Proverbs 25
1 These [are] also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
Estes também são provérbios de Salomão, que foram copiados pelos homens de Ezequias, rei de Judá.
2 [It is] the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings [is] to search out a matter.
É glória de Deus encobrir alguma coisa; mas a glória dos Reis é investigá-la.
3 The heaven for hight, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings [is] unsearchable.
Para a altura dos céus, para a profundeza da terra, assim como para o coração dos reis, não há como serem investigados.
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
Tira as escórias da prata, e sairá um vaso para o fundidor.
5 Take away the wicked [from] before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
Tira o perverso de diante do rei, e seu trono se firmará com justiça.
6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great [men]:
Não honres a ti mesmo perante o rei, nem te ponhas no lugar dos grandes;
7 For better [it is] that it be said to thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldst be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thy eyes have seen.
Porque é melhor que te digam: Sobe aqui; Do que te rebaixem perante a face do príncipe, a quem teus olhos viram.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbor hath put thee to shame.
Não sejas apressado para entrar numa disputa; senão, o que farás se no fim teu próximo te envergonhar?
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbor [himself]; and reveal not a secret to another:
Disputa tua causa com teu próximo, mas não reveles segredo de outra pessoa.
10 Lest he that heareth [it] put thee to shame, and thy infamy turn not away.
Para que não te envergonhe aquele que ouvir; pois tua má fama não pode ser desfeita.
11 A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold in pictures of silver.
A palavra dita em tempo apropriado é [como] maçãs de ouro em bandejas de prata.
12 [As] an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
O sábio que repreende junto a um ouvido disposto a escutar é [como] pendentes de ouro e ornamentos de ouro refinado.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
Como frio de neve no tempo da colheita, [assim] é o mensageiro fiel para aqueles que o enviam; porque ele refresca a alma de seus senhores.
14 Whoever boasteth himself of a false gift [is like] clouds and wind without rain.
[Como] nuvens e ventos que não trazem chuva, [assim] é o homem que se orgulha de falsos presentes.
15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
Com paciência para não se irar é que se convence um líder; e a língua suave quebra ossos.
16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled with it, and vomit it.
Achaste mel? Come o que te for suficiente; para que não venhas a ficar cheio demais, e vomites.
17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbor's house; lest he be weary of thee, and [so] hate thee.
Não exagere teus pés na casa de teu próximo, para que ele não se canse de ti, e te odeie.
18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbor [is] a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
Martelo, espada e flecha afiada é o homem que fala falso testemunho contra seu próximo.
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble [is like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
Confiar num infiel no tempo de angústia é [como] um dente quebrado ou um pé sem firmeza.
20 [As] he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre; so [is] he that singeth songs to a heavy heart.
Quem canta canções ao coração aflito é como aquele que tira a roupa num dia frio, ou como vinagre sobre salitre.
21 If thy enemy shall hunger, give him bread to eat; and if he shall thirst, give him water to drink:
Se aquele que te odeia tiver fome, dá-lhe pão para comer; e se tiver sede, dá-lhe água para beber;
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD will reward thee.
Porque [assim] amontoarás brasas sobre a cabeça dele, e o SENHOR te recompensará.
23 The north wind driveth away rain: so [doth] an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
O vento norte traz a chuva; [assim como] a língua caluniadora [traz] a ira no rosto.
24 [It is] better to dwell in a corner of the house-top, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
É melhor morar num canto do terraço do que com uma mulher briguenta numa casa espaçosa.
25 [As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so [is] good news from a far country.
[Como] água refrescante para a alma cansada, assim são boas notícias de uma terra distante.
26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked [is as] a turbid fountain, and a corrupt spring.
O justo que se deixa levar pelo perverso é [como] uma fonte turva e um manancial poluído.
27 [It is] not good to eat much honey: so [for men] to search their own glory [is not] glory.
Comer muito mel não é bom; assim como buscar muita glória para si.
28 He that [hath] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is] broken down, [and] without walls.
O homem que não pode conter seu espírito é [como] uma cidade derrubada sem muro.
