Genesis 3
1 Now, the serpent, was more crafty than any living thing of the field which Yahweh God had made, so he said unto the woman, Can it really be that God hath said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா உண்டாக்கியிருந்த காட்டு மிருகங்கள் எல்லாவற்றையும்விட, பாம்பு அதிக தந்திரமுள்ளதாய் இருந்தது. பாம்பு அப்பெண்ணிடம், “தோட்டத்தில் உள்ள எந்த ஒரு மரத்திலிருந்தும் சாப்பிடவேண்டாம் என்று இறைவன் உங்களுக்குச் சொன்னாரோ?” எனக் கேட்டது.
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, —Of the fruit of the trees of the garden, we may eat;
அதற்கு அந்தப் பெண் பாம்பிடம், “தோட்டத்திலுள்ள மரங்களின் பழங்களை நாங்கள் சாப்பிடலாம்;
3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said Ye shall not eat of it neither shall ye touch it, —lest ye die.
ஆனால் இறைவன், ‘நீங்கள் தோட்டத்தின் நடுவிலுள்ள மரத்திலிருந்து பழத்தை சாப்பிடக்கூடாது, அதைத் தொடவும் கூடாது, மீறினால் சாவீர்கள்’ என்று சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்” என்றாள்.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, —Ye shall not die,
அதற்குப் பாம்பு அந்தப் பெண்ணிடம், “நிச்சயமாக நீங்கள் சாகவே மாட்டீர்கள்” என்று சொன்னது.
5 For God doth know, that in the day ye eat thereof, then shall your eyes be opened, —and ye shall become like God, knowing good and evil.
“ஏனெனில் அந்த மரத்திலிருந்து சாப்பிடும் நாளிலே, உங்கள் கண்கள் திறக்கப்படும். நீங்கள் இறைவனைப் போலாகி, நன்மையையும் தீமையையும் அறிவீர்கள் என்பது இறைவனுக்குத் தெரியும்” என்றது.
6 And, when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was desirable to the eyes and the tree was pleasant to make one knowing, then took she of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and she gave to her husband also, along with her, and he did eat.
அப்பொழுது அந்தப் பெண், அந்த மரத்தின் பழம் சாப்பிடுவதற்கு நல்லதாயும், பார்வைக்கு அழகானதாயும் இருந்ததுடன், அது அறிவைப் பெறுவதற்கு விரும்பத்தக்கதாயும் இருக்கக் கண்டாள்; அவள் அதின் பழத்தைப் பறித்துச் சாப்பிட்டாள். பின்பு அதைத் தன்னுடனிருந்த தன் கணவனுக்கும் சாப்பிடக் கொடுத்தாள், அவனும் அதைச் சாப்பிட்டான்.
7 Then were opened the eyes of them both, and they knew that, naked, they were, —so they tacked together fig-leaves, and made for themselves girdles,
பிறகு அவர்கள் இருவருடைய கண்களும் திறக்கப்பட்டு, முன்னர் அறிந்திராத விஷயங்களை அறிந்துகொண்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது தாங்கள் இருவரும் நிர்வாணிகளாய் இருப்பதை அவர்கள் உணர்ந்தார்கள். எனவே அவர்கள் அத்தியிலைகளைத் தைத்துத் தங்களை மூடிக்கொண்டார்கள்.
8 Then heard they the sound of Yahweh God, walking to and fro in the garden at the breeze of the day, —so he hid himself—the man with his wife, from the face of Yahweh God, amid the trees of the garden.
அன்று மாலை தென்றல் காற்று வீசிய வேளையில், இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா தோட்டத்தில் உலாவிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் சத்தத்தை மனிதனும் அவன் மனைவியும் கேட்டார்கள்; உடனே அவர்கள் தோட்டத்தின் மரங்களுக்கு இடையில் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவிடமிருந்து ஒளிந்துகொண்டார்கள்.
9 And Yahweh God called unto the man, —and said to him, Where art thou?
ஆனாலும் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா மனிதனைக் கூப்பிட்டு, “நீ எங்கே இருக்கிறாய்?” என்று கேட்டார்.
10 And he said, The sound of thee, heard I in the garden, and I was afraid, for, naked, was I, so I hid myself.
அதற்கு அவன், “நான் தோட்டத்தில் உமது சத்தத்தைக் கேட்டேன்; நான் நிர்வாணியாய் இருந்தபடியால் பயந்து, ஒளிந்துகொண்டேன்” என்றான்.
11 And he said, Who told thee that, naked, thou wast? Of the tree whereof I commanded thee not to eat, hast thou eaten?
அதற்கு யெகோவா, “நீ நிர்வாணி என்று உனக்குச் சொன்னது யார்? சாப்பிட வேண்டாமென்று நான் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்ட மரத்திலிருந்து நீ சாப்பிட்டாயோ?” என்று கேட்டார்.
12 And the man said, —The woman whom thou didst put with me, she, gave me of the tree, so I did eat.
அதற்கு மனிதன், “என்னுடன் இங்கு இருப்பதற்கு நீர் எனக்குத் தந்த பெண்ணே, அந்த மரத்தின் பழத்தை எனக்குக் கொடுத்தாள்; நான் சாப்பிட்டேன்” என்றான்.
13 Then said Yahweh God to the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, the serpent, deceived me, so I did eat.
பின்பு இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா அந்த பெண்ணிடம், “நீ செய்திருக்கும் இந்தக் காரியம் என்ன?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அந்தப் பெண், “பாம்பு என்னை ஏமாற்றியது, அதனால்தான் நான் சாப்பிட்டேன்” என்று சொன்னாள்.
14 Then said Yahweh God unto the serpent—Because thou hast done this, Accursed, art thou above every tame-beast, and above every wild-beast of the field, —on thy belly, shalt thou go, and dust, shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.
அதனால் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா பாம்பிடம் சொன்னதாவது: “நீ இவ்வாறு செய்திருக்கிறபடியால், “வளர்ப்பு மிருகங்கள், காட்டு மிருகங்கள் எல்லாவற்றைப் பார்க்கிலும் அதிகமாய் சபிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பாய்! நீ வயிற்றினால் ஊர்ந்து திரிவாய்; உன் உயிருள்ள நாளெல்லாம் புழுதியைத் தின்பாய்.
15 And enmity, will I put between thee, and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed, —He shall crush thy head, but, thou, shalt crush his heel.
உனக்கும் பெண்ணுக்கும் இடையிலும், உன்னுடைய சந்ததிக்கும் அவளுடைய சந்ததிக்கும் இடையிலும் நான் பகையை உண்டாக்குவேன்; அவர் உன் தலையை நசுக்குவார், நீ அவரது குதிங்காலை நசுக்குவாய்.”
16 Unto the woman, he said, I will, increase, thy pain of pregnancy, In pain, shalt thou bear children, —Yet, unto thy husband, shall be thy longing, Though, he, rule over thee.
அதன்பின்பு அவர் பெண்ணிடம் சொன்னதாவது: “உன் குழந்தைபேற்றின் வேதனையை அதிகமாய்க் கூட்டுவேன்; வேதனையோடு நீ குழந்தைகளைப் பெறுவாய்; உன் ஆசை உன் கணவன் மேலேயே இருக்கும், அவன் உன்னை ஆண்டு நடத்துவான்.”
17 And, to the man, he said, Because thou didst hearken to the voice of thy wife, and so didst eat of the tree as to which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it, Accursed be the ground for thy sake, In pain, shalt thou eat of it, all the days of thy life;
அவர் ஆதாமிடம் சொன்னதாவது: “‘நீ சாப்பிடவேண்டாம்,’ என நான் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்ட மரத்திலிருந்து நீ உன் மனைவியின் சொல்லைக் கேட்டுச் சாப்பிட்டபடியினால், “உன் நிமித்தம் பூமி சபிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்; உன் வாழ்நாளெல்லாம் நீ வருந்தி உழைத்தே பூமியின் பலனைச் சாப்பிடுவாய்.
18 Thorn also and thistle, shall it shoot forth to thee, —when thou hast come to eat of the herb of the field:
பூமி முற்களையும் முற்புதர்களையும் உனக்கு விளைவிக்கும், வயலின் பயிர்களையே நீ சாப்பிடுவாய்.
19 In the sweat of thy face, shalt thou eat bread, until thou return to the ground, because therefrom, wast thou taken, —For, dust, thou art, And, unto dust, shalt thou return.
நீ புழுதியிலிருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்டபடியால், நீ புழுதிக்குத் திரும்பும்வரை, நெற்றி வியர்வை சிந்தியே உன் உணவைச் சாப்பிடுவாய்; நீ புழுதியிலிருந்து உண்டாக்கப்பட்டதால் புழுதிக்கே திரும்புவாய்.”
20 So the man called the name of his wife, Eve, —in that, she, was made mother of every one living.
ஆதாம் தன் மனைவிக்கு ஏவாள் என்று பெயரிட்டான், ஏனெனில் பூமியில் வாழ்வோருக்கெல்லாம் தாயாவாள்.
21 And Yahweh God made for the man—and for his wife—tunics of skin and clothed them.
இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா தோலினால் உடைகளைச் செய்து, ஆதாமுக்கும் அவன் மனைவிக்கும் உடுத்தினார்.
22 Then said Yahweh God—Lo! man, hath become like one of us, in respect of knowing good and evil, —Now, therefore, lest he thrust forth his hand, and take even of the tree of life, and eat, and live to times age-abiding, —
அதன்பின் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா, “மனிதன் இப்பொழுது நன்மையையும் தீமையையும் அறிந்து, நம்மில் ஒருவரைப்போல் ஆகிவிட்டான். அவன் தன் கையை நீட்டி, வாழ்வளிக்கும் மரத்திலிருந்து பறித்துச் சாப்பிட்டு, என்றென்றைக்கும் உயிர்வாழ இடமளிக்கக் கூடாது” என்றார்.
23 So Yahweh God put him forth from the garden of Eden, —to till the ground wherefrom he had been taken.
எனவே இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா, நிலத்திலிருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்ட அவனை நிலத்தையே பண்படுத்திப் பயிர்செய்யும்படி, ஏதேன் தோட்டத்திலிருந்து வெளியே துரத்தினார்.
24 So he expelled the man, —and caused to dwell—in front of the garden of Eden—cherubim and a brandishing sword—flame, to keep the way to the tree of life.
அவர் மனிதனை வெளியே துரத்திவிட்டபின், ஏதேன் தோட்டத்தின் கிழக்குப் பக்கமாக கேருபீன்களையும், சுற்றிச் சுழலும் சுடரொளி வாளையும் வாழ்வளிக்கும் மரத்திற்குப் போகும் வழியைக் காவல் காக்கும்படி வைத்தார்.
