1 Chroniques 17
1 Lorsque David habitait dans sa maison, il dit à Nathan, le prophète: « Voici, j'habite dans une maison de cèdre, mais l'arche de l'alliance de Yahvé est dans une tente. »
And it came to pass, when David had taken up his abode in his house, that David said unto Nathan the prophet, Lo! I, am dwelling in a house of cedars, but, the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, is under curtains.
2 Nathan dit à David: « Fais tout ce qui est dans ton cœur, car Dieu est avec toi. »
Then said Nathan unto David, All that is in thy heart, do, —for, God, is with thee.
3 Cette même nuit, la parole de Dieu fut adressée à Nathan, en ces termes:
But so it was that, in that night, the word of God came unto Nathan, saying:
4 Va dire à David, mon serviteur: L'Éternel dit: Tu ne me bâtiras pas de maison pour que j'y habite;
Go and say unto David my servant, Thus, saith Yahweh, —Thou, shalt not build me a house, to dwell in;
5 car je n'ai pas habité dans une maison depuis le jour où j'ai fait monter Israël jusqu'à ce jour, mais j'ai marché de tente en tente et de tente en tente.
seeing that I have not dwelt in a house, since the day that I brought up Israel, until this day, —but have been from tent to tent, and without a habitation.
6 Dans tous les lieux où j'ai marché avec tout Israël, j'ai dit à l'un des juges d'Israël, à qui j'avais donné l'ordre de paître mon peuple, pourquoi vous ne m'avez pas bâti une maison de cèdre.
Wheresoever I have wandered with all Israel, spake I ever, a word, with one of the judges of Israel, whom I charged to shepherd my people, saying, —Wherefore have ye not built me a house of cedars?
7 « Maintenant, tu diras à mon serviteur David: « L'Éternel des armées dit: « Je t'ai pris de la bergerie, de la suite des brebis, pour être prince sur mon peuple d'Israël.
Now, therefore, thus, shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, I myself, took thee from the pasture, from after the flock, —to become leader over my people Israel;
8 J'ai été avec toi partout où tu es allé, et j'ai exterminé tous tes ennemis devant toi. Je te donnerai un nom semblable au nom des grands qui sont sur la terre.
and was with thee whithersoever thou didst go, and have cut off all thine enemies, from before thee, —and will make thee a name, like the name of the great ones, who are in the earth;
9 J'établirai un lieu pour mon peuple d'Israël, et je le planterai, afin qu'il habite dans son lieu et qu'il ne soit plus déplacé. Les enfants du mal ne le détruiront plus, comme au début,
and will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall inhabit their place, and be unsettled no more, —neither shall the sons of perversity again wear them out, as at the first;
10 et depuis le jour où j'ai ordonné à des juges d'être à la tête de mon peuple d'Israël. Je soumettrai tous vos ennemis. Et je vous dis que l'Éternel vous bâtira une maison.
even from the days when I put judges in charge over my people Israel, and have subdued all thine enemies, —that I might make thee great, yea, a house, will Yahweh build for thee.
11 Lorsque tes jours seront accomplis et que tu devras aller auprès de tes pères, j'établirai ta descendance après toi, qui sera du nombre de tes fils, et j'affermirai son règne.
And it shall be that, when thy days are fulfilled, to sleep with thy fathers, then will I raise up thy seed after thee, who shall be of thy sons, —and I will establish his kingdom.
12 Il me bâtira une maison, et j'établirai son trône pour toujours.
He, shall build me a house, —and I will establish his throne unto times age-abiding.
13 Je serai son père, et il sera mon fils. Je ne lui retirerai pas ma bonté, comme je l'ai retirée à celui qui était avant toi,
I, will become his father, and, he, shall become my son, —and, my lovingkindness, will I not cause to depart from him, —as I caused it to depart from him who was before thee;
14 mais je l'établirai dans ma maison et dans mon royaume pour toujours. Son trône sera établi pour toujours. »'"
but I will cause him to remain over my house and over my kingdom, unto times age-abiding, —and, his throne, shall be established, unto times age-abiding.
15 D'après toutes ces paroles et d'après toute cette vision, c'est ainsi que Nathan parla à David.
According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so, spake Nathan unto David.
16 Alors le roi David entra et s'assit devant l'Éternel, et il dit: Qui suis-je, Éternel Dieu, et quelle est ma maison, pour que tu m'aies amené jusqu'ici?
Then entered King David, and tarried before Yahweh, —and said, Who am, I, O Yahweh God, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto;
17 C'était peu de chose à tes yeux, ô Dieu, mais tu as parlé de la maison de ton serviteur pour longtemps, et tu m'as respecté comme un homme de haut rang, Yahvé Dieu.
and hast made this seem little in thine eyes, O God, in that thou hast spoken concerning the house of thy servant, for a great while to come? Thus wilt thou provide for me, according to the rank of manhood, and hast exalted me, O Yahweh God!
18 Que peut encore te dire David au sujet de l'honneur qui est fait à ton serviteur? Car tu connais ton serviteur.
What, yet further, can David say unto thee, [thus] to honour thy servant, —seeing that, thou thyself, knowest, thine own servant?
19 Yahvé, c'est à cause de ton serviteur, et selon ton propre cœur, que tu as fait toute cette grandeur, pour faire connaître toutes ces grandes choses.
O Yahweh, for the sake of thy servant, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this great thing, —making known all the great things.
20 Yahvé, il n'y a personne comme toi, et il n'y a aucun Dieu en dehors de toi, selon tout ce que nous avons entendu de nos oreilles.
O Yahweh, there is none like unto thee, yea there is no God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
21 Quelle nation sur la terre est semblable à ton peuple d'Israël, que Dieu est allé racheter pour en faire un peuple, pour te faire un nom par des choses grandes et impressionnantes, en chassant les nations devant ton peuple que tu as racheté d'Égypte?
Who then is like thy people Israel, a nation alone in the earth, —whom God went to redeem, to be his own people, to make for thyself a name for great and fearful things, to drive out, nations, from before thy people, whom thou didst redeem out of Egypt;
22 Car tu as fait de ton peuple d'Israël ton peuple pour toujours, et toi, Yahvé, tu es devenu son Dieu.
and didst appoint thy people Israel for thyself as a people, unto times age-abiding, —thou thyself, also, O Yahweh, becoming their God?
23 Maintenant, Yahvé, que la parole que tu as prononcée sur ton serviteur et sur sa maison soit affermie pour toujours, et que tu fasses ce que tu as dit.
Now, therefore, O Yahweh, the word which thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, be it steadfast unto times age-abiding, —and do as thou hast spoken:
24 Que ton nom soit affermi et magnifié à jamais, en disant: « L'Éternel des armées est le Dieu d'Israël, le Dieu d'Israël. La maison de David, ton serviteur, est affermie devant toi »
yea let it be steadfast, and so let thy Name be magnified unto times age-abiding, saying, Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, is a God to Israel! seeing that, the house of David thy servant, is established before thee.
25 Car toi, mon Dieu, tu as révélé à ton serviteur que tu lui bâtirais une maison. C'est pourquoi ton serviteur a trouvé le courage de prier devant toi.
For, thou, O my God, hast unveiled the ear of thy servant, that thou wilt build for him a house, —for this cause, hath thy servant found [it in his heart] to pray before thee.
26 Or, Yahvé, tu es Dieu, et tu as promis ce bien à ton serviteur.
Now, therefore, O Yahweh, thou, art God, —therefore hast thou spoken concerning thy servant this goodness.
27 Maintenant, il t'a plu de bénir la maison de ton serviteur, afin qu'elle subsiste à jamais devant toi; car c'est toi, Yahvé, qui as béni, et elle est bénie à jamais. »
Now, therefore, let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be unto times age-abiding before thee, —for, thou O Yahweh, hast blessed, and it is to be blessed unto times age-abiding.
