< Psalms 16 >
1 A Poem by David. Preserve me, God, for I take refuge in you.
“A Michtham of David.” Preserve me, O God; for I have placed my trust in thee.
2 My soul, you have said to Yahweh, “You are my Lord. Apart from you I have no good thing.”
[O my soul], thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord: my happiness is not without thee;
3 As for the saints who are in the earth, they are the excellent ones in whom is all my delight.
[But] in the saints who are on the earth, and in the excellent—in them is all my delight.
4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied who give gifts to another god. Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, nor take their names on my lips.
Multiplied shall be the sorrows of those who give presents to another god: I will not pour out their drink-offerings of blood, nor bear their names upon my lips.
5 Yahweh assigned my portion and my cup. You made my lot secure.
Thou, O Lord, art the portion of my inheritance, and my cup; thou hast drawn my lot.
6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Yes, I have a good inheritance.
My possessions are fallen in agreeable places: yea, my heritage is pleasant to me.
7 I will bless Yahweh, who has given me counsel. Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.
I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: also in the night seasons my reins admonish me.
8 I have set Yahweh always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
I have always set the Lord before me, that, being at my right hand, I might not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices. My body shall also dwell in safety.
Therefore is rejoiced my heart, and my spirit is glad: also my flesh shall rest in safety.
10 For you will not leave my soul in Sheol, neither will you allow your holy one to see corruption. (Sheol )
For thou wilt not abandon my soul to the grave: thou wilt not suffer thy pious [servant] to see corruption. (Sheol )
11 You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forever more.
Thou wilt let me know the path of life: fulness of joy is in thy presence; pleasures are at thy right hand for evermore.
