2 Samuel 17
1 Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night;
Så sa Akitofel til Absalom: La mig få velge ut tolv tusen mann, så vil jeg bryte op og sette efter David inatt!
2 And I will come upon him while he [is] weary and weak-handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that [are] with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:
Da kan jeg komme over ham mens han er utmattet og motløs, og forferde ham, og alt folket som er med ham, vil flykte, og så kan jeg slå kongen alene,
3 And I will bring back all the people to thee: the man whom thou seekest [is] as if all returned: [so] all the people shall be in peace.
og jeg vil føre alt folket tilbake til dig. At alle vender tilbake, avhenger av at det går således med den mann du søker efter; alt folket kan da være i fred.
4 And the saying, pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.
Dette råd syntes Absalom og alle Israels eldste godt om.
5 Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.
Men Absalom sa: Kall også arkitten Husai til mig, så vi kan få høre hvad han har å si.
6 And when Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom spoke to him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do [after] his saying? if not, speak thou.
Da Husai kom til Absalom, sa Absalom til ham: Så og så har Akitofel talt; skal vi gjøre som han sier? Hvis ikke, så tal du!
7 And Hushai said to Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given, [is] not good at this time.
Da sa Husai til Absalom: Det er ikke noget godt råd Akitofel denne gang har gitt.
8 For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they [are] mighty men, and they [are] chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father [is] a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
Og Husai sa: Du kjenner din far og hans menn og vet at de er djerve stridsmenn og gramme i hu som en binne i skogen som de har røvet ungene fra; og din far er en krigsmann og holder sig ikke hos folkene om natten.
9 Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some [other] place: and it will come to pass, when some of them [are] overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.
Nu holder han sig sikkert skjult i en eller annen hule eller et annet sted; om han da straks i begynnelsen overfaller dine folk, så vil hver den som hører det, si: Det har vært et stort mannefall blandt de folk som følger Absalom;
10 And he also [that is] valiant, whose heart [is] as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father [is] a mighty man, and [they] who [are] with him [are] valiant men.
og om det så er en djerv mann som har et hjerte som en løve, så vil han dog bli motløs; for hele Israel vet at din far er en helt, og at de som er med ham, er djerve folk.
11 Therefore I counsel that all Israel should be generally gathered to thee, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that [is] by the sea for multitude; and that thou shouldst go to battle in thy own person.
Derfor er dette mitt råd: La hele Israel samle sig om dig, fra Dan til Be'erseba, som sanden ved havet i mengde; og dra selv med i striden.
12 So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that [are] with him there shall not be left so much as one.
Når vi så støter på ham et eller annet sted hvor han er å finne, så vil vi falle over ham som duggen faller over jorden, og det skal ikke bli en eneste i live av dem, hverken han selv eller nogen av de menn som er med ham.
13 Moreover, if he shall have entered into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there is not one small stone found there.
Og dersom han drar sig tilbake til en av byene, så skal hele Israel legge rep omkring den by, og vi skal dra den ned i dalen til det ikke finnes en sten igjen der.
14 And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite [is] better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.
Da sa Absalom og hver Israels mann: Arkitten Husais råd er bedre enn Akitofels råd. Men det var Herren som hadde laget det så for å gjøre Akitofels gode råd til intet, så Herren kunde la ulykken komme over Absalom.
15 Then said Hushai to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counseled.
Så sa Husai til prestene Sadok og Abjatar: Så og så har Akitofel rådet Absalom og Israels eldste, og så og så har jeg rådet.
16 Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that [are] with him.
Send derfor hastig bud til David om det og si: Bli ikke natten over på moene i ørkenen, men dra heller over, forat ikke kongen og alt folket som er med ham, skal gå til grunne!
17 Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En-rogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a maid servant went and told them; and they went and told king David.
Jonatan og Akima'as holdt sig i En-Rogel, og en tjenestepike gikk jevnlig med bud til dem, og de gikk igjen med bud til kong David; for de torde ikke gå inn i byen og la sig se der.
18 Nevertheless, a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; into which they descended.
Men en gutt fikk se dem og sa det til Absalom. Da skyndte de sig avsted begge to. I Bahurim gikk de inn til en mann der som hadde en brønn på sin gård; i den steg de ned.
19 And the woman took and spread a covering over the well's mouth, and spread ground corn upon it; and the thing was not known.
Og hans hustru tok og bredte et dekke over brønnen og strødde gryn ovenpå, så ingen kunde merke noget.
20 And when Absalom's servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where [is] Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said to them, they have gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find [them], they returned to Jerusalem.
Da så Absaloms tjenere kom inn i huset til konen og spurte: Hvor er Akima'as og Jonatan? svarte konen: De gikk over den lille bekken her. Så lette de efter dem, men fant dem ikke og vendte så tilbake til Jerusalem.
21 And it came to pass, after they had departed, that they came out of the well, and went and told king David, and said to David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counseled against you.
Men så snart de var gått bort, steg de andre op av brønnen og gikk og bar budet frem til kong David og sa til ham: Gjør eder rede og sett hastig over vannet! For det og det råd har Akitofel gitt mot eder.
22 Then David arose, and all the people that [were] with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that had not gone over Jordan.
Da brøt de op, både David og alt folket som var med ham, og satte over Jordan; da morgenen lyste frem, manglet det ikke en eneste mann som ikke var gått over Jordan.
23 And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled [his] ass, and arose, and went home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died. and was buried in the sepulcher of his father.
Men da Akitofel så at hans råd ikke blev fulgt, salte han sitt asen og tok ut og drog hjem til sin by og beskikket sitt hus og hengte sig; og han døde og blev begravet i sin fars grav.
24 Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
David var alt kommet til Mahana'im da Absalom satte over Jordan med alle Israels menn.
25 And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa [was] a man's son, whose name [was] Ithra, an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah, Joab's mother.
Absalom hadde satt Amasa over hæren i stedet for Joab; Amasa var sønn av en mann som hette Jitra, en jisre'elitt som hadde gått inn til Abigal, datter av Nahas og søster til Seruja, Joabs mor.
26 So Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead.
Og Israel og Absalom leiret sig i Gileads land.
27 And it came to pass, when David had come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
Da David kom til Mahana'im, hendte det at Sobi, sønn av Nahas, fra Rabba i Ammons barns land, og Makir, sønn av Ammiel, fra Lo-Debar, og gileaditten Barsillai fra Rogelim
28 Brought beds, and basins, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched [corn], and beans, and lentils, and parched [pulse],
kom med senger og fat og lerkar og hvete og bygg og mel og ristet korn og bønner og linser og ristede belgfrukter
29 And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of cows, for David, and for the people that [were] with him, to eat: for they said, The people [are] hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.
og honning og melk og småfe og oster av kumelk til føde for David og hans folk, for de tenkte: Folkene er blitt sultne og trette og tørste i ørkenen.
