< Exodus 15 >
1 Then Moses [Drawn out] and the children of Israel [God prevails] sang this song to Adonai, and said, “I will sing to Adonai, for he has triumphed gloriously. The horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.
Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song to God, and spoke, saying, Let us sing to the Lord, for he is very greatly glorified: horse and rider he has thrown into the sea.
2 Yah is my strength and song. He has become my yishu'ah ·salvation·. This is my God, and I will praise him; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
He was to me a helper and protector for salvation: this is my God and I will glorify him; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
3 Adonai is a man of war. Yahweh [He sustains breathing] is his name.
The Lord bringing wars to nothing, the Lord [is] his name.
4 He has cast Pharaoh’s chariots and his army into the sea. His chosen captains are sunk in the Sea of Suf [Reed Sea].
He has cast the chariots of Pharao and his host into the sea, the chosen mounted captains: they were swallowed up in the Red Sea.
5 The deeps cover them. They went down into the depths like a stone.
He covered them with the sea: they sank to the depth like a stone.
6 Your right hand, Adonai, is glorious in power. Your right hand, Adonai, dashes the enemy in pieces.
Your right hand, O God, has been glorified in strength; your right hand, O God, has broken the enemies.
7 In the greatness of your excellency, you overthrow those who rise up against you. You send out your wrath. It consumes them as stubble.
And in the abundance of your glory you have broken the adversaries to pieces: you sent forth your wrath, it devoured them as stubble.
8 With the blast of your nostrils, the waters piled up! The floods stood upright as a heap. The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.
And by the breath of your anger the water parted asunder; the waters were congealed as a wall, the waves were congealed in the midst of the sea.
9 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue. I will overtake. I will divide the plunder. My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.’
The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoils; I will satisfy my soul, I will destroy with my sword, my hand shall have dominion.
10 You blew with your wind. The sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.
You sent forth your wind, the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty water.
11 Who is like you, Adonai, among the deities? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, fearful in tehilah ·praise song·, doing wonders?
Who is like to you amongst the gods, O Lord? who is like to you? glorified in holiness, marvellous in glories, doing wonders.
12 You stretched out your right hand. The earth swallowed them.
You stretched forth your right hand, the earth swallowed them up.
13 “You, in your chesed ·loving-kindness·, have led the people that you have redeemed. You have guided them in your strength to your holy habitation.
You have guided in your righteousness this your people whom you have redeemed, by your strength you have called them into your holy resting-place.
14 The peoples have sh'ma ·heard obeyed·. They tremble. Pangs have taken hold on the inhabitants of Philistia.
The nations heard and were angry, pangs have seized on the dwellers amongst the Phylistines.
15 Then the chiefs of Edom [Red] were dismayed. Trembling takes hold of the mighty men of Moab [From father]. All the inhabitants of Canaan [Humbled] have melted away.
Then the princes of Edom, and the chiefs of the Moabites hasted; trembling took hold upon them, all the inhabitants of Chanaan melted away.
16 Terror and dread falls on them. By the greatness of your arm they are as still as a stone— until your people pass over, Adonai, until the people pass over who you have purchased.
Let trembling and fear fall upon them; by the greatness of your arm, let them become as stone; till your people pass over, O Lord, till this your people pass over, whom you have purchased.
17 You shall bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, the place, Adonai, which you have made for yourself to dwell in; the sanctuary, Lord, which your hands have established.
Bring them in and plant them in the mountain of their inheritance, in your prepared habitation, which you, O Lord, have prepared; the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have made ready.
18 Adonai shall reign forever and ever.”
The Lord reigns for ever and ever and ever.
19 For the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Adonai brought back the waters of the sea on them; but the children of Israel [God prevails] walked on dry land in the middle of the sea.
For the horse of Pharao went in with the chariots and horsemen into the sea, and the Lord brought upon them the water of the sea, but the children of Israel walked through dry land in the midst of the sea.
20 Miriam [Rebellion] the prophetess, the sister of Aaron [Light-bringer], took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dances.
And Mariam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, having taken a timbrel in her hand—then there went forth all the women after her with timbrels and dances.
21 Miriam [Rebellion] answered them, “Sing to Adonai, for he has triumphed. The horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.”
And Mariam led them, saying, Let us sing to the Lord, for he has been very greatly glorified: the horse and rider has he cast into the sea.
22 Moses [Drawn out] led Israel [God prevails] onward from the Sea of Suf [Reed Sea], and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
So Moses brought up the children of Israel from the Red Sea, and brought them into the wilderness of Sur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water to drink.
23 When they came to Marah [Bitter], they couldn’t drink from the waters of Marah [Bitter], for they were bitter. Therefore its name was called Marah [Bitter].
and they came to Merrha, and could not drink of Merrha, for it was bitter; therefore he named the name of that place, Bitterness.
24 The people murmured against Moses [Drawn out], saying, “What shall we drink?”
And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
25 Then he cried to Adonai. Adonai showed him a tree, and he threw it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There he made a statute and a judgement for them, and there he tested them;
And Moses cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree, and he cast it into the water, and the water was sweetened: there he established to him ordinances and judgements, and there he proved him,
26 and he said, “If you will sh'ma ·hear obey· sh'ma ·hear obey· Adonai your God’s voice, and will do that which is right in his eyes, and will pay attention to his mitzvot ·instructions·, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you, which I have put on the Egyptians [people from Abode of slavery]; for I am I am Yahweh Rafa' [Yahweh your Physician, Yahweh your Healer].”
and said, If you will indeed hear the voice of the Lord your God, and do things pleasing before him, and will listen to his commands, and keep all his ordinances, no disease which I have brought upon the Egyptians will I bring upon you, for I am the Lord your God that heals you.
27 They came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water, and seventy palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.
And they came to Aelim, and there were there twelve fountains of water, and seventy stems of palm-trees; and they encamped there by the waters.
