Acts 12
1 And about that time, Herod the king put forth his hands, to do evil to certain of those of the assembly,
Vers ce temps-là, le roi Hérode fit arrêter quelques-uns des membres de l'église, pour les maltraiter.
2 and he killed James, the brother of John, with the sword,
Il fit mourir par le glaive Jacques, le frère de Jean,
3 and having seen that it is pleasing to the Jews, he added to lay hold of Peter also — and they were the days of the unleavened food —
et voyant que cela était agréable aux Juifs, il fit encore prendre Pierre. On était aux jours des pains sans levain.
4 whom also having seized, he did put in prison, having delivered [him] to four quaternions of soldiers to guard him, intending after the passover to bring him forth to the people.
L'ayant aussi arrêté, il le fit mettre en prison, et le confia à la garde de quatre escouades de quatre soldats chacune, dans l'intention de le faire exécuter devant le peuple, après Pâque.
5 Peter, therefore, indeed, was kept in the prison, and fervent prayer was being made by the assembly unto God for him,
Pierre était donc gardé dans la prison, et l'église ne cessait de prier Dieu pour lui.
6 and when Herod was about to bring him forth, the same night was Peter sleeping between two soldiers, having been bound with two chains, guards also before the door were keeping the prison,
La nuit même qui précéda le jour où Hérode devait le faire exécuter, Pierre, lié de deux chaînes, dormait entre deux soldats, pendant que des sentinelles faisaient la garde devant les portes de la prison.
7 and lo, a messenger of the Lord stood by, and a light shone in the buildings, and having smitten Peter on the side, he raised him up, saying, 'Rise in haste,' and his chains fell from off [his] hands.
Tout à coup un ange du Seigneur apparut, et une lumière resplendit dans le cachot. L'ange poussant Pierre par le côté, l'éveilla, et lui dit: «Lève-toi promptement; » et les chaînes tombèrent de ses mains.
8 The messenger also said to him, 'Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals;' and he did so; and he saith to him, 'Put thy garment round and be following me;'
L'ange lui dit: «Ceins-toi, et chausse tes sandales.» Pierre obéit. L'ange ajouta: «Mets ton manteau, et suis-moi; »
9 and having gone forth, he was following him, and he knew not that it is true that which is done through the messenger, and was thinking he saw a vision,
et Pierre sortit du cachot et le suivit, sans savoir que ce que faisait l’ange fût réel: il croyait avoir une vision.
10 and having passed through a first ward, and a second, they came unto the iron gate that is leading to the city, which of its own accord did open to them, and having gone forth, they went on through one street, and immediately the messenger departed from him.
Lorsqu'ils eurent passé la première garde et la seconde, ils arrivèrent à la porte de fer qui donne sur la ville; elle s'ouvrit d'elle-même devant eux, et, étant sortis, ils s'engagèrent dans une rue. Aussitôt l'ange le quitta.
11 And Peter having come to himself, said, 'Now I have known of a truth that the Lord did sent forth His messenger, and did deliver me out of the hand of Herod, and all the expectation of the people of the Jews;'
Pierre étant revenu à lui-même, se dit: «Je vois maintenant que le Seigneur a réellement envoyé son ange, et m'a délivré de la main d'Hérode et de tout ce qu'attendait le peuple juif; »
12 also, having considered, he came unto the house of Mary, the mother of John, who is surnamed Mark, where there were many thronged together and praying.
puis, après un moment de réflexion, il se rendit à la maison de Marie, mère de Jean surnommé Marc, où un assez grand nombre de personnes s'étaient réunies et priaient.
13 And Peter having knocked at the door of the porch, there came a damsel to hearken, by name Rhoda,
Il heurta à la porte d'entrée; une servante nommée Rhode, vint répondre,
14 and having known the voice of Peter, from the joy she did not open the porch, but having run in, told of the standing of Peter before the porch,
et, ayant reconnu la voix de Pierre, dans sa joie, elle ne lui ouvrit point, mais courut annoncer que Pierre était à la porte.
15 and they said unto her, 'Thou art mad;' and she was confidently affirming [it] to be so, and they said, 'It is his messenger;'
Ils lui dirent: «Tu es folle.» Mais elle soutenait que c'était vrai; et eux disaient: «C'est son ange.»
16 and Peter was continuing knocking, and having opened, they saw him, and were astonished,
Cependant Pierre continuait à heurter. Ils ouvrirent, et, en le voyant, ils furent tout surpris.
17 and having beckoned to them with the hand to be silent, he declared to them how the Lord brought him out of the prison, and he said, 'Declare to James and to the brethren these things;' and having gone forth, he went on to another place.
Alors, ayant fait signe de la main de faire silence, il leur raconta comment le Seigneur l'avait tiré de la prison, et ajouta: «Faites-le savoir à Jacques et aux frères; » puis il sortit, et s'en alla dans un autre lieu.
18 And day having come, there was not a little stir among the soldiers what then was become of Peter,
Quand il fit jour, les soldats furent dans une grande agitation, pour savoir ce que Pierre était devenu.
19 and Herod having sought for him, and not having found, having examined the guards, did command [them] to be led away to punishment, and having gone down from Judea to Caesarea, he was abiding [there].
Hérode, ayant fait des perquisitions, et n'ayant pu le trouver, procéda à l'interrogatoire des gardes, et les fit conduire au supplice. Puis il descendit de Judée à Césarée, où il s'arrêta.
20 And Herod was highly displeased with the Tyrians and Sidonians, and with one accord they came unto him, and having made a friend of Blastus, who [is] over the bed-chambers of the king, they were asking peace, because of their country being nourished from the king's;
Il était en hostilité avec les Tyriens et les Sidoniens. Ceux-ci se rendirent ensemble auprès de lui, et, ayant gagné Blaste, chambellan du roi, ils lui demandèrent la paix, parce que leur pays tirait sa subsistance de celui du roi.
21 and on a set day, Herod having arrayed himself in kingly apparel, and having sat down upon the tribunal, was making an oration unto them,
Le jour même de l’audience, Hérode, revêtu de ses habits royaux et assis dans sa tribune, les haranguait,
22 and the populace were shouting, 'The voice of a god, and not of a man;'
et le peuple s'écria: «Voix d'un dieu, et non d'un homme!»
23 and presently there smote him a messenger of the Lord, because he did not give the glory to God, and having been eaten of worms, he expired.
Soudain, un ange du Seigneur le frappa, parce qu'il n'avait pas donné gloire à Dieu; et il expira rongé des vers.
24 And the word of God did grow and did multiply,
Cependant la parole de Dieu faisait des progrès, et le nombre des croyants se multipliait.
25 and Barnabas and Saul did turn back out of Jerusalem, having fulfilled the ministration, having taken also with [them] John, who was surnamed Mark.
Après avoir rempli leur mission, Barnabas et Saul quittèrent Jérusalem et s'en retournèrent, emmenant avec eux Jean surnommé Marc.
