< Job 41 >

1 Canst thou draw out leviathan with a hook? or his tongue with a cord [which] thou lettest down?
2 Canst thou put a hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
Ali lahko zatakneš kavelj v njegov nos? Ali njegovo čeljust prebodeš z [ribiško] ostjo.
3 Will he make many supplications to thee? will he speak soft [words] to thee?
Mar ti bo delal mnoge ponižne prošnje? Ti bo govoril nežne besede?
4 Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
Bo sklenil zavezo s teboj? Ga boš vzel za služabnika na veke?
5 Wilt thou play with him as [with] a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
Se boš igral z njim kakor s ptico? Ali ga hočeš zvezati za svoje dekle?
6 Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants.
Ali bodo družabniki iz njega naredili gostijo? Ga bodo razdelili med trgovce?
7 Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?
Lahko njegovo kožo napolniš z bodečimi žicami? Ali njegovo glavo z ribjimi sulicami?
8 Lay thy hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
9 Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not [one] be cast down even at the sight of him?
10 None [is so] fierce that he dare rouse him: who then is able to stand before me?
11 Who hath first benefited me, that I should repay [him]? [whatever is] under the whole heaven is mine.
12 I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
Ne bom prikril njegovih delov, niti njegove moči, niti njegovega lepega razmerja.
13 Who can discover the face of his garment? [or] who can come [to him] with his double bridle?
14 Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth [are] terrible around.
Kdo lahko odpre vrata njegovega obraza? Njegovi zobje na vsaki strani so strašni.
15 [His] scales [are his] pride, shut together [as with] a close seal.
Njegove luske so njegov ponos, skupaj spete kakor z ozkim pečatom.
16 One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
17 They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
18 His sneezings flash light, and his eyes [are] like the eyelids of the morning.
Ob njegovem kihanju sije svetloba in njegove oči so podobne jutranjim vekam.
19 Out of his mouth go burning lamps, [and] sparks of fire dart forth.
20 Out of his nostrils issueth smoke, as [out] of a seething pot or caldron.
21 His breath kindleth coals, and a flame issueth from his mouth.
Njegov dih prižge ogorke in plamen izhaja iz njegovih ust.
22 In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
V njegovem vratu ostaja moč in bridkost je pred njim spremenjena v radost.
23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
Luskine njegovega mesa so združene skupaj.
24 His heart is as firm as a stone; yes, as hard as a piece of the nether [millstone].
25 When he raiseth himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.
Ko se vzdiguje, so mogočni prestrašeni. Zaradi zlomov se očiščujejo.
26 The sword of him that attacketh him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.
Meč tistega, ki seže proti njemu, ne more obstati, niti sulica, niti puščica, niti brezrokavna verižna srajca.
27 He esteemeth iron as straw, [and] brass as rotten wood.
Železo ceni kakor slamo in bron kakor trohnel les.
28 The arrow cannot make him flee: sling-stones are turned with him into stubble.
Puščica ga ne more spraviti v beg. Kamni iz prače so mu spremenjeni v strnišče.
29 Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.
Puščice so štete kakor strnišče. Smeji se ob tresenju sulice.
30 Sharp stones [are] under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.
Ostro kamenje je pod njim. Po blatu razširja ostre koničaste stvari.
31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
Globinam napravlja, da vrejo kakor lonec. Morje dela podobno loncu mazila.
32 He maketh a path to shine after him; [one] would think the deep [to be] hoary.
On dela stezo, da sije za njim. Nekdo bi mislil, da bo globina osivela.
33 Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
34 He beholdeth all high [things]: he [is] a king over all the children of pride.
Gleda vse visoke stvari. Kralj je nad vsemi ponosnimi otroki.«
