que le prêtre Joïada lui donna ses instructions.

Jehoash did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD all his days in which Jehoiada the cohen instructed him.

3 Seulement les hauts lieux ne disparurent point; le peuple continuait d'offrir des sacrifices et des parfums sur les hauts lieux.

However the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

4 Joas dit aux prêtres: « Tout l'argent du sanctuaire qu'on apporte dans la maison de Yahweh, savoir, l'argent de la taxe personnelle, l'argent pour le rachat des personnes d'après l'estimation de chacune, et tout l'argent que chacun a à cœur d'apporter à la maison de Yahweh;

Jehoash said to the cohanim, "All the money of the holy things that is brought into the house of the LORD, in current money, the money of the persons for whom each man is rated, and all the money that it comes into any man's heart to bring into the house of the LORD,

5 que les prêtres le prennent, chacun des gens de sa connaissance, et qu'ils réparent les brèches de la maison, partout où l'on en trouvera. »

let the cohanim take it to them, every man from his acquaintance; and they shall repair the breaches of the house, wherever any breach shall be found."

6 Or il arriva que, dans la vingt-troisième année du roi Joas, les prêtres n'avaient pas réparé les brèches de la maison.

But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the cohanim had not repaired the breaches of the house.

7 Le roi Joas appela le prêtre Joïada et les autres prêtres, et leur dit: « Pourquoi ne réparez-vous pas les brèches de la maison? Maintenant, vous ne prendrez plus l'argent de vos connaissances, mais vous le livrerez pour les brèches de la maison. »

Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the cohen, and for the other cohanim, and said to them, "Why do you not repair the breaches of the house? Now therefore take no more money from your treasurers, but deliver it for the breaches of the house."

8 Les prêtres consentirent à ne plus prendre d'argent du peuple et ils n'eurent plus à réparer les brèches de la maison.

The cohanim consented that they should take no more money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house.

9 Alors le prêtre Joïada prit un coffre et, ayant percé un trou dans son couvercle, il le plaça à côté de l'autel, à droite du passage par lequel on entrait dans la maison de Yahweh; les prêtres qui gardaient la porte y mettaient tout l'argent qu'on apportait dans la maison de Yahweh.

But Jehoiada the cohen took a chest, and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the house of the LORD: and the cohanim who kept the threshold put in it all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.

10 Quand ils voyaient qu'il y avait beaucoup d'argent dans le coffre, le secrétaire du roi montait avec le grand prêtre, et ils liaient et comptaient l'argent qui se trouvait dans la maison de Yahweh.

It was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the cohen hagadol came up, and they put up in bags and counted the money that was found in the house of the LORD.

11 Ils remettaient l'argent pesé entre les mains de ceux qui faisaient exécuter l'ouvrage, qui étaient préposés sur la maison de Yahweh; et ceux-ci le donnaient aux charpentiers et aux autres ouvriers qui travaillaient à la maison de Yahweh;

They gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders, who worked on the house of the LORD,

12 aux maçons et aux tailleurs de pierre; ils le donnaient aussi pour les achats de bois et de pierres de taille nécessaires à la réparation des brèches de la maison de Yahweh, et pour tout ce que l'on dépensait pour consolider la maison.

and to the masons and the stone cutters, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the breaches of the house of the LORD, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.

13 Toutefois on ne fit pour la maison de Yahweh ni bassins d'argent, ni couteaux, ni coupes, ni trompettes, ni ustensile d'or, ni ustensile d'argent, avec l'argent qu'on apportait dans la maison de Yahweh:

But there were not made for the house of the LORD cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD;

14 on le donnait à ceux qui faisaient exécuter l'ouvrage, pour qu'ils l'emploient à réparer la maison de Yahweh.

for they gave that to those who did the work, and repaired therewith the house of the LORD.

15 On ne demandait pas de compte aux hommes entre les mains desquels on remettait l'argent pour le donner à ceux qui faisaient exécuter l'ouvrage, parce qu'ils se conduisaient avec probité.

Moreover they did not demand an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to give to those who did the work; for they dealt faithfully.

16 L'argent des sacrifices pour le délit et des sacrifices pour le péché n'était point apporté dans la maison de Yahweh: il était pour les prêtres.

The money for the trespass offerings, and the money for the sin offerings, was not brought into the house of the LORD: it was the cohanim'.

17 Alors Hazaël, roi de Syrie, monta et combattit contre Geth, dont il s'empara. Il résolut de monter contre Jérusalem.

Then Hazael king of Aram went up, and fought against Gath, and took it; and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.

18 Joas, roi de Juda, prit toutes les choses consacrées, ce qu'avaient consacré Josaphat, Joram et Ochozias, ses pères, rois de Juda, ce qu'il avait consacré lui-même, et tout l'or qui se trouvait dans les trésors de la maison de Yahweh et de la maison du roi, et il envoya le tout à Hazaël, roi de Syrie, qui s'éloigna de Jérusalem.

Jehoash king of Judah took all the holy things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own holy things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and of the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Aram: and he went away from Jerusalem.

19 Le reste des actes de Joas, et tout ce qu'il a fait, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?

Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

20 Ses serviteurs se soulevèrent et, ayant formé une conspiration, ils frappèrent Joas dans la maison de Mello, à la descente de Sella.

His servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and struck Joash at the house of Millo, on the way that goes down to Silla.

21 Ce furent Josachar, fils de Semaath, et Josabad, fils de Somer, ses serviteurs, qui le frappèrent, et il mourut. On l'enterra avec ses pères, dans la ville de David; et Amasias, son fils, régna à sa place.

For Jozabad the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, struck him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the City of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his place.
