Joshua 14

1 This `thing it is, which the sones of Israel weldiden in the lond of Canaan, which lond Eleazar the preest, and Josue, the sone of Nun, and the princes of meynees bi the lynagis of Israel yauen to hem,

Et c’est ici ce que les fils d’Israël ont reçu en héritage dans le pays de Canaan, ce qu’Éléazar, le sacrificateur, et Josué, fils de Nun, et les chefs des pères des tribus des fils d’Israël, leur distribuèrent en héritage:

2 and departiden alle thingis bi lot, as the Lord comaundide in the hond of Moises, to nyne lynagis and the half lynage.

leur héritage fut [distribué] par le sort, comme l’Éternel l’avait commandé par Moïse, aux neuf tribus et à la demi-tribu.

3 For Moises hadde youe to `the twey lynagis and to the half lynage `possessioun ouer Jordan; without the Leuytis, that token no thing of the lond among her britheren;

Car Moïse avait donné un héritage à deux tribus et à une demi-tribu, de l’autre côté du Jourdain; mais il n’avait pas donné d’héritage parmi eux aux Lévites.

4 but the sones of Joseph weren departid in to twei lynagis, of Manasses and of Effraym, and `weren eiris in to the place of hem. And `the Leuytis token noon other part in the lond, no but citees to dwelle, and the subarbis of tho to werke beestis and her scheep to be fed.

Car les fils de Joseph étaient deux tribus: Manassé et Éphraïm; et on ne donna point de part aux Lévites dans le pays, excepté les villes d’habitation, et leurs banlieues pour leurs troupeaux et pour leurs biens.

5 As the Lord comaundide to Moises, so the sones of Israel diden, and departiden the lond.

Les fils d’Israël firent comme l’Éternel l’avait commandé à Moïse, et ils partagèrent le pays.

6 And so the sones of Juda neiyiden to Josue in Galgalis; and Caleph, the sone of Jephone, of Ceneth, spak to him, Thou knowist, what the Lord spak to Moises, the man of God, of me and of thee in Cades Barne.

Et les fils de Juda s’approchèrent de Josué, à Guilgal; et Caleb, fils de Jephunné, le Kenizien, lui dit: Tu sais la parole que l’Éternel a dite, à mon sujet et à ton sujet, à Moïse, homme de Dieu, à Kadès-Barnéa.

7 Y was of fourti yeer, whanne Moises, `seruaunt of the Lord, sente me fro Cades Barne, that Y schulde biholde the lond, and Y teelde to hym that, that semyde soth to me.

J’étais âgé de 40 ans quand Moïse, serviteur de l’Éternel, m’envoya de Kadès-Barnéa pour explorer le pays, et je lui rapportai la chose comme elle était dans mon cœur.

8 Forsothe my britheren, thats tieden with me, discoumfortiden the herte of the puple, and neuertheles Y suede my Lord God.

Et mes frères qui étaient montés avec moi faisaient fondre le cœur du peuple; mais moi, je suivis pleinement l’Éternel, mon Dieu.

9 And Moises swoor in that dai, and seide, The lond, which thi foot trad, schal be thi possessioun, and of thi sones withouten ende; for thou suedist thi Lord God.

Et Moïse jura en ce jour-là, disant: Si le pays que ton pied a foulé n’est à toi pour héritage, et à tes fils, pour toujours! car tu as pleinement suivi l’Éternel, mon Dieu.

10 Sotheli the Lord grauntide lijf to me, as he bihiyte, `til in to present dai. Fourti yeer and fyue ben, sithen the Lord spak this word to Moises, whanne Israel yede bi the wildirnesse. To dai Y am of `foure scoor yeer and fyue,

Et maintenant, voici, comme il l’a dit, l’Éternel m’a conservé en vie ces 45 ans, depuis que l’Éternel a dit cette parole à Moïse, lorsque Israël marchait dans le désert; et maintenant, voici, moi je suis aujourd’hui âgé de 85 ans.

11 and Y am as myyti, as Y was myyti in that time, whanne Y was sent to aspie; the strengthe `of that tyme dwellith stabli in me `til to dai, as wel to fiyte, as to go.

Je suis encore aujourd’hui fort comme le jour où Moïse m’envoya; telle que ma force était alors, telle ma force est maintenant, pour la guerre, et pour sortir et entrer.

12 Therfor yyue thou to me this hil, which the Lord bihiyte to me, while also thou herdist, in which hil ben Enachym, and grete `citees, and strengthid; if in hap the Lord is with me, and Y mai do hem awei, as he bihiyte to me.

Et maintenant, donne-moi cette montagne dont l’Éternel a parlé en ce jour-là; car tu as entendu, en ce jour-là, que les Anakim y sont, et de grandes villes fortes; peut-être que l’Éternel sera avec moi, et je les déposséderai, comme l’Éternel a dit.

13 And Josue blesside hym, and yaf to hym Ebron in to possessioun.

Et Josué le bénit, et donna Hébron en héritage à Caleb, fils de Jephunné.

14 And fro that tyme Ebron was to Caleph, sone of Jephone, of Cenez, `til in to present dai; for he suede the Lord God of Israel.

C’est pourquoi Hébron appartient en héritage, jusqu’à ce jour, à Caleb, fils de Jephunné, le Kenizien, parce qu’il avait pleinement suivi l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël.

15 The name of Ebron was clepid bifore Cariatharbe. Adam, the gretteste, was set there in the lond of Enachym; and the lond ceesside fro batels.

Or le nom de Hébron était auparavant Kiriath-Arba; [Arba] était le grand homme parmi les Anakim. Et le pays se reposa de la guerre.
