Isaiah 20

1 In the year in which Tartan, being sent by Sargon, the king of Assyria, came to Ashdod, and fought against Ashdod, and took it,

L'année où Tartan s'avança sur Asdod, envoyé par Sargon, roi d'Assyrie, et où il assiégea et prit Asdod,

2 at that time spake Jehovah through Isaiah the son of Amoz in this manner: Go, and loose the sackcloth from thy loins, and put off thy shoes from thy feet. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

en ce temps-là l'Éternel parla par l'intermédiaire d'Ésaïe, fils d'Amots, et dit: Va, et détache le cilice de tes reins, et ôte tes souliers de tes pieds. Et il fit ainsi, et alla sans manteau et nu-pieds.

3 And Jehovah said: As my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years, a sign and a token for Egypt and Ethiopia,

Alors l'Éternel dit: De même que mon serviteur Ésaïe va sans manteau et nu-pieds, pendant trois ans signe et présage pour l'Egypte et pour l'Éthiopie,

4 so shall the king of Assyria lead the captives of Egypt, and prisoners of Ethiopia, young and old, naked and barefoot, with their hind parts uncovered, to the shame of the Egyptians.

de même le roi d'Assyrie emmènera les captifs de l'Egypte et les captifs de l'Ethiopie, jeunes hommes et vieillards, sans manteau et nu-pieds et le dos découvert, opprobre pour l'Egypte.

5 Then shall they be afraid and ashamed on account of Ethiopia their trust, and of Egypt their glory.

Alors ils seront consternés, et auront honte de l'Ethiopie qui avait leur confiance, et de l'Egypte dont ils se glorifiaient.

6 The inhabitant of this coast shall say in that day, “Behold, so is it with them in whom we trusted, and to whom we fled for help, that we might be delivered from the king of Assyria. How then shall we escape?”

Et les habitants de cette côte diront en ce jour: Voilà où en sont ceux qui avaient notre confiance, vers qui nous fuyions, pour être secourus, pour être délivrés du roi d'Assyrie! et nous, comment pourrions-nous échapper?
