Colossians 4
1 Masters, do what is right and fair by your slaves, for you know that you also have a Master – in heaven.
Gij heren, doet uw dienstknechten recht en gelijk, wetende, dat ook gij een Heere hebt in de hemelen.
2 Devote yourselves to prayer. Give your whole mind to it, and also offer thanksgiving;
Houdt sterk aan in het gebed, en waakt in hetzelve met dankzegging;
3 and at the same time pray for us, so that God may give us an opening for our message, so that we may speak of the truths hidden in the Christ – the truths for which I am in chains!
Biddende meteen ook voor ons, dat God ons de deur des Woords opene, om te spreken de verborgenheid van Christus, om welke ik ook gebonden ben;
4 Then I will make them known, as I ought to do.
Opdat ik dezelve moge openbaren, gelijk ik moet spreken.
5 Show tact in your behaviour to the outside world, making the most of every opportunity.
Wandelt met wijsheid bij degenen, die buiten zijn, den bekwamen tijd uitkopende.
6 Let your conversation always be kindly, but not bland, season it, as it were, with salt; be aware in each case of the answer you should be giving.
Uw woord zij te allen tijde in aangenaamheid, met zout besprengd, opdat gij moogt weten, hoe gij een iegelijk moet antwoorden.
7 Our dear friend, Tychicus, will tell you all about me. He is a faithful minister, and a fellow servant in the Master’s cause.
Al mijn zaken zal u bekend maken Tychikus, de geliefde broeder, en getrouwe dienaar, en mededienstknecht in de Heere;
8 I send him to you expressly that you may learn our circumstances, and that he may give you encouragement.
Denwelken ik tot hetzelfde einde tot u gezonden heb, opdat hij uw zaken wete, en uw harten vertrooste;
9 With him will be Onesimus, our dear faithful friend, who is one of yourselves. They will tell you all that is going on here.
Met Onesimus, den getrouwen en geliefden broeder, dewelke uit de uwen is; zij zullen u alles bekend maken, wat hier is.
10 My fellow prisoner, Aristarchus, sends you his greeting, and Barnabas’s cousin, Mark, sends his. (You have received directions about him. If he comes to you, make him welcome.)
U groet Aristarchus, mijn medegevangene; en Markus, de neef van Barnabas, aangaande welken gij bevelen ontvangen hebt; zo hij tot u komt, ontvangt hem;
11 Joshua, who is called Justus, also sends his greeting. These are the only converts from Judaism who have worked with me for the kingdom of God; I have found them a great comfort.
En Jezus, gezegd Justus, welke uit de besnijdenis zijn; deze alleen zijn mijn medearbeiders in het Koninkrijk Gods, die mij een vertroosting geweest zijn.
12 Epaphras, who is one of yourselves, sends you his greeting. He is a servant of Christ Jesus, and is always most earnest in your behalf in his prayers, praying that you may stand firm, with a matured faith and with a sure conviction of all that is in accordance with God’s will.
U groet Epafras, die uit de uwen is, een dienstknecht van Christus, te allen tijde strijdende voor u in de gebeden, opdat gij staan moogt volmaakt en volkomen in al den wil van God.
13 I can bear testimony to the deep interest he takes in you, as well as in the followers at Laodicea and at Hierapolis.
Want ik geef hem getuigenis, dat hij groten ijver heeft over u en degenen, die in Laodicea zijn, en degenen, die in Hierapolis zijn.
14 Luke, our dear doctor, sends you his greeting, and Demas sends his.
U groet Lukas, de medicijnmeester, de geliefde, en Demas.
15 Give my greeting to the followers at Laodicea, and to Nymphe, and to the church that meets at her house.
Groet de broeders, die in Laodicea zijn, en Nymfas, en de Gemeente, die in zijn huis is.
16 And when this letter has been read to you, see that it is also read before the church at Laodicea, and that you yourselves read the letter which will be forwarded from there.
En wanneer deze zendbrief van u zal gelezen zijn, maakt, dat hij ook in de gemeente der Laodicensen gelezen worde, en dat ook gij dien leest, die uit Laodicea geschreven is.
17 Give this message to Archippus – “Take care to discharge to the best of your ability the office to which you were appointed in the Master’s cause.”
En zegt aan Archippus: Zie op de bediening, die gij aangenomen hebt in de Heere, dat gij die vervult.
18 I, Paul, add this greeting in my own handwriting. Remember these chains of mine. God’s blessing be with you.
De groetenis met mijn hand, van Paulus. Gedenkt mijn banden. De genade zij met u. Amen.
