Isaïe 9
1 Mais il n’y a plus de ténèbres pour la terre qui a été dans l’angoisse. Comme le premier temps a couvert d’opprobre le pays de Zabulon et le pays de Nephtali, le dernier temps remplira de gloire le chemin de la mer, le pays d’au delà du Jourdain et le district des nations.
For there is no gloom to her who had been in anguish, In the former time, he brought into dishonour The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, In the latter time, hath he brought into honour The Lake-way over the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
2 Le peuple qui marchait dans les ténèbres a vu une grande lumière, et sur ceux qui habitaient le pays de l’ombre de la mort, la lumière a resplendi.
the people who were walking in darkness, Have seen a great light, —The dwellers in a land death-shadowed, A light, hath shined upon them.
3 Vous avez multiplié votre peuple vous avez rendu grande la joie; il se réjouit devant vous comme on se réjouit à la moisson, comme on pousse des cris au partage du butin.
Thou hast increased the exultation Thou hast made great the joy, —They joy before thee, according to the joy of harvest, As men exult when they distribute spoil.
4 Car le, joug qui pesait sur lui, la verge qui frappait son épaule, le bâton de son exacteur, vous les avez brisés comme au jour de Madian!
For, the yoke of their burden, The cross-bar of their shoulder, The goad of their driver, Hast thou broken, as in the day of Midian.
5 Car toute sandale du guerrier dans la mêlée, et tout manteau roulé dans le sang sont livrés à l’incendie; le feu les dévore.
Surely, every boot of one tramping in tumult, and the war-cloak rolled in blood Then shall serve for burning, food for fire;
6 Car un enfant nous est né, un fils nous a été donné; l’empire a été posé sur ses épaules, et on lui donne pour nom: Conseiller admirable, Dieu fort, Père éternel, Prince de la paix:
For, A Child, hath been born to us, A Son, hath been given to us, And the dominion is upon his shoulder, —And his Name hath been called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty GOD, Father of Futurity, Prince of Prosperity.
7 Pour étendre l’empire et pour donner une paix sans fin au trône de David et à sa royauté, pour l’établir et l’affermir dans le droit et dans la justice, dès maintenant et à toujours. Le zèle de Yahweh des armées fera cela.
Of the increase of dominion, and of prosperity, There shall be no end—Upon the throne of David and Upon his kingdom, By establishing it and By sustaining it, With justice and With righteousness, —From henceforth, Even unto times age-abiding: The jealousy of Yahweh of hosts, will perform this!
8 Le Seigneur a envoyé une parole à Jacob, et elle est tombée en Israël;
A word, hath My Lord, sent unto Jacob, —And it shall alight on Israel;
9 tout le peuple en aura connaissance, Ephraïm et les habitants de Samarie; eux qui disent dans leur orgueil, et dans la fierté de leur cœur:
and the people shall all of them know [it] —Ephraim and the dweller in Samaria—Who in pride and insolence of heart, are saying:
10 « Les briques sont tombées, bâtissons en pierres de taille; les sycomores sont coupés, remplaçons-les par des Cèdres. »
Bricks, have fallen down But with hewn stone, will we build, —Sycomores, have been felled, But with cedars, will we replace them.
11 Yahweh fait lever contre eux les adversaires de Rasin, et il aiguillonne leurs ennemis,
Therefore will Yahweh strengthen the adversaries of Resin against him, —And his enemies will he arouse:
12 la Syrie à l’Orient, les Philistins à l’Occident, et ils dévoreront Israël à pleine bouche. Avec tout cela, sa colère ne s’est pas détournée, et sa main reste étendue.
Syrians before and Philistines behind, Thus have they devoured Israel with open mouth, —For all this, hath his anger, not turned back, But still, is his hand outstretched.
13 Car le peuple n’est pas revenu à Celui qui le frappait, et ils n’ont pas recherché Yahweh des armées.
Yet, the people, have not turned unto him that smote them, —And Yahweh of hosts, have they not sought.
14 Et Yahweh retranchera d’Israël la tête et la queue, la palme et le jonc, en un seul jour.
Therefore hath Yahweh cut off from Israel—Head and tail Palm-top and rush, In one day.
15 L’ancien et le noble, c’est la tête, et le prophète qui enseigne le mensonge, c’est la queue.
The elder and favourite, he, is the head, —And the prophet teaching falsehood, he, is the tail;
16 Ceux qui guident ce peuple l’égarent, et ceux qui s’ont guidés se perdent.
And they who should have led this people forward have been causing them to stray, —And, they who are led of them are destroyed,
17 C’est pourquoi le Seigneur ne prendra pas plaisir en ses jeunes gens, et il n’aura pas compassion de ses orphelins et de ses veuves; car tous sont des impies et des pervers, et toute bouche profère l’impiété. Avec tout cela, sa colère ne s’est pas détournée, et sa main reste étendue.
For this cause, over their choice young men, will My Lord not rejoice, And on their fatherless and their widows, will he not have compassion, For every one of them, is profane and an evildoer, And, every mouth is speaking baseness, —For all this, hath his anger, not turned back, But still, is his hand outstretched.
18 Car la malice s’est allumée comme un feu; elle dévore les ronces et les épines; elle embrase les halliers de la forêt, et la fumée s’élève en tourbillons.
For lawlessness, hath consumed like fire, Briars and thorns, doth it devour, —Yea it hath kindled upon the thickets of the forest, And they have rolled up as a column of smoke.
19 Par le courroux de Yahweh des armées, le pays est embrasé, et le peuple est devenu la proie des flammes. Nul n’épargne son frère.
Through the wrath of Yahweh of hosts, is the land consumed, —And the people have come to be, as fuel for fire, A man unto his own brother, sheweth not pity;
20 On coupe à droite, et l’on a faim; on dévore à gauche, et l’on n’est pas rassasié; chacun dévore la chair de son bras; Manassé contre Ephraïm, Ephraïm contre Manassé, tous deux ensemble contre Juda.
And he hath slain on the right, and yet is hungry, And hath eaten on the left, yet are they not satisfied, —Every one, the flesh of his own arm, will they eat:
21 Avec tout cela, sa colère ne s’est pas détournée, et sa main reste étendue.
Manasseh—Ephraim, and Ephraim—Manasseh, They together—against Judah, —For all this, hath his anger not turned back, But still, is his hand outstretched.
