1 Azɔ la, Filistitɔwo ƒo woƒe aʋakɔ nu ƒu hena aʋawɔwɔ eye wova ƒo ƒu ɖe Soko le Yuda. Woƒu asaɖa anyi ɖe Efes Damim le Soko kple Azeka dome.
Now the Philistines gathered their armies together to battle. And they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.
2 Saul kple Israelviwo hã ƒo ƒu, woƒu asaɖa anyi ɖe Ela balime eye wodze aʋalɔgowo ɖe Filistitɔwo ŋu.
And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and encamped in the vale of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
3 Ale Filistitɔwo kple Israelviwo nɔ to eve dzi dze ŋgɔ wo nɔewo eye balime la tso wo dome.
And the Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side, and there was a valley between them.
4 Aʋakalẽtɔ aɖe si ŋkɔe nye Goliat, ame si tso Gat do go tso Filistitɔwo ƒe asaɖa me. Ŋutsu sia ƒe kɔkɔme anɔ mita etɔ̃.
And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
5 Eɖɔ akɔbligakuku eye wòkpla akpoxɔnu si wowɔ kple akɔbli si ƒe kpekpeme nye kilogram blaatɔ̃-vɔ-adre.
And he had a helmet of brass upon his head, and he was clad with a coat of mail. And the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
6 Edo akpoxɔnu si wowɔ kple akɔbli la ɖe afɔ eye wòlé akɔbli ƒe akplɔ didi aɖe ɖe abɔta.
And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a javelin of brass between his shoulders.
7 Eƒe akplɔti le abe abaladoti ene eye wowɔ akplɔ si le enu la kple gayibɔ si ƒe kpekpeme anye kilogram adre. Eƒe akpoxɔnutsɔla nɔ eŋgɔ.
And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. And his shield-bearer went before him.
8 Goliat tsi tsitre eye wòdo ɣli ɖo ɖe Israelviwo ƒe aʋalɔgowo be, “Nu ka ŋutie miedo go va ɖo fli hena aʋawɔwɔ? Ɖe menye Filistitɔe menye eye miawo hã míenye Saul ƒe dɔlawo oa? Mitia ŋutsu ɖeka eye miana wòava do gom le balia me
And he stood and cried out to the armies of Israel, and said to them, Why have ye come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? Choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.
9 Ne ete ŋu wɔ aʋa kplim eye wòwum la, míanye miaƒe subɔlawo, gake ne meɖu edzi eye mewui la, ekema miawo hã miazu míaƒe subɔlawo.”
If he is able to fight with me, and kill me, then we will be your servants, but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then ye shall be our servants, and serve us.
10 Tete Filistitɔ la yi edzi be, “Egbe meɖe alɔme le Israel ƒe aʋalɔgoawo ŋu! Miɖe ŋutsu ɖeka nam ne nye kplii míawɔ aʋa.”
And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together.
11 Esi Saul kple Israel blibo la se nya siwo Filistitɔ la gblɔ la, dzi ɖe le wo ƒo eye vɔvɔ̃ ɖo wo ŋutɔ.
And when Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
12 Azɔ la, David nye Efraimtɔ, Yese ƒe viŋutsu, ame si tso Betlehem le Yuda. Viŋutsu enyi nɔ Yese si eye Saul ƒe fiaɖuɣi me la, enye ametsitsi si xɔ ƒe geɖe.
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem-judah, whose name was Jesse. And he had eight sons, and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken in years among men.
13 Yese viŋutsu tsitsitɔ etɔ̃ kplɔ Saul ɖo yi aʋa. Gbãtɔ ŋkɔe nye Eliab, evelia ŋkɔe nye Abinadab eye etɔ̃lia ŋkɔe nye Sama.
And the three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle. And the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
14 David nye viŋutsuvi suetɔ. Esime nɔvia tsitsitɔ etɔ̃awo nɔ Saul ƒe aʋakɔ la me la,
And David was the youngest, and the three eldest followed Saul.
15 David dzona le Saul gbɔ enuenu heyina Betlehem ɖakpɔa fofoa ƒe alẽwo dzi.
Now David went to and fro from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.
16 Goliat, Filistitɔwo ƒe ame dzɔatsu la tsia tsitre ɖe Israelʋakɔ la ŋkume geditɔe ŋdi kple fiẽ ŋkeke blaene sɔŋ.
And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
17 Azɔ la, Yese gblɔ na Via ŋutsu David be, “Tsɔ bli tɔtɔe agba ɖeka sia, si de kilogram wuiade kple abolo ewo siawo eye nàɖe abla atsɔ wo ayi na nɔviwòwo le woƒe asaɖa la me.
And Jesse said to David his son, Take now for thy brothers an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to thy brothers.
18 Tsɔ notsi babla lalã ewo yi na woƒe aʋalɔgoa ƒe amegã, bia nɔviwòwo ƒe agbe ta se eye nàxɔ gbe tso wo gbɔ vɛ nam.
And bring these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand. And look how thy brothers fare, and take their pledge.
19 Wole Saul kple Israel ŋutsuwo dome le Ela balime me le aʋa wɔm kple Filistitɔwo.”
Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
20 David fɔ ŋdi kanya, tsɔ alẽawo de asi na alẽkplɔvi ɖeka. Edo agba eye wòdze mɔ abe ale si Yese ɖo nɛ ene. Eɖo asaɖa la me esi asrafoawo bɔ asaɖa le aʋaɣli dom yina ɖe woƒe nɔƒewo.
And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went as Jesse had commanded him. And he came to the place of the wagons as the army which was going forth to the fight shouted for the battle.
21 Israelviwo kple Filistitɔwo nɔ woƒe aʋalɔgowo me hedze ŋgɔ wo nɔewo.
And Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.
22 David gblẽ eƒe nuwo ɖe aʋawɔnuwo dzikpɔla gbɔ heƒu du yi ɖe aʋaŋgɔ eye wòdo gbe na nɔviawo.
And David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, and came and saluted his brothers.
23 Esi wònɔ nu ƒom kple nɔviawo la, Goliat, Filistitɔwo ƒe aʋakalẽ si tso Gat la do go ɖe ŋgɔgbe le eƒe aʋakɔwo ŋgɔ eye wòdo ɣli gblɔ alɔmeɖenya ma ke. David see.
And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words, and David heard them.
24 Esi Israelviwo kpɔe ko la, vɔvɔ̃ ɖo wo eye wode asi sisi me.
And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were greatly afraid.
25 Azɔ la, Israelviwo nɔ gbɔgblɔm be, “Miekpɔ ale si ŋutsu sia le dodom ɖe ŋgɔ edziedzia? Edona be yeaɖe alɔme le Israel ŋu. Fia la ana kesinɔnu gã aɖe ame si awui, woatsɔ via nyɔnuvi hã nɛ wòaɖe eye woana be fofoa ƒe ƒometɔwo magaxe duga le Israel o.”
And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man who has come up? Surely to defy Israel he has come up. And it shall be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.
26 David bia ŋutsu siwo nɔ tsitre ɖe egbɔ la be, “Nu kae woawɔ na ŋutsu si awu Filistitɔ sia ahaɖe ŋukpe sia ɖa le Israel ŋu? Ame kae nye Filistitɔ, bolotɔ sia, be wòanɔ alɔme ɖem le Mawu gbagbe la ƒe aʋalɔgowo ŋu?”
And David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine, and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?
27 Woawo hã gagblɔ nya siwo wogblɔ tsã va yi. Wogblɔ nɛ be, “Nu siae woawɔ na ame si awui.”
And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that kills him.
28 Esi Eliab, David nɔviŋutsu tsitsitɔ see wònɔ nu ƒom kple ŋutsuawo la, etrɔ ɖe eŋu kple dziku hebiae be, “Nu ka tae nèva afi sia ɖo? Eye ame ka gbɔe nègblẽ alẽ ʋɛawo ɖo le gbea dzi? Menya dada si le mewò kple dzi vɔ̃ɖi si le mewò. Ɖe ko nèva afi sia be yeava kpɔ aʋa la teƒe.”
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why have thou come down? And with whom have thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the mischief of thy heart, for thou have come down that thou might see the battle.
29 David biae be, “Azɔ la agɔ kae medze? Nyemekpɔ mɔ aƒo nu tete oa?”
And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?
30 David zɔ yi ame bubu gbɔ, bia nya ma kee eye wòna ŋuɖoɖo ma kee abe tsãtɔ ene.
And he turned away from him toward another, and spoke after the same manner, and the people answered him again after the former manner.
31 Wose nya si David gblɔ eye woyi ɖagblɔe na Saul. Tete Saul dɔ ame ɖa woɖayɔe va egbɔe.
And when the words were heard which David spoke, they repeated them before Saul, and he sent for him.
32 David gblɔ na Saul be, “Dzi megaɖe le ame aɖeke ƒo le Filistitɔ sia ta o. Wò dɔla ayi aɖawɔ aʋa kplii.”
And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him. Thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
33 Saul ɖo eŋu nɛ be, “Màte ŋu ayi ado go kple Filistitɔ sia, awɔ aʋa kplii o. Wò la ɖevi ko nènye ke eya le aʋa wɔm tso eƒe ɖekakpuime ke.”
And Saul said to David, Thou are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for thou are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
34 Gake David gblɔ na Saul be, “Wò dɔla nɔ fofoa ƒe alẽwo kplɔm. Ne dzata alo sisiblisi va eye wòlé alẽ le alẽha la me la,
And David said to Saul, Thy servant was keeping his father's sheep, and when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock,
35 metia eyome ƒonɛ ƒua anyi heɖea alẽ la le eƒe nu me. Ke ne etrɔ ɖe ŋutinye la, meléa eƒe kɔdza ƒonɛ kple kpo hewunɛ.
I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth. And when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and killed him.
36 Wò dɔla wu dzata kple sisiblisi eya ta anɔ na Filistitɔ bolotɔ sia hã abe woawo ke ene elabena eɖe alɔme le Mawu gbagbe la ƒe aʋalɔgowo ŋu.
Thy servant smote both the lion and the bear, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.
37 Yehowa, ame si ɖeam tso dzata kple sisiblisi ƒe fewo kple aɖuwo me la, kee aɖem tso Filistitɔ sia hã si me!”
And David said, Jehovah who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and Jehovah shall be with thee.
38 Ale Saul tsɔ eya ŋutɔ ƒe aʋawɔwu si ŋu akpoxɔnuwo le la do nɛ eye wòtsɔ kuku si wowɔ kple akɔbli la ɖɔ ɖe ta nɛ.
And Saul clad David with his apparel, and he put a helmet of brass upon his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.
39 David do gawu la, ɖɔ akɔblikuku la eye wòta yi ɖe gawu la dzi. Eɖe afɔ ɖeka, eve be yeate zɔzɔ le awuawo me kpɔ elabena medo wo kpɔ o. Egblɔ na Saul be, “Nyemate ŋu ayi kple nu siawo o elabena wo dodo memam o.” Ale David ɖe nuawo da ɖi eye wòdze mɔ.
And David girded his sword upon his apparel, and he attempted to go, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, I cannot go with these, for I have not tested them. And David put them off of him.
40 Tete wòtsɔ eƒe atizɔti ɖe asi eye wotia kpe zɔzrɔ̃e atɔ̃ tso tɔʋu la me hetsɔ wo de alẽkplɔlawo ƒe akplo me eye wòtsɔ eƒe aŋetu ɖe asi hezɔ ɖe Filistitɔ la dzi.
And he took his staff in his hand, and chose for him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd's bag which he had, even in his wallet. And his sling was in his hand, and he drew near to the Philistine.
41 Goliat, Filistitɔ la zɔ ɖo ta David gbɔ, eƒe akpoxɔnutsɔla nɔ ŋgɔ nɛ.
And the Philistine came on and drew near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him.
42 Ekpɔ David ɖa eye wòkpɔ be ɖevi dzaa aɖe ko wònye, ele kpokploe eye wòdze ɖeka, eya ta wòdo vloe.
And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him, for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
43 Goliat do ɣli bia David be, “Avue menye hafi nètsɔ kpo ɖe ŋunyea?” Eyɔ woƒe mawuwo ƒe ŋkɔwo tsɔ ƒo fi de David.
And the Philistine said to David, Am I a dog, that thou come to me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 Eyi edzi gblɔ be. “Te va afi sia eye matsɔ wò lã ana dziƒoxeviwo kple gbemelãwo!”
And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh to the birds of the heavens, and to the beasts of the field.
45 David do ɣli gblɔ na Filistitɔ la be, “Wò la, ègbɔna gbɔnye kple yi, akplɔ nuevee kple akplɔ nuɖekɛ, gake nye la, megbɔna gbɔwò le Yehowa, Dziƒoʋakɔwo ƒe Aƒetɔ, Israel ƒe Aʋakɔwo ƒe Mawu la ame si ŋu nèɖe alɔme le la ƒe ŋkɔ me.
Then David said to the Philistine, Thou come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin, but I come to thee in the name of Jehovah of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou have defied.
46 Egbe la, Yehowa atsɔ wò ade asi nam, maƒo wò aƒu anyi, atso ta le nuwò. Egbe la, matsɔ Filistitɔwo ƒe aʋakɔwo ƒe kukua ana dziƒoxeviwo kple anyigbadzilãwo, ekema xexea me katã anyae be Mawu aɖe le Israel.
This day Jehovah will deliver thee into my hand, and I will smite thee, and take thy head from off thee. And I will give the dead bodies of the armies of the Philistines this day to the birds of the heavens, and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,
47 Ale ame siwo katã ƒo ƒu ɖe afi sia la woanyae be menye yi alo akplɔ Yehowa tsɔna ɖea ame o, elabena aʋa la nye Yehowa tɔ eye wòatsɔ mi katã ade mía si me.”
and that all this assembly may know that Jehovah saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is Jehovah's, and he will give you into our hand.
48 Esi Filistitɔ la gbɔna be yeadze David dzi la, David zɔ kaba yi be yeakpe aʋa kplii.
And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
49 Eƒo asi ɖe eƒe alẽkplɔgolo la me, tsɔ kpe ɖeka de eƒe aŋetu la me eye wòdae. Kpe la dze Goliat, Filistitɔ la ƒe ŋgonu sesĩe eye wòŋɔe ge ɖe eme. Goliat mu dze anyi gbloo hetsyɔ mo anyi.
And David put his hand in his bag, and took from there a stone, and slung it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead. And the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell upon his face to the earth.
50 Ale David ɖu Filistitɔ la dzi kple aŋetu kple kpe ɖeka, yi menɔ esi o gake ekpe le Filistitɔ la dzi eye wòwui.
So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David.
51 David ƒu du yi ɖe Filistitɔ la gbɔ, eɖe Goliat ŋutɔ ƒe yi le aku me eye wòwui hetso ta le enu. Esi Filistitɔwo kpɔ be yewoƒe kalẽtɔ la ku la, wotrɔ megbe eye wosi dzo.
Then David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath of it, and killed him, and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
52 Tete Israel kple Yuda ŋutsuwo lũ ɖe eme kple ɣli eye woti Filistitɔwo yome va se ɖe Gat kple Ekron ƒe agbowo nu. Filistitɔwo ƒe kukuawo kaka ɖe Saaraim kple Gat mɔ dzi va se ɖe Ekron ke.
And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines until thou come to Gai, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath, and to Ekron.
53 Israelviwo trɔ le Filistitɔwo yome eye wova ha nuwo le woƒe asaɖa me.
And the sons of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.
54 David tsɔ Filistitɔ la ƒe ta eye wòtsɔe yi Yerusalem ke etsɔ Filistitɔ la ƒe aʋawɔnuwo da ɖe eya ŋutɔ ƒe agbadɔ me.
And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his armor in his tent.
55 Esi Saul kpɔ David wòyina aʋa wɔ ge kple Goliat la, ebia Abner, eƒe aʋafia be, “Abner, ame kae nye ɖekakpui sia fofo?” Abner ɖo eŋu be, “O fia, meta wò agbe. Nyemenya o.”
And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul lives, O king, I cannot tell.
56 Fia Saul gblɔ nɛ be, “Bia ame si ɖekakpui sia fofo nye la ta nam.”
And the king said, Inquire thou whose son the stripling is.
57 Esi David trɔ tso Filistitɔ la wuƒe gbɔ teti ko la Abner kplɔe va Fia Saul gbɔe le esime Filistitɔ la ƒe ta ganɔ David si ko.
And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
58 Saul bia David be, “Ɖekakpui, ame ka vie nenye?” David ɖo eŋu be, “Wò dɔla, Yese, si tso Betlehem la vie menye.”
And Saul said to him, Whose son are thou, young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.
