Genesis 6
1 And it happened, when humankind began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them,
Et il arriva, quand les hommes commencèrent à se multiplier sur la face de la terre et que des filles leur furent nées,
2 that God's sons saw that the daughters of humankind were beautiful, and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.
que les fils de Dieu virent les filles des hommes, qu’elles étaient belles, et ils se prirent des femmes d’entre toutes celles qu’ils choisirent.
3 And God said, "My Spirit will not remain in humankind forever, since he is indeed flesh; yet his days will be one hundred twenty years."
Et l’Éternel dit: Mon Esprit ne contestera pas à toujours avec l’homme, puisque lui n’est que chair; mais ses jours seront 120 ans.
4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days (and also after that), when the sons of God had sexual relations with the daughters of humankind and had children by them. They were the mighty men who were from ancient times, famous men.
Les géants étaient sur la terre en ces jours-là, et aussi après que les fils de Dieu furent venus vers les filles des hommes et qu’elles leur eurent donné des enfants: ceux-ci furent les vaillants hommes de jadis, des hommes de renom.
5 And God saw that the wickedness of humankind was great on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Et l’Éternel vit que la méchanceté de l’homme était grande sur la terre, et que toute l’imagination des pensées de son cœur n’était que méchanceté en tout temps.
6 God was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and he was grieved in his heart.
Et l’Éternel se repentit d’avoir fait l’homme sur la terre, et il s’en affligea dans son cœur.
7 God said, "I will destroy humankind whom I have created from the face of the earth; humankind, along with animals, crawling creatures, and flying creatures of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them."
Et l’Éternel dit: J’exterminerai de dessus la face de la terre l’homme que j’ai créé, depuis l’homme jusqu’au bétail, jusqu’aux reptiles, et jusqu’aux oiseaux des cieux, car je me repens de les avoir faits.
8 But Noah found favor in the sight of God.
Mais Noé trouva grâce aux yeux de l’Éternel.
9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God.
Ce sont ici les générations de Noé: Noé était un homme juste; il était parfait parmi ceux de son temps; Noé marchait avec Dieu.
10 Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Et Noé engendra trois fils: Sem, Cham, et Japheth.
11 The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
Et la terre était corrompue devant Dieu, et la terre était pleine de violence.
12 God saw the earth, and look, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
Et Dieu regarda la terre, et voici, elle était corrompue, car toute chair avait corrompu sa voie sur la terre.
13 And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with violence through them. And look, I will destroy them with the earth.
Et Dieu dit à Noé: La fin de toute chair est venue devant moi, car la terre est pleine de violence à cause d’eux; et voici, je vais les détruire avec la terre.
14 Make a box-shaped ship of gopher wood. You are to make rooms in the ship, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.
Fais-toi une arche de bois de gopher. Tu feras l’arche avec des loges, et tu l’enduiras de poix en dedans et en dehors.
15 And this is how you are to make it. The length of the ship is to be five hundred seventeen feet, its breadth eighty-six feet, and its height fifty-two feet.
Et c’est ainsi que tu la feras: la longueur de l’arche sera de 300 coudées, sa largeur de 50 coudées, et sa hauteur de 30 coudées.
16 And you are to make a roof in the ship, and you are to finish it twenty-one inches above. And you are to set the door of the ship in its side. You are to make it with lower, second, and third levels.
Tu feras un jour à l’arche, et tu l’achèveras en [lui donnant] une coudée d’en haut; et tu placeras la porte de l’arche sur son côté; tu y feras un étage inférieur, un second, et un troisième.
17 And as for me, look, I am bringing a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy all flesh having the breath of life from under the sky. Everything that is on the earth will die.
Et moi, voici, je fais venir le déluge d’eaux sur la terre, pour détruire de dessous les cieux toute chair en laquelle il y a esprit de vie; tout ce qui est sur la terre expirera.
18 But I will establish my covenant with you. You are to come into the ship, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you.
Et j’établis mon alliance avec toi, et tu entreras dans l’arche, toi, et tes fils et ta femme et les femmes de tes fils avec toi.
19 Of every living thing of all flesh, you are to bring two of every sort into the ship, to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female.
Et de tout ce qui vit, de toute chair, tu feras entrer dans l’arche deux de chaque [espèce], pour les conserver en vie avec toi; ce seront le mâle et la femelle.
20 Of the flying creatures after their kind, of the animals after their kind, and of every crawling creature of the ground after their kind, two of every sort shall come to you, to keep them alive.
Des oiseaux selon leur espèce, et du bétail selon son espèce, de tout reptile du sol selon son espèce, deux de chaque [espèce] entreront vers toi, pour [les] conserver en vie.
21 And as for you, take for yourself all the kinds of food that are eaten, and gather it to yourself; and it will be food for you, and for them."
Et toi, prends de tout aliment qui se mange, et tu en feras provision près de toi; et cela vous sera pour nourriture, à toi et à eux.
22 Thus Noah did. According to all that God commanded him, so he did.
– Et Noé le fit; selon tout ce que Dieu lui avait commandé, ainsi il fit.
