Numbers 21
1 And whanne Chananei, the kyng of Arad, that dwellide at the south, hadde herd this, that is, that Israel cam bi the weye of aspieris, he fauyt ayens hem; and Chananei was ouercomere and ledde pray of Israel.
Khi Vua A-rát, người Ca-na-an, ở Nê-ghép, nghe tin người Ít-ra-ên kéo đến theo lối A-tha-rim, liền đem quân ra đánh, bắt được mấy người làm tù binh.
2 And Israel bounde hym sylf bi avow to the Lord, and seide, If thou schalt bitake this puple in myn hond, Y schal do awei `the citees therof.
Lúc ấy, người Ít-ra-ên thề nguyện với Chúa Hằng Hữu rằng: “Nếu Ngài cho chúng tôi chiến thắng dân này, chúng tôi xin tiêu diệt tất cả thành của họ.”
3 And the Lord herde the preieris of Israel, and bitook the Chananey; and Israel killid hym, and distruyede hise citees; and clepide the name of that place Horma, that is, cursyng, `ethir hangyng up.
Chúa Hằng Hữu nghe lời ngươi Ít-ra-ên cầu nguyện nên cho họ thắng quân Ca-na-an. Người Ít-ra-ên tận diệt quân thù, tàn phá các thành, và đặt tên vùng này là Họt-ma.
4 `Forsothe thei yeden forth also fro the hil of Hor, bi the weie that ledith to the reed see, that thei schulden cumpasse the lond of Edom; and it bigan to anoye the puple, of the weie and trauel.
Từ Núi Hô-rơ, họ phải quay lại Biển Đỏ, đi vòng quanh để tránh đất Ê-đôm, vì thế, họ cảm thấy rất chán nản.
5 And the puple spak ayens the Lord and Moises, and seide, Whi leddist thou vs out of Egipt, that we schulden die in wildirnesse? breed failith, watris ben not; oure soule wlatith now on this `meete moost liyt.
Họ lại xúc phạm Đức Chúa Trời và cằn nhằn với Môi-se: “Vì sao ông đem chúng tôi ra khỏi Ai Cập để chết trong hoang mạc này? Chúng tôi chẳng có nước uống, chẳng có gì ăn ngoài loại bánh đạm bạc chán ngấy này!”
6 Wherfor the Lord sente `firid serpentis in to the puple; at the woundis of whiche serpentis, and the dethis of ful many men,
Chúa Hằng Hữu sai rắn lửa đến, cắn nhiều người chết.
7 thei camen to Moyses, and seiden, We synneden, for we spaken ayens the Lord and thee; preie thou, that he take awey fro vs the serpentis.
Người ta chạy đến với Môi-se nói: “Chúng tôi có tội, vì đã nói xúc phạm đến Chúa Hằng Hữu và ông. Xin ông cầu với Chúa Hằng Hữu để Ngài đuổi rắn đi.” Môi-se cầu thay cho dân chúng.
8 And Moises preiede for the puple; and the Lord seide to hym, Make thou a serpent of bras, and sette thou it for a signe; he that is smytun and biholdith it, schal lyue.
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Môi-se: “Con làm một con rắn lửa, treo trên một cây sào. Người nào bị rắn cắn chỉ cần nhìn nó là được sống.”
9 Therfor Moyses made a serpent of bras, and settide for a signe; and men smytun and biholdynge it, weren heelid.
Vậy Môi-se làm một con rắn bằng đồng, treo trên một cây sào. Hễ ai bị rắn cắn nhìn lên con rắn đồng, liền được thoát chết.
10 And the sones of Israel yeden forth,
Người Ít-ra-ên tiếp tục lên đường, và dừng chân cắm trại tại Ô-bốt.
11 and settiden tentis in Oboth; fro whennus thei yeden forth, and settiden tentis in Neabarym, in the wildirnesse, that biholdith Moab, ayens the eest coost.
Từ Ô-bốt ra đi, họ cắm trại tại Y-giê A-ba-rim trong hoang mạc, về phía đông Mô-áp.
12 And thei moueden fro thennus, and camen to the stronde of Zareth;
Từ đó ra đi, họ cắm trại tại thung lũng Xê-rết.
13 which thei leften, and settiden tentis ayens Arnon, which is in the deseert, and apperith in the coostis of Amorrei. Forsothe Arnon is the terme of Moab, and departith Moabitis and Ammoreis.
Tiếp tục lên đường, họ dừng chân phía bên kia Sông Ạt-nôn, trong hoang mạc, gần biên giới Am-môn. Sông Ạt-nôn là biên giới giữa Mô-áp và A-mô-rít.
14 Wherfor it is seid in the book of batels of the Lord, As he dide in the reed see, so he schal do in the strondis of Arnon;
Vì thế, trong sách “Chiến Trận của Chúa Hằng Hữu” có nói đến Va-hép ở Su-pha và triền thung lũng của Sông Ạt-nôn,
15 the harde rochis of the strondis weren bowid, that tho schulen reste in Arnon, and schulden ligge in the coostis of Moabitis.
chạy dài đến đất A-rơ và biên giới Mô-áp.
16 Fro that place the pit apperide, of which the Lord spak to Moyses, Gadere thou the puple, and Y schal yyue watir to it.
Họ lại lên đường đi đến Bê-e (nghĩa là giếng nước). Tại giếng ấy, Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Môi-se: “Tập họp dân lại, Ta sẽ cho họ nước uống.”
17 Thanne Israel soong this song, The pit stie;
Và người Ít-ra-ên hát lên rằng: “Trào nước lên, giếng hỡi! Cho ta ca ngợi!
18 thei sungen togidere, The pit which the princes diggiden, and the duykis of the multitude maden redi, in the yyuere of the lawe, and in her stauys. And thei yeden forth fro the wildirnesse to Mathana,
Giếng vua khơi bằng cây phủ việt, quý tộc đào với gậy nơi tay.” Rồi họ ra khỏi hoang mạc, đi đến Ma-tha-na.
19 fro Mathana to Naaliel, fro Naaliel in to Bamoth;
Từ Ma-tha-na họ đến Na-ha-li-ên; từ Na-ha-li-ên đến Ba-mốt;
20 Bamoth is a valey in the cuntrey of Moab, in the cop of Phasga, that biholdith ayens the deseert.
từ Ba-mốt đến thung lũng ở trong địa phận Mô-áp; qua đỉnh núi Phích-ga—từ đó có thể nhìn thấy khắp hoang mạc.
21 Forsothe Israel sente messangeris to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, and seide,
Người Ít-ra-ên sai sứ nói với vua A-mô-rít là Si-hôn rằng:
22 Y biseche that it be leueful to me to passe thorou thi loond; we schulen not bowe in to the feeldis and vyneris; we schulen not drynke watris of pittis; we schulen go in the kyngis weie, til we passen thi termes.
“Xin cho chúng tôi đi qua đất vua. Chúng tôi chỉ theo đường cái của vua mà đi, không vào ruộng hay vườn nho, không uống nước giếng, cho đến khi ra khỏi lãnh thổ của vua.”
23 Which nolde graunte that Israel schulde passe thury hise coostis, but rather, whanne the oost was gaderid, he yede out ayens Israel, in to deseert. And he cam in to Yasa, and fauyt ayens Israel;
Nhưng Vua Si-hôn khước từ. Ông triệu tập quân đội, kéo ra đón người Ít-ra-ên trong hoang mạc, và tấn công họ tại Gia-hát.
24 of whom he was smytun in the scharpnesse of swerd, and his lond was weldid fro Arnon `til to Jeboth and `the sones of Amon; for the termes of Amonytis weren holdun bi strong help.
Người Ít-ra-ên chém Vua Si-hôn, chiếm lấy đất từ Ạt-nôn đến Gia-bốc, cho đến tận biên giới nước Am-môn, vì biên cương của Am-môn rất kiên cố.
25 Therfor Israel took alle `the citees of hym, and dwelliden in the citees of Amorrei, that is, in Esebon, and hise townes.
Ít-ra-ên chiếm hết các thành, làng mạc của người A-mô-rít cho dân mình ở, kể cả thành Hết-bôn.
26 The citee of Esebon was Seons, kyng of Ammorei, which Seon fauyt ayens the kyng of Moab, and took al the lond that was of his lordschip, `til to Arnon.
Hết-bôn là kinh đô của Si-hôn, vua A-mô-rít. Trước kia, Si-hôn đã đánh bại vua Mô-áp, chiếm đoạt hết đất của vua này cho đến sông Ạt-nôn.
27 Therfor it is seid in prouerbe, Come ye in to Esebon, be it bildid, and maad the citee of Seon;
Cho nên, một thi sĩ đã viết: “Ta kéo đến Hết-bôn! Xây thành của Si-hôn!
28 fier yede out of Esebon, flawme yede out of the citee `ethir greet castel of Seon, and deuouryde Ar of Moabitis, and the dwelleris of the `hiye places of Arnon.
Vì có lửa từ Hết-bôn, một ngọn lửa từ thành của Si-hôn. Thiêu đốt thành A-rơ của Mô-áp cháy rụi, là thành ngự trị trên dòng Ạt-nôn.
29 Moab, wo to thee! thou, puple of Chamos, perischidist; it yaf the sones therof in to fliyt, and the douytris in to caitifte to Seon, kyng of Ammoreis;
Thống khổ cho người Mô-áp! Ngày tàn của ngươi đã tới! Này, Kê-mốt hỡi! Con trai ngươi phải lưu lạc, con gái ngươi bị tù đày, bởi tay Si-hôn, vua người A-mô-rít.
30 the yok of hem perischide, fro Esebon `til to Dibon; the wery men camen in to Jophe, and `til to Medaba.
Lính ngươi bị bắn ngã, Hết-bôn bị hủy phá tàn tạ Đi-bôn, Nô-phách, Mê-đê-ba: Đều bị thiêu hủy cả.”
31 And so Israel dwellide in the lond of Ammorrey.
Trong khi Ít-ra-ên còn đóng quân trong đất của người A-mô-rít,
32 And Moises sente men that schulden aspie Jaser, whos `townes thei token, and weldiden the dwelleris.
Môi-se sai người đi trinh sát Gia-ê-xe. Rồi Ít-ra-ên chiếm hết các làng mạc miền Gia-ê-xe, trục xuất người A-mô-rít đi.
33 And thei turniden hem silf, and stieden bi the weie of Basan. And Og, the kyng of Basan, with al his puple cam ayens hem, to fiyte in Edray.
Sau đó, Ít-ra-ên quay lại đi lên hướng Ba-san. Vua Ba-san là Óc kéo toàn dân mình ra chận đón Ít-ra-ên tại Ết-rê-i.
34 And the Lord seide to Moises, Drede thou not hym, for Y haue bitake hym, and al his loond, and puple, in thin hoond; and thou schalt do to hym as thou didist to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, the dwellere of Esebon.
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Môi-se: “Đừng sợ vua ấy, vì Ta đặt số phận dân này vào tay con. Việc đã xảy ra cho Si-hôn, vua A-mô-rít, người cai trị Hết-bôn cũng sẽ xảy ra cho vua Ba-san.”
35 Therfor thei smytiden `bothe hym with hise sones and al his puple, `til to deeth; and thei weldiden `the lond of hym.
Ít-ra-ên giết Vua Óc, và các con vua, thần dân của vua, không để một ai sống sót, rồi chiếm đóng đất nước Ba-san.
