Proverbs 10
1 Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son causes a father to rejoice, And a foolish son [is] an affliction to his mother.
| هَذِهِ أَمْثَالُ سُلَيْمَانَ: الابْنُ الْحَكِيمُ مَسَرَّةٌ لأَبِيهِ، وَالابْنُ الْجَاهِلُ حَسْرَةٌ لأُمِّهِ. | ١ |
2 Treasures of wickedness do not profit, And righteousness delivers from death.
| كُنُوزُ الْمَالِ الْحَرَامِ لَا تُجْدِي، وَلَكِنَّ الْحَقَّ يُنَجِّي مِنَ الْمَوْتِ. | ٢ |
3 YHWH does not cause the soul of the righteous to hunger, And He thrusts away the desire of the wicked.
| لَا يُجِيعُ الرَّبُّ نَفْسَ الصِّدِّيقِ، أَمَّا هَوَى الأَشْرَارِ فَيَنْبِذُهُ. | ٣ |
4 Poor [is] he who is working [with] a slothful hand, And the hand of the diligent makes rich.
| الْعَامِلُ بِيَدٍ مُسْتَرْخِيَةٍ يَفْتَقِرُ، أَمَّا الْيَدُ الْكَادِحَةُ فَتُغْنِي. | ٤ |
5 Whoever is gathering in summer [is] a wise son, Whoever is sleeping in harvest [is] a son causing shame.
| مَنْ يَجْمَعُ فِي الصَّيْفِ مَؤُونَتَهُ هُوَ ابْنٌ عَاقِلٌ، أَمَّا الَّذي يَنَامُ فِي مَوْسِمِ الْحَصَادِ فَهُوَ ابْنٌ مُخْزٍ. | ٥ |
6 Blessings [are] for the head of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked covers violence.
| تُتَوِّجُ الْبَرَكَاتُ رَأْسَ الصِّدِّيقِ، أَمَّا فَمُ الأَشْرَارِ فَيَطْغَى عَلَيْهِ الظُّلْمُ. | ٦ |
7 The remembrance of the righteous [is] for a blessing, And the name of the wicked rots.
| ذِكْرُ الصِّدِّيقِ بَرَكَةٌ، وَاسْمُ الأَشْرَارِ يَعْتَرِيهِ الْبِلَى. | ٧ |
8 The wise in heart accepts commands, And a talkative fool kicks.
| الْحَكِيمُ الْقَلْبِ يَتَقَبَّلُ الْوَصَايَا، وَالْمُتَبَجِّحُ الشَّفَتَيْنِ مَصِيرُهُ الْخَرَابُ. | ٨ |
9 Whoever is walking in integrity walks confidently, And whoever is perverting his ways is known.
| الَّذي يَسْلُكُ بِاسْتِقَامَةٍ يَسِيرُ مُطْمَئِنّاً، وَذُو الطُّرُقِ الْمُنْحَرِفَةِ يُفْتَضَحُ. | ٩ |
10 Whoever is winking the eye gives grief, And a talkative fool kicks.
| مَنْ يَغْمِزُ بِعَيْنِهِ مَكْراً يُوَلِّدُ غَمّاً. وَالْمُوَبِّخُ بِجُرْأَةٍ يَصْنَعُ سَلاماً. | ١٠ |
11 A fountain of life [is] the mouth of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked covers violence.
| فَمُ الصِّدِّيقِ يَنْبُعُ بِكَلامِ الْحَيَاةِ، أَمَّا فَمُ الشِّرِّيرِ فَيَطْغَى عَلَيْهِ الظُّلْمُ. | ١١ |
12 Hatred awakens contentions, And love covers over all transgressions.
| الْبَغْضَاءُ تُثِيرُ الْخُصُومَاتِ، وَالْمَحَبَّةُ تَسْتُرُ جَمِيعَ الذُّنُوبِ. | ١٢ |
13 Wisdom is found in the lips of the intelligent, And a rod [is] for the back of him who is lacking understanding.
| فِي شَفَتَيِ الْعَاقِلِ تَكْمُنُ حِكْمَةٌ أَمَّا الْعَصَا فَمِنْ نَصِيبِ ظَهْرِ الأَحْمَقِ. | ١٣ |
14 The wise lay up knowledge, and the mouth of a fool [is] near ruin.
| الْحُكَمَاءُ يَذْخَرُونَ الْمَعْرِفَةَ، أَمَّا فَمُ الْغَبِيِّ فَيَجْلِبُ الدَّمَارَ. | ١٤ |
15 The wealth of the rich [is] his strong city, The ruin of the poor [is] their poverty.
| ثَرْوَةُ الْغَنِيِّ قَلْعَتُهُ الْحَصِينَةُ، وَفِي فَقْرِ الْمَسَاكِينِ هَلاكُهُمْ. | ١٥ |
16 The wage of the righteous [is] for life, The increase of the wicked for sin.
| عَمَلُ الصِّدِّيقِ يُفْضِي إِلَى الْحَيَاةِ، وَرِبْحُ الشِّرِّيرِ يُؤَدِّي إِلَى الْخَطِيئَةِ. | ١٦ |
17 A traveler to life [is] he who is keeping instruction, And whoever is forsaking rebuke is erring.
| مَنْ يَعْمَلْ بِمُقْتَضَى التَّعْلِيمِ يَسِرْ فِي دَرْبِ الْحَيَاةِ، وَمَنْ يَرْفُضِ التَّأْدِيبَ يَضِلّ. | ١٧ |
18 Whoever is covering hatred with lying lips, And whoever is bringing out an evil report is a fool.
| مَنْ يُضْمِرْ الْبَغْضَاءَ تَنْطِقْ شَفَتَاهُ بِالْكَذِبِ، وَمَنْ جَاهَرَ بِالْمَذَمَّةِ فَهُوَ أَحْمَقُ. | ١٨ |
19 In the abundance of words transgression does not cease, And whoever is restraining his lips [is] wise.
| فِي كَثْرَةِ الْكَلامِ زَلّاتُ لِسَانٍ، وَمَنْ يَضْبِطُ شَفَتَيْهِ فَهُوَ عَاقِلٌ. | ١٩ |
20 The tongue of the righteous [is] chosen silver, The heart of the wicked—as a little thing.
| كَلامُ الصِّدِّيقِ كَالْفِضَّةِ الْمُصَفَّاةِ، وَقَلْبُ الشِّرِّيرِ يَخْلُو مِنْ كُلِّ قِيمَةٍ. | ٢٠ |
21 The lips of the righteous delight many, And fools die for lack of heart.
| كَلامُ الصِّدِّيقِ يُفِيدُ كَثِيرِينَ، أَمَّا الْحَمْقَى فَيَمُوتُونَ مِنْ سُوءِ الْفَهْمِ. | ٢١ |
22 The blessing of YHWH—it makes rich, And He adds no grief with it.
| فِي بَرَكَةِ الرَّبِّ غِنىً وَلا تُضِيفُ إِلَيْهَا الْمَشَقَّةُ تَعَباً. | ٢٢ |
23 To execute inventions [is] as play to a fool, And wisdom to a man of understanding.
| ارْتِكَابُ الْفَاحِشَةِ عِنْدَ الْجَاهِلِ كَاللَّعِبِ، أَمَّا حُسْنُ التَّصَرُّفِ فَمَسَرَّةٌ لِلْحَكِيمِ. | ٢٣ |
24 The feared thing of the wicked meets him, And the desire of the righteous is given.
| مَا يَخْشَى مِنْهُ الشِّرِّيرُ يُقْبِلُ إِلَيْهِ، وَشَهْوَةُ الصِّدِّيقيِنَ تُمْنَحُ لَهُمْ. | ٢٤ |
25 As the passing by of a windstorm, So the wicked is not, And the righteous is a perpetual foundation.
| يَتَلاشَى الشِّرِّيرُ كَمَا تَتَلاشَى الزَّوْبَعَةُ، أَمَّا الصِّدِّيقُ فَيَخْلُدُ إِلَى الأَبَدِ. | ٢٥ |
26 As vinegar to the teeth, And as smoke to the eyes, So [is] the slothful to those sending him.
| الْكَسُولُ لِمَنْ أَرْسَلَهُ كَالْخَلِّ لِلأَسْنَانِ أَوْ كَالدُّخَانِ لِلْعَيْنَيْنِ. | ٢٦ |
27 The fear of YHWH adds days, And the years of the wicked are shortened.
| تَقْوَى الرَّبِّ تُطِيلُ أَيَّامَ الْحَيَاةِ، أَمَّا سِنُو الشِّرِّيرِ فَتُقْصَرُ. | ٢٧ |
28 The hope of the righteous [is] joyful, And the expectation of the wicked perishes.
| الْبَهْجَةُ هِيَ أَمَلُ الصِّدِّيقِ، وَرَجَاءُ الأَشْرَارِ مَآلُهُ الفَنَاءُ. | ٢٨ |
29 The way of YHWH [is] strength to the perfect, And ruin to workers of iniquity.
| طَرِيقُ الرَّبِّ هُوَ مَلاذٌ لِلْمُسْتَقِيمِينَ، وَدَمَارٌ لِفَاعِلِي الإِثْمِ. | ٢٩ |
30 The righteous is not moved for all time, And the wicked do not inhabit the earth.
| لَا يُزَحْزَحُ الصِّدِّيقُ أَبَداً، أَمَّا الأَشْرَارُ فَلا يَسْكُنُونَ الأَرْضَ. | ٣٠ |
31 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, And the tongue of contrariness is cut out.
| مِنْ فَمِ الصِّدِّيقِ تَفِيضُ الْحِكْمَةُ، وَاللِّسَانُ الْمُخَاتِلُ يُقْطَعُ. | ٣١ |
32 The lips of the righteous know a pleasing thing, And the mouth of the wicked perverseness!
| شَفَتَا الصِّدِّيقِ تُدْرِكَانِ مَا هُوَ حَقٌّ، فَتَنْطِقَانِ بِهِ، وَفَمُ الشِّرِّيرِ لَا يَتَكَلَّمُ إِلّا بِالْبَاطِلِ. | ٣٢ |
