Matthew 23
1 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes, and to his disciples,
Tada Isus prozbori mnoštvu i svojim učenicima:
2 saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in the seat of Moses.
“Na Mojsijevu stolicu zasjedoše pismoznanci i farizeji.
3 All, therefore, whatever they bid you, do and observe; but do not according to their works; for they say, and do not.
Činite dakle i obdržavajte sve što vam kažu, ali se nemojte ravnati po njihovim djelima jer govore, a ne čine.
4 They bind heavy burdens, and lay them on men's shoulders, and will not themselves move them with a finger.
Vežu i ljudima na pleća tovare teška bremena, a sami ni da bi ih prstom makli.
5 And all their works they do to be observed by men. They make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge their fringes,
Sva svoja djela čine zato da ih ljudi vide. Doista, proširuju zapise svoje i produljuju rese.
6 and love the first place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
Vole pročelja na gozbama, prva sjedala u sinagogama,
7 and salutations in the markets, and to be called by men, Rabbi.
pozdrave na trgovima i da ih ljudi zovu 'Rabbi'.
8 But be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your teacher; and ye are all brethren.
Vi pak ne dajte se zvati 'Rabbi', jer jedan je učitelj vaš, a svi ste vi braća.
9 And call no one your father on the earth; for one is your father, he who is in heaven.
Ni ocem ne zovite nikoga na zemlji jer jedan je Otac vaš - onaj na nebesima.
10 Nor be ye called leaders; for one is your leader, the Christ.
I ne dajte da vas vođama zovu, jer jedan je vaš vođa - Krist.
11 But the greatest among you will be your servant.
Najveći među vama neka vam bude poslužitelj.
12 And whoever shall exalt himself will be humbled; and whoever shall humble himself will be exalted.
Tko se god uzvisuje, bit će ponižen, a tko se ponizuje, bit će uzvišen.”
13 But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites I because ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for ye go not in yourselves, nor suffer those who are entering to go in.
“Jao vama, pismoznanci i farizeji! Licemjeri! Zaključavate kraljevstvo nebesko pred ljudima; sami ne ulazite, a ne date ući ni onima koji bi htjeli.”
15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is made, ye make him two-fold mole a son of hell than yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
“Jao vama, pismoznanci i farizeji! Licemjeri! Obilazite morem i kopnom da pridobijete jednog sljedbenika. A kad ga pridobijete, promećete ga u sina paklenoga dvaput goreg od sebe.” (Geenna g1067)
16 Woe to you, blind guides, that say, Whoever sweareth by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever sweareth by the gold of the temple, is bound.
“Jao vama! Slijepe vođe! Govorite: 'Zakune li se tko Hramom, nije ništa. Ali ako se zakune hramskim zlatom, veže ga zakletva.'
17 Fools and blind I for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
Budale i slijepci! Ta što je veće: zlato ili Hram što posvećuje zlato?
18 And, Whoever sweareth by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, is bound.
Nadalje: 'Zakune li se tko žrtvenikom, nije ništa. Ali ako se zakune darom što je na njemu, veže ga zakletva.'
19 Blind men! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar flint sanctifieth the gift?
Slijepci! Ta što je veće: dar ili žrtvenik što dar posvećuje?
20 He then who sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all that is upon it;
Tko se dakle zakune žrtvenikom, kune se njime i svime što je na njemu.
21 and he that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him who dwelleth in it;
I tko se zakune Hramom, kune se njime i Onim koji u njemu prebiva.
22 and he who sweareth by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him who sitteth thereon.
I tko se zakune nebom, kune se prijestoljem Božjim i Onim koji na njemu sjedi.”
23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithes of the mint, and the dill, and the cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the Law, justice, and mercy, and faith; these ought ye to have done, and not to leave those undone.
“Jao vama, pismoznanci i farizeji! Licemjeri! Namirujete desetinu od metvice i kopra i kima, a propuštate najvažnije u Zakonu: pravednost, milosrđe, vjernost. Ovo je trebalo činiti, a ono ne propuštati.
24 Blind guides! who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel.
Slijepe vođe! Cijedite komarca, a gutate devu!”
25 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and the platter, but within they are full of robbery and licentiousness.
“Jao vama, pismoznanci i farizeji! Licemjeri! Čistite čašu i zdjelu izvana, a iznutra su pune grabeža i pohlepe.
26 Blind Pharisee! cleanse first the inside of the cup, that its outside side also may become clean.
Farizeju slijepi! Očisti najprije nutrinu čaše da joj i vanjština bude čista.”
27 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like whited sepulchres, which outwardly indeed appear beautiful, but within are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
Jao vama pismoznanci i farizeji! Licemjeri! Nalik ste na obijeljene grobove. Izvana izgledaju lijepi, a iznutra su puni mrtvačkih kostiju i svakojake nečistoće.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
Tako i vi izvana ljudima izgledate pravedni, a iznutra ste puni licemjerja i bezakonja.”
29 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and adorn the tombs of the righteous,
“Jao vama, pismoznanci i farizeji! Licemjeri! Gradite grobnice prorocima i kitite spomenike pravednicima
30 and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
te govorite: 'Da smo mi živjeli u dane otaca svojih, ne bismo bili njihovi sudionici u prolijevanju krvi proročke.'
31 So that ye bear witness against yourselves, that ye are the sons of those who killed the prophets.
Tako sami protiv sebe svjedočite da ste sinovi ubojica proroka.
32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers!
Dopunite samo mjeru otaca svojih!”

34 Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city;
Zato evo ja šaljem vama proroke i mudrace i pismoznance. Jedne ćete od njih ubiti i raspeti, druge bičevati po svojim sinagogama i progoniti od grada do grada
35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Barachiah, whom ye slew, between the temple and the altar.
da tako na vas dođe sva pravedna krv, prolivena na zemlji od krvi Abela pravednoga pa do krvi Zaharije, sina Barahijina, kojega ubiste između Hrama i žrtvenika.
36 Truly do I say to you, All these things will come upon this generation.
Zaista, kažem vam, sve će to doći na ovaj naraštaj!”
37 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth those who are sent to her! How often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
“Jeruzaleme, Jeruzaleme, koji ubijaš proroke i kamenuješ one što su tebi poslani! Koliko li puta htjedoh okupiti djecu tvoju kao što kvočka okuplja piliće pod krila, i ne htjedoste.
38 Lo! your house is left to you desolate.
Evo, napuštena vam kuća.
39 For I say to you, Ye will not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Doista, kažem vam, odsada me nećete vidjeti dok ne reknete: Blagoslovljen Onaj koji dolazi u ime Gospodnje!”
