Genesis 4
1 Forsothe Adam knewe Eue his wijf, which conseyuede, and childide Cayn, and seide, Y haue gete a man bi God.
Adán durmió con su esposa Eva y ella quedó embarazada. Y dio a luz a Caín, y dijo: “Con la ayuda de Dios he hecho a un hombre”.
2 And efte sche childide his brother Abel. Forsothe Abel was a kepere of scheep, and Cayn was an erthe tilyere.
Después dio a luz a su hermano Abel. Él se convirtió en un pastor de ovejas, mientras que Caín era un agricultor.
3 Sotheli it was don after many daies, that Cayn offride yiftis to the Lord of the fruytis of erthe;
Algún tiempo después, Caín trajo el fruto de su cosecha como ofrenda al Señor.
4 and Abel offride of the first gendrid of his floc, and of the fatnesse of tho. And the Lord bihelde to Abel and to the yiftis of hym;
Abel también trajo una ofrenda: el primogénito de su rebaño, eligiendo las mejores partes como ofrenda. El Señor se sintió agradado de Abel y su ofrenda,
5 sotheli he bihelde not to Cayn and to hise yiftis. And Cayn was wrooth greetli, and his cheer felde doun.
pero no se agradó de Caín ni de su ofrenda, lo cual enojó a Caín en gran manera y frunció el ceño con enfado.
6 And the Lord seide to hym, Whi art thou wrooth, and whi felde doun thi face?
Entonces el Señor le preguntó a Caín: “¿Por qué estás enojado? ¿Por qué te ves tan enfadado?
7 Whether not if thou schalt do wel, thou schalt resseyue; but if thou doist yuele, thi synne schal be present anoon in the yatis? but the desir therof schal be vndur thee, and thou schalt be lord therof.
Si hicieras lo correcto, lucirías contento. Pero si no haces lo correcto, el pecado será como animales agazapados en la puerta de tu casa, listos para atacarte. El pecado desea apoderarse de ti, pero tú debes mantener el control”.
8 And Cayn seide to Abel his brother, Go we out. And whanne thei weren in the feeld, Cayn roos ayens his brother Abel, and killide him.
Más tarde, mientras Caín hablaba con su hermano Abel, e iban por los campos, Caín atacó a su hermano y lo mató.
9 And the Lord seide to Cayn, Where is Abel thi brother? Which answerde, Y woot not; whether Y am the kepere of my brothir?
“¿Dónde está tu hermano Abel?” le preguntó el Señor a Caín. “¿Cómo podría saberlo?” respondió Caín. “¿Acaso se supone que debo ser el cuidador de mi hermano?”
10 And God seide to Cayn, What hast thou do? the vois of the blood of thi brother crieth to me fro erthe.
“¿Qué has hecho?” le preguntó el Señor. “La sangre de tu hermano clama a mi desde la tierra.
11 Now therfor thou schalt be cursid on erthe, that openyde his mouth, and resseyuede of thin hond the blood of thi brothir.
Por esto ahora estarás más maldito que la tierra, porque la has impregnado con la sangre de tu hermano.
12 Whanne thou schalt worche the erthe, it schal not yyue his fruytis to thee; thou schalt be vnstable of dwellyng and fleynge aboute on erthe in alle the daies of thi lijf.
Y cuando cultives la tierra, no producirá cosechas para ti. Siempre serás un prófugo, errando por toda la tierra”.
13 And Cayn seide to the Lord, My wickidnesse is more than that Y disserue foryyuenesse; lo!
“Mi castigo es más de lo que puedo soportar”, respondió Caín.
14 to dai thou castist me out fro the face of the erthe; and Y schal be hid fro thi face, and Y schal be vnstable of dwellyng and fleynge aboute in erthe; therfore ech man that schal fynde me schal slee me.
“¡Mira! Me expulsas en este instante, maldiciendo la tierra y echándome de tu presencia. Ahora tendré que esconderme y seré siempre un prófugo, errante por toda la tierra. ¡Y cualquiera que me encuentre me matará!”
15 And the Lord seide to hym, It schal not be don so, but ech man that schal slee Cayn shal be punyschid seuenfold. And the Lord settide a signe in Cayn, that ech man that schulde fynde hym schulde not slee hym.
Pero el Señor respondió: “No, Caín. Cualquiera que te mate será castigado siete veces más”. El Señor puso una marca sobre Caín para que ninguno lo matase.
16 And Cayn yede out fro the face of the Lord, and dwellide fleynge aboute in erthe, at the eest coost of Eden.
Así que Caín se fue de la presencia del Señor y se fue a vivir al país llamado Nod, al oriente de Edén.
17 Forsothe Cayn knewe his wiif, which conseyuede, and childide Enoth; and Cayn bildide a citee, and clepide the name therof of the name of hise sone Enoth.
Caín se acostó con su esposa y ella quedó embarazada. Y tuvo un hijo llamado Enoc. En ese tiempo Caín estaba construyendo una ciudad, y le puso el mismo nombre que su hijo Enoc.
18 Forsothe Enoth gendride Irad, and Irad gendride Manyael, and Manyael gendride Matusael, and Matusael gendride Lameth;
Enoc tuvo un hijo llamado Irad. E Irad fue el padre de Mejuyael, y luego Mejuyael fue el padre de Metusael, y Metusael fue el padre de Lamec.
19 that took twei wyues, the name to o wijf was Ada, and the name to the tother was Sella.
Lamec se casó con dos mujeres. La primera se llamaba Ada, y la segunda se llamaba Selá.
20 And Ada gendride Jabel, that was the fadir of dwellers in tentis and of shepherdis;
Ada tuvo un hijo llamado Jabal. Él fue el padre de los que viven en tiendas y tienen rebaños.
21 and the name of his brother was Tubal, he was the fadir of syngeris in harpe and orgun.
Él tuvo un hermano llamado Jubal. Y Jubal era el padre de todos los que tocan instrumentos de cuerda y de viento.
22 And Sella gendride Tubalcayn, that was an hamerbetere, and smyyt on alle werkis of bras and of yrun; forsothe the sistir of Tubalcayn was Neoma.
Selá también tuvo un hijo que se llamaba Tubal-Caín y era un herrero que forjaba toda clase de herramientas de hierro y bronce. La hermana de Tubal-Caín se llamaba Naamá.
23 And Lameth seide to his wyues Ada and Sella, Ye wyues of Lameth, here my vois, and herkne my word; for Y haue slayn a man bi my wounde, and a yong wexynge man bi my `violent betyng;
En cierta ocasión, Lamec le dijo a sus esposas: “Ada y Selá, escúchenme. Ustedes, esposas de Lamec, presten atención a lo que les voy a decir. Yo maté a un hombre y él me hirió. Maté a un hombre joven porque atentó contra mi.
24 veniaunce schal be youun seuenfold of Cayn, forsothe of Lameth seuentisithis seuensithis.
Si la sentencia por matar a Caín era de ser castigado siete veces más, entonces si alguien me mata a mí, el castigo debería ser setenta y siete veces más”.
25 Also yit Adam knewe his wijf, and sche childide a sone, and clepide his name Seth, and seide, God hath put to me another seed for Abel, whom Cayn killide.
Adán volvió a acostarse con su esposa otra vez, y tuvieron un hijo llamado Set, con la explicación: “Dios me ha dado otro hijo para tomar el lugar de Abel, el que mató Caín”.
26 But also a sone was borun to Seth, which sone he clepide Enos; this Enos bigan to clepe inwardli the name of the Lord.
Después Set tuvo un hijo llamado Enós, porque en ese tiempo las personas habían comenzado a adorar al Señor por su nombre.
