1 Or, une femme d'entre les femmes des fils des prophètes cria à Élisée, en disant: « Ton serviteur, mon mari, est mort. Tu sais que ton serviteur craignait Yahvé. Maintenant le créancier est venu prendre pour lui mes deux enfants pour en faire des esclaves. »
Now, a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets, made outcry unto Elisha, saying—Thy servant, my husband, is dead, and, thou, knowest that, thy servant, was one who revered Yahweh, —now, the creditor, hath come to take my two boys to himself as bondmen.
2 Élisée lui dit: « Que dois-je faire pour toi? Dis-moi, qu'est-ce que tu as dans la maison? » Elle a dit: « Votre serviteur n'a rien dans la maison, sauf un pot d'huile. »
And Elisha said unto her—What shall I do for thee? tell me what thou, hast, in the house. And she said—Thy maid-servant hath, nothing at all, in the house, save a flask of oil.
3 Puis il dit: « Allez emprunter des récipients vides à tous vos voisins. N'empruntez pas seulement quelques récipients.
And he said—Go, ask thee vessels, from without, of all thy neighbours, —empty vessels, let them not be few.
4 Va, ferme la porte sur toi et sur tes fils, et verse de l'huile dans tous ces récipients, et mets de côté ceux qui sont pleins. »
And, when thou hast come in, then shalt thou shut the door behind thee and behind thy sons, and shalt pour out into all these vessels, —and, that which is full, shalt thou set aside.
5 Et elle s'éloigna de lui, et ferma la porte sur elle et sur ses fils. Ils lui apportèrent les récipients, et elle y versa de l'huile.
So she went out from his presence, and shut the door behind her, and behind her sons, —they bringing near to her, and she pouring out.
6 Lorsque les récipients furent pleins, elle dit à son fils: « Apporte-moi un autre récipient. » Il lui a dit: « Il n'y a pas d'autre récipient. » Puis l'huile a cessé de couler.
And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son—Bring me a vessel more. And he said unto her—There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
7 Alors elle vint en parler à l'homme de Dieu. Il dit: « Va, vends l'huile, et paie ta dette; toi et tes fils, vous vivrez du reste. »
Then came she in, and told the man of God, and he said—Go, sell the oil, and pay thy creditor, —and, thou and thy sons, shall live of the rest.
8 Un jour, Élisée se rendit à Shunem, où se trouvait une femme de bonne réputation, et elle le persuada de manger du pain. Elle le persuada de manger du pain. Et chaque fois qu'il passait par là, il s'y rendait pour manger du pain.
And so it was, on a day, that Elisha passed over unto Shunem, where was a woman of position, and she constrained him to eat bread, —and so it came about, whensoever he passed that way, that he turned aside thither, to eat bread.
9 Elle dit à son mari: « Voici, je vois que c'est un saint homme de Dieu qui passe sans cesse devant nous.
Then said she unto her husband, Lo! I pray thee—I perceive that, a holy man of God, he is, —passing our way continually.
10 Je t'en prie, faisons une petite chambre sur le toit. Mettons-lui un lit, une table, une chaise et un chandelier. Quand il viendra chez nous, il pourra y rester. »
I pray thee, let us make a little upper chamber on the wall and set for him there—a bed, and a table, and a seat, and a lampstand, —so shall it be, when he cometh to us, that he can turn in thither.
11 Un jour qu'il était arrivé là, il entra dans la chambre et s'y coucha.
And it came to pass, on a day, that he came thither, —so he turned aside into the upper chamber, and slept there.
12 Il dit à Guéhazi, son serviteur: « Appelle cette Sunamite. » Lorsqu'il l'eut appelée, elle se tint devant lui.
Then said he unto Gehazi, his young man, Call this Shunammitess. And he called her, and she stood before him.
13 Il lui dit: « Dis-lui maintenant: « Voici, tu as pris soin de nous avec tous ces soins. Que fera-t-on pour toi? Veux-tu que l'on parle de toi au roi ou au chef de l'armée? ». Elle a répondu: « J'habite parmi les miens. »
And he said to him—I pray thee, say unto her—Lo! thou hast cared for us with all this anxious care, what can be done for thee? Is it, that we should speak for thee, unto the king, or unto the general of the army? But she said, In the midst of mine own people, do, I, dwell.
14 Il dit: « Que faut-il donc faire pour elle? » Guéhazi répondit: « Très certainement, elle n'a pas de fils, et son mari est âgé. »
So he said, What then can be done for thee? And Gehazi said, Verily, she hath no, son, and, her husband, is, old.
15 Il dit: « Appelle-la. » Quand il l'eut appelée, elle se tint à la porte.
And he said—Call her. So he called her, and she stood in the doorway.
16 Il dit: « L'année prochaine, à la même époque, tu embrasseras un fils. » Elle a dit: « Non, mon seigneur, homme de Dieu, ne mens pas à ta servante. »
Then said he—At this season, about the time of spring, thou, shalt be embracing a son. And she said—Nay! my lord, thou man of God, do not delude thy maid-servant.
17 La femme conçut et enfanta un fils à l'époque où le temps était venu, comme Élisée le lui avait dit.
And the woman conceived, and bare a son, at this season, about the time of spring, when Elisha, had spoken unto her.
18 Lorsque l'enfant eut grandi, il sortit un jour vers son père, vers les moissonneurs.
And, when the child was grown, it came to pass, on a certain day, that he went out unto his father, unto the reapers;
19 Il dit à son père: « Ma tête! Ma tête! » Il dit à son serviteur: « Porte-le à sa mère. »
and he said unto his father—My head! my head! So he said unto the young man, Carry him to his mother.
20 Lorsqu'il l'eut pris et amené à sa mère, il resta assis sur ses genoux jusqu'à midi, puis il mourut.
And, when he had carried him, and brought him in unto his mother, he sat on her knees until noon, and then died.
21 Elle monta et le déposa sur le lit de l'homme de Dieu, ferma la porte sur lui, et sortit.
And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, —and shut him in, and then went out.
22 Elle appela son mari et lui dit: « Envoie-moi, je te prie, un des serviteurs et un des ânes, afin que je puisse courir chez l'homme de Dieu et revenir. »
And she called unto her husband, and said—Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, —that I may run unto the man of God, and return!
23 Il répondit: « Pourquoi voudrais-tu aller le voir aujourd'hui? Ce n'est ni une nouvelle lune ni un sabbat. » Elle a dit: « C'est bon. »
And he said—Wherefore art thou going unto him, to-day, neither new moon nor sabbath? And she said—Peace!
24 Puis elle sella un âne et dit à son serviteur: « Conduis, et avance! Ne ralentis pas pour moi, à moins que je ne te le demande. »
Then saddled she the ass, and said unto her young man—Lead on, and go forward, —do not slacken, for my sake, the riding, except I have bidden thee.
25 Elle s'en alla, et vint vers l'homme de Dieu sur la montagne du Carmel. Lorsque l'homme de Dieu la vit de loin, il dit à Guéhazi, son serviteur: « Voici la Sunamite.
So she went her way, and came unto the man of God, unto Mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her, opposite, that he said unto Gehazi young man, Lo! this Shunammitess!
26 Cours à sa rencontre et demande-lui: « Est-ce que tu te portes bien? Ton mari se porte-t-il bien? Ton enfant se porte-t-il bien? Elle a répondu: « C'est bien. »
Now, run, I pray thee, to meet her, and say to her—Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she said, Well!
27 Lorsqu'elle arriva auprès de l'homme de Dieu sur la colline, elle se saisit de ses pieds. Guéhazi s'approcha pour la repousser; mais l'homme de Dieu dit: « Laisse-la tranquille, car son âme est troublée au-dedans d'elle; et Yahvé me l'a caché et ne me l'a pas dit. »
But, when she came unto the man of God, on the mount, she caught hold of his feet, —and Gehazi drew near to thrust her away, when the man of God said—Let her alone! for, her life, is embittered to her, howbeit, Yahweh, hath hidden it from me, and hath not told me.
28 Alors elle dit: « Est-ce que je t'ai demandé un fils, mon seigneur? N'ai-je pas dit: « Ne me trompe pas »? »
Then said she, Did I ask a son, of my lord? Said I not, Thou must not mislead me?
29 Puis il dit à Guéhazi: « Mets ton manteau dans ta ceinture, prends mon bâton dans ta main, et va-t'en. Si tu rencontres quelqu'un, ne le salue pas, et si quelqu'un te salue, ne lui réponds pas. Puis pose mon bâton sur le visage de l'enfant. »
And he said to Gehazi—Gird thy loins, and take my staff in thy hand, and go thy way, if thou meet with any man, thou must not bless him, and, if any man bless thee, thou must not respond to him, —then shalt thou lay my staff upon the face of the boy.
30 La mère de l'enfant dit: « Aussi vrai que Yahvé est vivant et que ton âme est vivante, je ne te quitterai pas. » Il se leva donc et la suivit.
But the mother of the boy said, By the life of Yahweh and by the life of thine own soul, I will not leave thee. So he arose and followed her.
31 Guéhazi les précéda et posa le bâton sur le visage de l'enfant; mais il n'y avait ni voix ni ouïe. Il retourna donc à sa rencontre et lui dit: « L'enfant ne s'est pas réveillé. »
Now, Gehazi, had passed on before them, and laid the staff on the face of the boy, but there was neither voice, nor attention, —so he returned to meet him, and told him, saying—The boy hath not awaked.
32 Lorsqu'Élisée entra dans la maison, voici, l'enfant était mort et couché sur son lit.
And, when Elisha had come into the house, lo! the boy, was dead, laid upon his bed.
33 Il entra donc, ferma la porte sur eux deux, et pria l'Éternel.
So he went in, and shut the door upon them two, —and prayed unto Yahweh.
34 Il monta et se coucha sur l'enfant, mit sa bouche sur sa bouche, ses yeux sur ses yeux, et ses mains sur ses mains. Il s'étendit sur lui, et la chair de l'enfant se réchauffa.
Then gat he up, and lay upon the child, and put his own mouth upon his mouth, and his own eyes upon his eyes, and his own hands upon his hands, and bowed himself upon him, —and the flesh of the child, waxed warm.
35 Puis il s'en retourna et fit une fois le tour de la maison, puis il monta et s'étendit sur lui. L'enfant éternua sept fois, et l'enfant ouvrit les yeux.
Then retraced he, and walked in the house—once to and fro, and then went up and bowed himself upon him, —and the boy sneezed as many as seven times, and the boy opened his eyes.
36 Il appela Guéhazi, et dit: « Appelle cette Shunamite! » Il l'appela donc. Quand elle fut entrée chez lui, il dit: « Prends ton fils. »
Then called he Gehazi, and said—Call this Shunammitess. So he called her, and, when she was come in unto him, he said—Take up thy son.
37 Alors elle entra, se jeta à ses pieds et se prosterna à terre; puis elle prit son fils et sortit.
So she came in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, —and took up her son, and went forth.
38 Élisée revint à Gilgal. Il y avait une famine dans le pays; les fils des prophètes étaient assis devant lui, et il dit à son serviteur: « Va chercher la grande marmite, et fais bouillir du ragoût pour les fils des prophètes. »
Now, Elisha, returned to Gilgal, and there was, a famine, in the land, and, the sons of the prophets, being seated before him, he said to his young man—Put on the large pot, and boil a mess of food, for the sons of the prophets.
39 L'un d'eux sortit dans les champs pour cueillir des herbes, et il trouva une vigne sauvage; il en cueillit un genou plein de courges sauvages, et il vint les couper dans la marmite de ragoût, car ils ne les reconnaissaient pas.
And one went out into the field, to gather herbs, and found a vine in the field, and gathered thereof wild gourds, his lap full, and came in, and sliced them into the pot; for they knew them not.
40 Ils versèrent donc à manger pour les hommes. Comme ils mangeaient un peu du ragoût, ils s'écrièrent: « Homme de Dieu, il y a de la mort dans le pot! ». Et ils ne purent en manger.
So they poured out for the men to eat, —and it came so pass, as they were eating of the mess, that, they, made outcry and said—Death in the pot, O man of God! And they could not eat.
41 Mais il dit: « Apporte donc de la farine. » Il la jeta dans la marmite; et il dit: « Sers-la au peuple, afin qu'il mange. » Et il n'y avait rien de nuisible dans la marmite.
And he said—Then fetch meal. And he cast it into the pot, —and then said—Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.
42 Un homme de Baal Shalishah vint et apporta à l'homme de Dieu du pain des prémices: vingt pains d'orge et des épis frais dans son sac. Élisée dit: « Donnez au peuple, pour qu'il mange. »
And, a man, came in from Baal-Shalisha, and brought for the man of God firstfruit bread, twenty barley loaves, and garden grain in the husk thereof. And he said—Give to the people, that they may eat.
43 Son serviteur dit: « Quoi, je dois mettre cela devant cent hommes? » Mais il dit: « Donne-le au peuple, qu'il mange, car Yahvé a dit: « Ils mangeront et il en restera ». »
But his attendant said—How can I set this before a hundred men? And he said—Give to the people, that they may eat, for, Thus, saith Yahweh, They are about to eat and to leave remaining.
44 Et il les mit devant eux, et ils mangèrent, et il en resta, selon la parole de Yahvé.
So he set before them, and they did eat and left remaining, according to the word of Yahweh.
