Job 34
1 Et Elihu répondit,
Furthermore Elihu responded, and said: —
2 « Écoutez mes paroles, sages. Écoutez-moi, vous qui avez la connaissance.
Hear, ye wise men, my words, and, ye who know, give ear unto me;
3 Car l'oreille juge les mots, comme le palais goûte la nourriture.
For, the ear, trieth words, as, the palate, tasteth in eating.
4 Choisissons pour nous ce qui est juste. Connaissons entre nous ce qui est bon.
What is right, let us choose for ourselves, Let us know, among ourselves, what is good;
5 Car Job a dit: « Je suis juste », Dieu m'a enlevé mon droit.
For Job hath said—I am righteous, But, GOD, hath turned away my right;
6 Malgré mon droit, je suis considéré comme un menteur. Ma blessure est incurable, bien que je sois sans désobéissance.
Concerning mine own right, shall I tell a falsehood? Incurable is my disease—not for any transgression.
7 Quel homme est comme Job, qui boit le mépris comme de l'eau,
What man is like Job? He drinketh in scoffing like water;
8 qui fréquente les ouvriers de l'iniquité, et marche avec des hommes méchants?
And is on the way to keep company, with the workers of iniquity, and to walk with lawless men.
9 Car il a dit: « Il ne sert à rien à un homme pour qu'il se complaise en Dieu.
For he hath said, It profiteth not a man, when, his good pleasure, is with God.
10 « Écoutez-moi donc, hommes d'intelligence: loin de Dieu, qu'il fasse le mal, du Tout-Puissant, pour qu'il commette l'iniquité.
Wherefore, ye men of mind, hearken unto me, —Far be it, that, GOD, should be lawless, or, the Almighty, be perverse!
11 Car le travail d'un homme, il le lui rendra, et faire en sorte que chacun trouve selon ses voies.
For, what any son of earth doeth, he repayeth him, and, according to every man’s course, he causeth him to find.
12 Oui, certainement, Dieu ne fera pas le mal, Le Tout-Puissant ne pervertira pas non plus la justice.
Nay, verily, GOD, will not condemn unjustly, —nor, the Almighty, pervert justice.
13 Qui l'a mis en charge de la terre? Ou qui l'a établi sur le monde entier?
Who set him in charge of the earth? Or who appointed [him] the whole world?
14 S'il mettait son cœur sur lui-même, s'il rassemblait en lui son esprit et son souffle,
If he should set against him his heart, His spirit and his inspiration, unto himself he should withdraw.
15 toute chair périrait ensemble, et l'homme redeviendrait poussière.
All flesh together, would cease to breathe, and, the earth-born, unto dust, would return.
16 « Si maintenant vous avez de l'intelligence, écoutez ceci. Écoutez la voix de mes mots.
If then [thou hast] understanding, hear this, Give thou ear to the teaching of my words: —
17 Celui qui déteste la justice doit-il gouverner? Condamnerez-vous celui qui est juste et puissant,
Shall, the very hater of right, control? Or, the just—the mighty one, wilt thou condemn?
18 qui dit à un roi: « Infâme! ou aux nobles, « Méchant! »?
Doth one say to a king, Abandoned one! Or, Lawless one! unto nobles?
19 Il ne respecte pas la personne des princes, ni respecter les riches plus que les pauvres, car ils sont tous l'œuvre de ses mains.
For he hath shewn no respect of persons unto princes, neither hath he recognised the rich rather than the poor? For, the work of his hands, are they all.
20 En un instant, ils meurent, même à minuit. Le peuple est ébranlé et disparaît. Les puissants sont emportés sans ménagement.
In a moment, they die, even in the middle of the night, —A people are convulsed when they pass away, A mighty one is removed, without hand;
21 « Car ses yeux sont sur les voies de l'homme. Il voit toutes ses allées et venues.
For, his eyes, are on the ways of a man, and, all his footsteps, he beholdeth, —
22 Il n'y a ni ténèbres, ni obscurité épaisse, où les ouvriers de l'iniquité peuvent se cacher.
No darkness, and no death-shade, where the workers of iniquity may hide.
23 Car il n'a pas besoin de considérer un homme plus avant, qu'il devrait aller devant Dieu en jugement.
For, unto no man, doth he appoint a repetition, —in going unto GOD in judgment;
24 Il met en pièces les puissants d'une manière insoupçonnable, et met les autres à leur place.
He shattereth mighty ones unsearchably, and setteth up others in their stead:
25 C'est pourquoi il prend connaissance de leurs œuvres. Il les renverse dans la nuit, pour qu'ils soient détruits.
Therefore, he observeth their works, —and overturneth [them] in a night, and they are crushed;
26 Il les frappe comme des méchants à la vue des autres;
In the place of lawless men, hath he chastised them, in presence of beholders.
27 parce qu'ils se sont détournés de lui, et n'a pas voulu prêter attention à ses manières,
Forasmuch, as they turned from following him, and, none of his ways, did they teach;
28 et ils ont fait en sorte que le cri des pauvres parvienne jusqu'à lui. Il a entendu le cri des affligés.
Causing to reach him the outcry of the poor, Yea, the outcry of the oppressed, he heareth.
29 Quand il donne le calme, qui donc peut condamner? Quand il cache son visage, qui donc peut le voir? Il est au-dessus d'une nation ou d'un homme,
When, he, giveth quiet, who then shall condemn? And, when he hideth [his] face, who then shall sing of him? whether unto a nation or unto mankind altogether,
30 afin que l'impie ne règne pas, pour qu'il n'y ait personne pour piéger le peuple.
That impious men may not reign, nor be ensnarers of the people.
31 « Car quelqu'un a-t-il dit à Dieu, Je suis coupable, mais je n'offenserai plus personne.
For, unto GOD, hath one [ever] said—I have borne punishment, I will not be perverse;
32 Enseigne-moi ce que je ne vois pas. Si j'ai commis l'iniquité, je ne la commettrai plus »?
What I see not, do, thou, shew me, If, perverseness, I have wrought, I will do it no more?
33 Sa rétribution sera-t-elle telle que tu la désires, pour que tu la refuses? Car c'est vous qui devez choisir, et non moi. Par conséquent, parlez de ce que vous savez.
According to thy mind, must he requite it, that thou hast refused? For, thou, must choose, and not, I, What then thou knowest, speak!
34 Les hommes doués de discernement me le diront, oui, tout homme sage qui m'écoute:
The men of mind, will say to me, yea any wise man hearkening unto me: —
35 « Job parle sans savoir. Ses paroles sont sans sagesse.
Job, without knowledge, doth speak, and, his words, are not with discretion.
36 Je souhaite que Job soit jugé jusqu'au bout, parce qu'il a répondu comme les méchants.
Would that Job might be tested to the uttermost, for replying with the men of iniquity:
37 Car il ajoute la rébellion à son péché. Il frappe ses mains parmi nous, et multiplie ses paroles contre Dieu. »
For he addeth—unto his sin—rebellion, In our midst, he clappeth his hands, and multiplieth his sayings against GOD.
