Job 35
1 Moreover Elihu proceeded, and said:
Och Elihu tog till orda och sade:
2 Dost thou then think this to be right? Thou hast said, “I am more righteous than God.”
Menar du att sådant är riktigt? Kan du påstå att du har rätt mot Gud,
3 For thou askest, “What advantage have I? What have I gained, more than if I had sinned?”
du som frågar vad rättfärdighet gagnar dig, vad den båtar dig mer än synd?
4 I will answer thee, And thy companions with thee.
Svar härpå vill jag giva dig, jag ock dina vänner med dig.
5 Look up to the heavens, and see! And behold the clouds, which are high above thee!
Skåda upp mot himmelen och se, betrakta skyarna, som gå där högt över dig.
6 If thou sinnest, what doest thou against Him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou to him?
Om du syndar, vad gör du väl honom därmed? Och om dina överträdelser äro många, vad skadar du honom därmed?
7 If thou art righteous, what dost thou give him? Or what receiveth he at thy hand?
Eller om du är rättfärdig, vad giver du honom, och vad undfår han av din hand?
8 Thy wickedness injureth only a man like thyself, And thy righteousness profiteth only a son of man.
Nej, för din like kunde din ogudaktighet något betyda och för en människoson din rättfärdighet.
9 The oppressed cry out on account of the multitude of wrongs; They cry aloud on account of the arm of the mighty.
Väl klagar man, när våldsgärningarna äro många, man ropar om hjälp mot de övermäktigas arm;
10 But none saith, “Where is God, my Maker, Who giveth songs in the night;
men ingen frågar: "Var är min Gud, min skapare, han som låter lovsånger ljuda mitt i natten,
11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, And maketh us wiser than the birds of heaven?”
han som giver oss insikt framför markens djur och vishet framför himmelens fåglar?"
12 There they cry aloud on account of the pride of the wicked; But he giveth no answer.
Därför är det man får ropa utan svar om skydd mot de ondas övermod.
13 For God will not hear the vain supplication, Nor will the Almighty regard it;
Se, på fåfängliga böner hör icke Gud, den Allsmäktige aktar icke på slikt;
14 Much less when thou sayest thou canst not see him: Justice is with him, —only wait thou for him!
allra minst, när du påstår att du icke får skåda honom, att du måste vänta på honom, fastän saken är uppenbar.
15 But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, Nor taken strict note of transgression,
Och nu menar du att hans vrede ej håller någon räfst, och att han föga bekymrar sig om människors övermod?
16 Therefore hath Job opened his mouth rashly, And multiplied words without knowledge.
Ja, till fåfängligt tal spärrar Job upp sin mun, utan insikt talar han stora ord.
