Numbers 13
1 And there the Lord spak to Moises,
El Señor le dijo a Moisés,
2 and seide, Sende thou men that schulen biholde the lond of Canaan, which Y schal yyue to the sones of Israel, of ech lynage o man of the princes.
“Envía algunos hombres a explorar la tierra de Canaán, el país que le doy a los israelitas. Escoge a uno de los líderes de cada una de las tribus para que vaya y haga esto”.
3 Moises dide that that the Lord comaundide, and sente fro the deseert of Pharan princes, men of whiche these ben the names.
Moisés hizo lo que el Señor le había ordenado y envió a los hombres desde el desierto de Parán. Todos ellos eran líderes de los israelitas.
4 Of the lynage of Ruben, Semmya, the sone of Zectur.
Sus nombres eran: Samúa hijo de Zacur, de la tribu de Rubén.
5 Of the lynage of Symeon, Saphat, the sone of Hury.
Safat, hijo de Hori, de la tribu de Simeón.
6 Of the lynage of Juda, Caleph, the sone of Jephone.
Caleb, hijo de Jefone, de la tribu de Judá.
7 Of the lynage of Isachar, Igal, the sone of Joseph.
Igal, hijo de José, de la tribu de Isacar.
8 Of the lynage of Effraym, Osee, the sone of Nun.
Oseas, hijo de Nun, de la tribu de Efraín.
9 Of the lynage of Beniamyn, Phalti, the sone of Raphu.
Palti hijo de Raphu, de la tribu de Benjamín.
10 Of the lynage of Zabulon, Gediel, the sone of Sodi.
Gaddiel, hijo de Sodi, de la tribu de Zabulón.
11 Of the lynage of Joseph, of the gouernaunce of Manasses, Gaddi, the sone of Susy.
Gaddi, hijo de Susi, de la tribu de Manasés (una tribu de José).
12 Of the lynage of Dan, Amyel, the sone of Gemalli.
Amiel, hijo de Gemalli, de la tribu de Dan.
13 Of the lynage of Aser, Sur, the sone of Mychael.
Sethur, hijo de Miguel, de la tribu de Aser.
14 Of the lynage of Neptalym, Nabdi, the sone of Napsi.
Nahbi, hijo de Vophsi, de la tribu de Neftalí.
15 Of the lynage of Gad, Guel, the sone of Machi.
Geuel, hijo de Machi, de la tribu de Gad.
16 These ben the names of men, which Moises sente to biholde the lond of Canaan; and he clepide Osee, the sone of Nun, Josue.
Estos eran los nombres de los hombres que Moisés envió a explorar el país. Moisés le puso por nombre Josué a Oseas.
17 Therfor Moises sente hem to biholde the lond of Canaan, and seide to hem, `Stie ye bi the south coost; and whanne ye comen to the hillis,
Moisés los envió a explorar la tierra de Canaán, diciéndoles: “Pasen por el Néguev y entren en las montañas.
18 biholde ye the lond, what maner lond it is; and biholde ye the puple which is the dwellere therof, whether it is strong, ethir feble, `whether thei ben fewe in noumbre, ether manye;
Vean cómo es el lugar, y averigüen acercade la gente que vive allí, ¿son fuertes o débiles? ¿Son muchos o pocos?
19 whether that lond is good, ethir yuel; what maner citees ben, wallid, ether without wallis;
¿La tierra donde viven es buena o mala? ¿Son sus ciudades como campos abiertos, o tienen muros defensivos?
20 whether the lond is fat, ether bareyn, `whether it is ful of woodis, ethir without trees. Be ye coumfortid, and `brynge ye to vs of the fruytis of that lond. Sotheli the tyme was, whanne grapis first ripe myyten be etun thanne.
¿Es el suelo productivo o no? ¿Es forestal? Sean valientes y traigan algunos de los frutos del país”. (Era el comienzo de la vendimia).
21 And whanne thei hadden stied, thei aspieden the lond, fro the deseert of Syn `til to Rohob, as men entryth to Emath.
Así que los hombres fueron y exploraron la tierra desde el desierto de Zin hasta Rejob, cerca de Lebó Jamat.
22 And thei stieden to the south, and camen in to Ebron, where Achyman, and Sisai, and Tholmai, the sones of Enach, weren; for Hebron was maad bi seuen yeer bifor Thamnys, the citee of Egipt.
Atravesaron el Néguev y llegaron a Hebrón donde vivían Ahiman, Seshai y Talmai, los descendientes de Anac. Esta ciudad fue construida siete años antes que la ciudad egipcia de Zoán.
23 And thei yeden til to the stronde of clustre, and kittiden doun a sioun with his grape, which twei men baren in a barre; also thei token of pumgarnadis, and of the figis of that place which is clepid Nehelescol,
Cuando llegaron al Valle de Escol cortaron una rama que tenía un solo racimo de uvas. Tenían que cargarla en un palo sostenido entre dos hombres. También recogieron algunas granadas e higos.
24 that is, the stronde of grape, for the sones of Israel baren a clustre fro thennus.
(El lugar fue llamado el Valle de Escol por el racimo de uvas que tomaron de allí).
25 And the aspieris of the lond, whanne thei hadden cumpassid al the cuntrey, after fourti daies camen to Moises and Aaron,
Cuarenta días después los hombres regresaron de explorar el país.
26 and to al the cumpany of the sones of Israel, in to the deseert of Pharan which is in Cades. And `the aspieris spaken to hem, and schewiden the fruytis of the lond to al the multitude, and telden,
Fueron a ver a Moisés y Aarón, y todos los israelitas se reunieron allí en su campamento en Cades, en el desierto de Parán. Dieron un informe ante todos y les mostraron los frutos que habían traído del país.
27 and seiden, We camen to the lond, to which thou sentest vs, which lond treuli flowith with mylk and hony, as it may be knowun bi these fruytis;
Este es el informe que dieron a Moisés: “Fuimos y exploramos el país al que nos enviaste, y es definitivamente muy productivo, como si fluyera leche y miel. ¡Miren algunas de sus frutas!
28 but it hath strongeste inhabiteris, and grete cytees, and wallid; we sien there the kynrede of Anachym; Amalech dwellith in the south;
Pero la gente que vive allí es fuerte, y sus pueblos son grandes y tienen muros defensivos. También vimos algunos descendientes de Anac allí.
29 Ethei, and Jebusei, and Amorey dwellen in the hilli placis; forsothe Cananey dwellith bisidis the see, and bisidis the floodis of Jordan.
Los amalecitas viven en el Néguev. Los hititas, jebuseos y amorreos viven en las colinas. Los cananeos viven en la costa del mar y también al lado del Jordán”.
30 Among thes thingis Caleph peeside the grutchyng of the puple, that was maad ayens Moises, and seide, `Stie we, and welde we the lond, for we moun gete it.
Entonces Caleb pidió silencio mientras la gente se paraba delante de Moisés y les decía: “Vamos a tomar la tierra. Podemos conquistar el país, ¡sin duda!”

32 And thei deprauyden the lond which thei hadden biholde, anentis the sones of Israel, and seiden, The lond which we cumpassiden deuourith hise dwelleris; the puple which we bihelden is of large stature; there we syen summe wondris ayens kynde,
difundieron un informe negativo entre los israelitas sobre el país que habían explorado. Le dijeron al pueblo: “El país que exploramos destruye a la gente que vive allí. Además todas las personas que vimos eran muy grandes!
33 of the sones of Enach, of the kynde of geauntis, to whiche we weren comparisound, and weren seien as locustis.
Incluso vimos gigantes allí, ¡son descendientes del gigante Anac! Comparados con ellos pareceríamos saltamontes, ¡y así debimos parecerles a ellos también!”
