Sananlaskujen 19
1 Köyhä joka siveydessä vaeltaa, on parempi kuin väärä huulissansa, joka kuitenkin tyhmä on.
Better is a poor [man] that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
2 Joka ei toimella laita, ei hänelle hyvin käy; ja joka on nopsa jaloista, se loukkaa itsensä.
Also that a person be without knowledge is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet maketh false steps.
3 Ihmisen tyhmyys eksyttää hänen tiensä, niin että hänen sydämensä vihastuu Herraa vastaan.
The folly of man distorteth his way, and his heart is irritated against Jehovah.
4 Tavara tekee monta ystävää, vaan köyhä hyljätään ystäviltä.
Wealth addeth many friends; but the poor is separated from his friend.
5 Ei väärä todistaja pidä pääsemän rankaisematta; joka rohkiasti valehtelee, ei hänen pidä selkeemän.
A false witness shall not be held innocent, and he that uttereth lies shall not escape.
6 Moni rukoilee päämiestä, ja jokainen on hänen ystävänsä, joka lahjoja jakaa.
Many court the favour of a noble; and every one is friend to a man that giveth.
7 Köyhää vihaavat kaikki hänen veljensä, ja hänen ystävänsä vetäytyvät taamma hänestä; ja joka sanoihin luottaa, ei hän saa mitään.
All the brethren of a poor [man] hate him; how much more do his friends go far from him: he pursueth [them] with words, — they are not [to be found].
8 Joka viisas on, hän rakastaa henkeänsä, ja joka toimellinen on, se löytää hyvän.
He that getteth sense loveth his own soul; he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
9 Väärä todistaja ei pidä pääsemän rankaisematta; ja joka rohkiasti valehtelee, se kadotetaan.
A false witness shall not be held innocent, and he that uttereth lies shall perish.
10 Ei hullulle sovi hyvät päivät, paljoa vähemmin palvelian päämiehiä hallita.
Good living beseemeth not a fool; how much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11 Joka on kärsivällinen, se on toimellinen ihminen; ja se on hänelle kunniaksi, että hän viat välttää.
The discretion of a man maketh him slow to anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12 Kuninkaan viha on niinkuin nuoren jalopeuran kiljuminen; mutta hänen ystävyytensä on niinkuin kaste ruoholle.
The king's displeasure is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
13 Hullu poika on isänsä murhe, ja riitainen vaimo on niinkuin alinomainen pisaroitseminen.
A foolish son is the calamity of his father; and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14 Huoneet ja tavarat peritään vanhemmilta, vaan toimellinen emäntä tulee Herralta.
House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers; but a prudent wife is from Jehovah.
15 Laiskuus tuo unen, ja joutilas sielu kärsii nälkää.
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep, and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16 Joka käskyt pitää, hän on vapahtanut henkensä; vaan joka tiensä hylkää, hänen pitää kuoleman.
He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his soul; he that is careless of his ways shall die.
17 Jöka köyhää armahtaa, hän lainaa Herralle, joka hänen hyvän työnsä hänelle jälleen maksava on.
He that is gracious to the poor lendeth unto Jehovah; and what he hath bestowed will he repay unto him.
18 Kurita lastas, koska vielä toivo on; mutta älä pyydä häntä tappaa;
Chasten thy son, seeing there is hope; but set not thy soul upon killing him.
19 Sillä suuri julmuus saattaa vahingon: sentähden laske vallallensa, ja kurita häntä toistamiseen.
A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment; for if thou deliver [him], yet thou must do it again.
20 Kuule neuvoa ja ota kuritus vastaan, tullakses vihdoinkin viisaaksi.
Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
21 Monet aivoitukset oavt miehen sydämessä; mutta Herran neuvo on pysyväinen.
Many are the thoughts in a man's heart, but the counsel of Jehovah, that doth stand.
22 Ihmiselle kelpaa hänen laupeutensa, ja köyhä mies on parempi kuin valehtelia.
The charm of a man is his kindness; and a poor [man] is better than a liar.
23 Herran pelko saattaa elämän, ja se pysyy ravittuna, ettei mikään paha häntä lähesty.
The fear of Jehovah [tendeth] to life, and he [that hath it] shall rest satisfied without being visited with evil.
24 Laiska kätkee kätensä poveensa, ja ei vie sitä jälleen suuhunsa.
A sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, and will not even bring it to his mouth again.
25 Jos pilkkaajaa lyödään, niin taitamatoin tulee viisaaksi; ja jos toimellista lyödään, niin hän tulee toimelliseksi.
Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware; reprove the intelligent, and he will understand knowledge.
26 Joka vaivaa isäänsä, ja ajaa ulos äitinsä, hän on häpeemätöin ja kirottu lapsi.
He that ruineth [his] father and chaseth away [his] mother is a son that causeth shame and bringeth reproach.
27 Lakkaa poikani, kuuntelemasta sitä neuvoa, joka sinua viettelee pois toimellisesta opista.
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction which causeth to stray from the words of knowledge.
28 Väärä todistus häpäisee tuomion, ja jumalattomain suu nielee vääryyden.
A witness of Belial scorneth judgment, and the mouth of the wicked swalloweth down iniquity.
29 Pilkkaajille on rangaistus valmistettu, ja haavat hulluin selkään.
Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of the foolish.
