walethula e-alithareni lelilizwi likaThixo elithi: “Wena alithare! Nanku okutshiwo nguThixo ukuthi, ‘Kuzazalwa indodana endlini kaDavida, ibizo lakhe lizakuba nguJosiya. Izakwenza umhlatshelo phezu kwakho ngabaphristi bezindawo eziphakemeyo okwakhathesi abenza iminikelo khona lapha, lamathambo abantu azatshiselwa phezu kwakho.’”

Ngalolosuku umuntu kaNkulunkulu wenza isibonakaliso esithi: “Lesi yisiboniso esivela kuThixo: I-alithari lizadatshulwa phakathi lomlotha ophezu kwalo uzachithwa.”

Inkosi uJerobhowamu isizwile isikhalazo sendoda evela kuNkulunkulu nge-alithare leBhetheli yelulela isandla sayo e-alithareni, yathi, “Mbambeni!” Kodwa isandla leso ayeselulile soma wehluleka ukusifinyeza.

Inkosi yathi emuntwini kaNkulunkulu, “Ake ungincengele kuThixo uNkulunkulu wakho, ungikhulekele, ukuba isandla sami sisiliswe sibuyele esimeni saso.” Umuntu kaNkulunkulu wasemncengela kuThixo, lesandla sikaJerobhowamu sasiliswa saba njengakuqala.

Wasesithi emuntwini kaNkulunkulu: “Ake siye ekhaya ukuba udle, ngizakunika umvuzo.”
8 and to say man [the] God to(wards) [the] king if to give: give to/for me [obj] half house: household your not to come (in): come with you and not to eat food: bread and not to drink water in/on/with place [the] this
Kodwa umuntu kaNkulunkulu wayiphendula inkosi wathi, “Loba ungaze unginike ingxenye yenotho yakho, kangihambi lawe; kangiyikudla ukudla, njalo angiyikunatha amanzi kulindawo;
9 for so to command [obj] me in/on/with word LORD to/for to say not to eat food: bread and not to drink water and not to return: return in/on/with way: road which to go: come
ngoba ngilaywe ngelizwi likaThixo ukuthi: ‘Ungabokudla ukudla, unganathi amanzi njalo ungaphenduki ngendlela oze ngayo.’”

Ngakho wabuyela ngenye indlela, kasabuyelanga ngendlela ayeze ngayo eBhetheli.

Wasesithi emadodaneni akhe, “Lungisani ubabhemi lingifakele isihlalo phezu kwakhe.” Kwathi sebemlungisele wagada ubabhemi
14 and to go: went after man [the] God and to find him to dwell underneath: under [the] oak and to say to(wards) him you(m. s.) man [the] God which to come (in): come from Judah and to say I
walandela umuntu kaNkulunkulu, wamfica ehlezi ngaphansi kwesihlahla somʼOkhi wambuza wathi, “Nguwe umuntu kaNkulunkulu na ovela koJuda?” Indoda yathi, “Yebo yimi.”

Ngakho umphrofethi wasesithi kuye, “Woza siye ekhaya uzokudla.”

Umuntu kaNkulunkulu wathi, “Angingeke ngiphenduke ukuthi ngibuyele lawe emuva, njalo angingeke ngidle ukudla loba nginathe amanzi lawe kule indawo.
17 for word: speaking to(wards) me in/on/with word LORD not to eat food: bread and not to drink there water not to return: return to/for to go: went in/on/with way: road which to go: come in/on/with her

Ngakho umuntu kaNkulunkulu wabuyela laye wafika wadla ukudla wanatha lamanzi endlini yakhe.

Besahlezi endaweni yokudlela, ilizwi likaThixo lafika kuye umphrofethi omdala owayemphendule wabuyela laye emuva.

Wakhuluma kulowomuntu kaNkulunkulu owayevela koJuda wathi, “Nanku okutshiwo nguThixo: ‘Usuphikise ilizwi likaThixo awusagcinanga imilayo kaThixo uNkulunkulu wakho akulaya ngayo.
22 and to return: return and to eat food: bread and to drink water in/on/with place which to speak: speak to(wards) you not to eat food: bread and not to drink water not to come (in): come carcass your to(wards) grave father your
Uphenduke endleleni wafika wadla ukudla wanatha lamanzi lapho utshelwe ukuthi ungaze wadla ukudla kumbe unathe amanzi akhona. Ngenxa yalokho isidumbu sakho asisayikungcwatshwa emangcwabeni abokhokho bakho.’”

Kwathi umuntu kaNkulunkulu eseqedile ukudla lokunatha, umphrofethi owayemphendule endleleni wambuyisela emuva wafaka isihlalo sakhe phezu kukababhemi wamkhweza.
24 and to go: went and to find him lion in/on/with way: road and to die him and to be carcass his to throw in/on/with way: road and [the] donkey to stand: stand beside her and [the] lion to stand: stand beside [the] carcass
Uthe esengene indlela yakhe, kwavela isilwane endleleni sambulala, isidumbu sakhe sasala phansi emgwaqweni, kwathi ubabhemi wema ngapha kwesidumbu lesilwane sime ngale kwaso.
25 and behold human to pass and to see: see [obj] [the] carcass to throw in/on/with way: road and [obj] [the] lion to stand: stand beside [the] carcass and to come (in): come and to speak: speak in/on/with city which [the] prophet [the] old to dwell in/on/with her
Abantu ababesedlula lapho babona isidumbu siwele khonapho emgwaqweni, isilwane simi eceleni phansi kwesidumbu, bedlulela edolobheni bayabikela umphrofethi omdala lapho ayehlala khona.
26 and to hear: hear [the] prophet which to return: return him from [the] way: journey and to say man [the] God he/she/it which to rebel [obj] lip: word LORD and to give: give him LORD to/for lion and to break him and to die him like/as word LORD which to speak: speak to/for him
Kwathi umphrofethi owayemphendule endleleni ehambeni lwakhe ekuzwa lokhu, wathi, “Ngumuntu kaNkulunkulu odelele ilizwi likaThixo. UThixo umnikele esilwaneni, esimphoqoze sambulala, njengoba ilizwi likaThixo belimxwayisile.”
27 and to speak: speak to(wards) son: child his to/for to say to saddle/tie to/for me [obj] [the] donkey and to saddle/tie
Umphrofethi wathi emadodaneni akhe, “Ngilungiselani ubabhemi limethese isihlalo.” Akwenza lokho amadodana,
28 and to go: went and to find [obj] carcass his to throw in/on/with way: road and donkey and [the] lion to stand: stand beside [the] carcass not to eat [the] lion [obj] [the] carcass and not to break [obj] [the] donkey
wasesuka esiya khonale lapho afumana khona isidumbu endleleni, ngapha kumi isilwane ngale kungubabhemi emaceleni aso. Isilwane asizange sisithinte isidumbu kanti njalo sasivele singazange simthinte lobabhemi.
29 and to lift: raise [the] prophet [obj] carcass man [the] God and to rest him to(wards) [the] donkey and to return: return him and to come (in): come to(wards) city [the] prophet [the] old to/for to mourn and to/for to bury him
Ngakho umphrofethi wathatha isidumbu somuntu kaNkulunkulu, wasikhweza kubabhemi, wasithwalela edolobheni lakhe lapho afika amlilela khona njalo wamngcwaba khona.
30 and to rest [obj] carcass his in/on/with grave his and to mourn upon him woe! brother: compatriot my
Wasebeka isidumbu engcwabeni lakhe, wamlilela wathi, “Maye, umfowethu!”
31 and to be after to bury he [obj] him and to say to(wards) son: child his to/for to say in/on/with death my and to bury [obj] me in/on/with grave which man [the] God to bury in/on/with him beside bone his to rest [obj] bone my
Ngemva kokumngcwaba, wathi emadodaneni akhe, “Ekufeni kwami, lingingcwabe engcwabeni lona leli okungcwatshwe khona umuntu kaNkulunkulu; libeke amathambo ami ndawonye lamathambo akhe.
32 for to be to be [the] word: speaking which to call: call out in/on/with word LORD upon [the] altar which in/on/with Bethel Bethel and upon all house: home [the] high place which in/on/with city Samaria
Ngoba ilizwi alimemezelayo ngelizwi likaThixo phezu kwe-alithari eBhetheli laphezu kwazo zonke indawana zomhlatshelo eziphakemeyo emadolobheni aseSamariya lizagcwaliseka.”
33 after [the] word: thing [the] this not to return: repent Jeroboam from way: journey his [the] bad: evil and to return: again and to make from end [the] people priest high place [the] delighting to fill [obj] hand: donate his and to be priest high place
