Amos 3
1 Écoutez cette parole que Yahvé a prononcée contre vous, enfants d'Israël, contre toute la famille que j'ai fait monter du pays d'Égypte, en disant:
Hear ye this word, which Yahweh hath spoken, concerning you, ye sons of Israel, —concerning the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt saying: —
2 « Je t'ai seulement choisi parmi toutes les familles de la terre. C'est pourquoi je vous punirai pour tous vos péchés. »
Only you, have I acknowledged, of all the families of the ground, For this cause, will I visit upon you all your iniquities.
3 Deux personnes marchent ensemble, à moins qu'ils ne soient d'accord?
Can two walk together, —except they meet?
4 Le lion rugit dans le fourré, quand il n'a pas de proie? Est-ce qu'un jeune lion crie hors de sa tanière, s'il n'a rien attrapé?
Will a lion roar in the forest, when, prey, he hath none? Will a young lion utter his voice out of his den, when he hath made no capture?
5 Un oiseau peut-il tomber dans un piège sur la terre, où aucun piège ne lui est tendu? Est-ce qu'un piège jaillit du sol, quand il n'y a rien à attraper?
Will a bird fall upon a net to the earth, when there is no, snare, for it? Will a net rise from the ground, when it hath, captured nothing?
6 Est-ce que l'alarme de la trompette sonne dans une ville, sans que les gens aient peur? Le mal arrive-t-il à une ville, et Yahvé ne l'a pas fait?
Or a horn be blown in a city, and, a people, not tremble? Or calamity happen in a city, and, Yahweh, not have wrought with effect?
7 Le Seigneur Yahvé ne fera rien, à moins qu'il ne révèle son secret à ses serviteurs les prophètes.
Surely My Lord Yahweh, will do, nothing, —except he have disclosed his secret unto his servants, the prophets!
8 Le lion a rugi. Qui n'aura pas peur? Le Seigneur Yahvé a parlé. Qui ne peut que prophétiser?
A lion, hath roared, Who will not fear? My Lord Yahweh, hath spoken, Who can forbear to prophesy?
9 Proclamez dans les palais d'Ashdod, et dans les palais du pays d'Égypte, et dire: « Rassemblez-vous sur les montagnes de Samarie, et voir quelle agitation règne en elle, et quelle oppression il y a parmi eux. »
Announce it over the palaces in Ashdod, and over the palaces in the land of Egypt, —and say ye—Gather yourselves together upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold ye—the great disorders in the midst thereof, and the oppressed within her.
10 « En effet, ils ne savent pas faire le bien, dit l'Éternel, « Qui amassent le pillage et le butin dans leurs palais. »
Therefore do they not know how to do right, Declareth Yahweh, who are treasuring up violence and spoil in their palaces.
11 C'est pourquoi le Seigneur Yahvé dit: « Un adversaire envahira le pays; et il abattra vos forteresses, et vos forteresses seront pillées. »
Therefore—Thus, saith My Lord, Yahweh, An adversary! Yea round about the land, —and he who shall bring down, from thee, thy strength, And spoiled shall be thy palaces.
12 Yahvé dit: « Comme le berger qui sauve de la gueule du lion deux pattes, ou un morceau d'oreille, Ainsi seront sauvés les enfants d'Israël qui sont assis à Samarie sur le coin d'un divan, et sur les coussins de soie d'un lit. »
Thus, saith Yahweh, Just as a shepherd rescueth, out of the mouth of the lion, a couple of shankbones, or the tip of an ear, so, shall be rescued the sons of Israel, who are tarrying in Samaria, in the corner of the divan, and on the damask of the luxurious couch.
13 « Écoutez, et témoignez contre la maison de Jacob, dit le Seigneur Yahvé, le Dieu des armées.
Hear ye and bear witness, throughout the house of Jacob, —Commandeth My Lord, Yahweh, God of hosts:
14 « Car le jour où je visiterai sur lui les transgressions d'Israël, Je visiterai aussi les autels de Béthel; et les cornes de l'autel seront coupées, et tombent sur le sol.
That, in the day I visit the transgressions of Israel upon him, then will I punish, concerning the altars of Bethel, So shall the horns of the altar, be broken off, and they shall fall to the ground;
15 Je frapperai la maison d'hiver avec la maison d'été; et les maisons d'ivoire périront, et les grandes maisons auront une fin, » dit Yahvé.
And I will smite the winter house along with the summer house, —and the houses of ivory, shall be destroyed! and the great houses, shall disappear, Declareth Yahweh.
