John 18
1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he passed, with his disciples, over the brook Kidron; where was a garden, into which he entered, and his disciples.
COMO Jesus hubo dicho estas cosas, salióse con sus discípulos tras el arroyo de Cedron, donde estaba un huerto, en el cual entró Jesus, y sus discípulos.
2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place; because Jesus often resorted thither with his disciples.
Y tambien Júdas, el que le entregaba, sabia aquel lugar, porque muchas veces Jesus se juntaba allí con sus discípulos.
3 Then Judas, having got the cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came thither with lanterns, and torches, and arms.
Júdas, pues, tomando una compañía [de soldados, ] y ministros de los pontífices y de los Fariséos, vino allí con linternas y antorchas, y con armas.
4 But Jesus, who knew all that was coming upon him, went forth, and said to them, Whom do you seek?
Empero Jesus, sabiendo todas las cosas que habian de venir sobre él, salió delante, y díjoles: ¿A quién buscais?
5 They answered him, Jesus, the Nazarene. Jesus replied, I am he. Now Judas, who betrayed him, was with them.
Respondiéronle: A Jesus Nazareno. Díceles Jesus: Yo soy. (Y estaba tambien con ellos Júdas el que le entregaba.)
6 He had no sooner said to them, I am he, than they, going backward, fell to the ground.
Y como les dijo: Yo soy, volvieron atrás, y cayeron en tierra.
7 He, therefore, asked them again, Whom do you seek? They said, Jesus, the Nazarene.
Volvióles, pues, á preguntar: ¿A quién buscais? Y ellos dijeron: A Jesus Nazareno.
8 Jesus answered, I have told you, that I am he. If, therefore, you seek me, let these go away.
Respondió Jesus: [Ya] os he dicho que yo soy: pues si á mí buscais, dejad ir á estos:
9 Thus was that which he had spoken verified, Of those whom thou gavest me, I have lost none.
Para que se cumpliese la palabra que habia dicho: De los que me diste, ninguno de ellos perdí.
10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. Now the servant's name was Malchus.
Entónces Simon Pedro, que tenia espada, sacóla, é hirió al siervo del pontífice, y le cortó la oreja derecha. Y el siervo se llamaba Malco.
11 Jesus then said to Peter, Put up the sword into the scabbard. Shall I not drink the cup which the Father has given me?
Jesus entónces dijo á Pedro: Mete tu espada en la vaina: el vaso que el Padre me ha dado, ¿no lo tengo de beber?
12 Then the cohort, and their commander, and the Jewish officers, apprehended Jesus; and having bound him,
Entónces la compañía [de los soldados] y el tribuno, y los ministros de los Judíos, prendieron á Jesus, y le ataron.
13 brought him first to Annas, because he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
Y lleváronle primeramente á Anás, porque era suegro de Caifás, el cual era pontífice de aquel año.
14 Now it was Caiaphas, who had said in council to the Jews, It is expedient that one man die for the people.
Y era Caifás el que habia dado el consejo á los Judíos: Que era necesario que un hombre muriese por el pueblo.
15 Meantime Simon Peter, and another disciple, followed Jesus. That disciple, being known to the high priest, entered his court with Jesus.
Y seguia á Jesus Simon Pedro, y otro discípulo: y aquel discípulo era conocido del pontífice, y entró con Jesus al atrio del pontífice.
16 But Peter stood without, at the door. Therefore the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out, and spoke to the portress, and brought in Peter.
Mas Pedro estaba fuera á la puerta: y salió aquel discípulo que era conocido del pontífice, y habló á la portera y metió dentro á Pedro.
17 Then the maid, the portress, said to Peter, Are not you also one of this man's disciples? He answered, I am not.
Entónces la criada portera dijo á Pedro: ¿No eres tú tambien de los discípulos de este hombre? Dice él: No soy.
18 Now, the servants and the officers, stood near a fire, which they had made, because it was cold, and warmed themselves. And Peter was standing with them, and warming himself.
Y estaban en pié los siervos y los ministros que habian allegado las ascuas, porque hacia frio, y calentábanse; y estaba tambien con ellos Pedro en pié, calentándose.
19 Then the high priest interrogated Jesus concerning his disciples and his doctrine.
Y el pontífice preguntó á Jesus [acerca] de sus discípulos, y de su doctrina.
20 Jesus answered, I spoke openly to the world; I always taught in the synagogues and in the temple, whither the Jews constantly resort. I said nothing in secret.
Jesus le respondió: Yo manifiestamente he hablado al mundo; yo siempre he enseñado en la sinagoga y en el templo, donde se juntan todos los Judíos; y nada he hablado en oculto.
21 Why do you examine me? Examine them who heard me teach. They know what I said.
¿Qué me preguntas á mí? Pregunta á los que han oido, qué les haya [yo] hablado: hé aquí, esos saben lo que yo he dicho.
22 When he had spoken thus, one of the officers who attended, gave him a blow, and said, Do you answer the high priest thus?
Y como él hubo dicho esto, uno de los criados que estaba allí dió una bofetada á Jesus, diciendo: ¿Así respondes al pontífice?
23 Jesus replied, If I have spoken amiss, show in what the wrong consists: but if well, why do you smite me?
Respondióle Jesus: Si he hablado mal, da testimonio del mal: y si bien ¿por qué me hieres?
24 Now, Annas had sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.
Y Anás le habia enviado atado á Caifás pontífice.
25 As Peter stood warming himself, they asked him, Are not you also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
Estaba, pues, Pedro en pié calentándose; y dijéronle: ¿No eres tú de sus discípulos? El negó, y dijo: No soy.
26 One of the servants of the high priest, a kinsman to him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, Did I not see you in the garden with him?
Uno de los siervos del pontífice, pariente de aquel á quien Pedro habia cortado la oreja, [le] dice: ¿No te ví yo en el huerto con él?
27 Peter denied again; and immediately the cock crew.
Y negó Pedro otra vez: y luego el gallo cantó.
28 Then they led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas to the pretorium: it was now morning; but the Jews entered not the pretorium, lest they should be defiled, and so not in a condition to eat the passover.
Y llevaron á Jesus de Caifás al Pretorio; y era por la mañana: y ellos no entraron en el Pretorio por no ser contaminados, sino que comiesen la Pascua.
29 Pilate, therefore, went out to them, and said, Of what do you accuse this man?
Entónces salió Pilato á ellos fuera, y dijo: ¿Qué acusacion traeis contra este hombre?
30 They answered, If he were not a criminal, we would not have delivered him to you.
Respondieron, y dijéronle: Si este no fuera malhechor, no te lo habríamos entregado.
31 Pilate said, Then take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law. The Jews replied, We are not permitted to put any man to death.
Díceles entónces Pilato: Tomadle vosotros y juzgadle segun vuestra ley. Y los Judíos le dijeron: A nosotros no es lícito matar á nadie.
32 And thus, what Jesus had spoken, signifying what death he should die, was accomplished.
Para que se cumpliese el dicho de Jesus que habia dicho, dando á entender de qué muerte habia de morir.
33 Then Pilate returned to the pretorium, and having called Jesus, said to him, Are you the King of the Jews?
Así que Pilato volvió á entrar en el Pretorio y llama á Jesus, y díjole: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los Judíos?
34 Jesus answered, Do you say this of yourself, or did others tell you concerning me?
Respondióle Jesus: ¿Dices tú esto de tí mismo, ó te lo han dicho otro de mí?
35 Pilate replied, Am I am Jew? Your own nation, yes, the chief priests have delivered you to me. What have you done?
Pilato respondió: ¿Soy yo Judío? Tu gente, y los pontífices, te han entregado á mí: ¿qué has hecho?
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my adherents would have fought to prevent my falling into the hands of the Jews; but my kingdom is not hence.
Respondió Jesus: Mi reino no es de este mundo: si de este mundo fuera mi reino, mis servidores pelearian para que [yo] no fuera entregado á los Judíos; ahora, pues, mi reino no es de aquí.
37 Then Pilate said, You are a King, then? Jesus answered, You say that I am a King. For this I was born; and for this I came into the world, to give testimony to the truth. Whosoever is of the truth, hearkens to me.
Díjole entónces Pilato: ¿Luego Rey eres tú? Respondió Jesus: Tu dices que yo soy Rey: yo para esto he nacido, y para esto he venido al mundo, para dar testimonio á la verdad. Todo aquel que es [de la parte] de la verdad, oye mi voz.
38 Pilate asked him, What is truth? and so saying, went out again to the Jews, and said to them, For my part, I find nothing culpable in this man.
Dícele Pilato: ¿Qué cosa es verdad? Y como hubo dicho esto, salió otra vez á los Judíos, y díceles: Yo no hallo en él algun crimen.
39 But since it is customary that I release to you one at the passover, will you that I release to you the King of the Jews?
Empero vosotros teneis costumbre, que [yo] os suelte uno en la Pascua: ¿quereis, pues, que os suelte al Rey de los Judíos?
40 Then they all cried, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
Entónces todos dieron voces otra vez, diciendo: No á este, sino á Barrabas. Y Barrabas era ladron.
