Matthew 22
1 And Jesus answering, again spoke to them in allegories, saying,
UJesu wasephendula wabuya wakhuluma labo ngemifanekiso, wathi:
2 “The kingdom of the heavens was likened to a man, a king, who made wedding feasts for his son,
Umbuso wamazulu ufananiswa lomuntu oyinkosi, owenzela indodana yakhe idili lomtshado;
3 and he sent forth his servants to call those having been called to the wedding feasts, and they were not willing to come.
wasethuma inceku zakhe ukuthi zibize abanxusiweyo emtshadweni, kodwa kabavumanga ukubuya.
4 Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Say to those who have been called: Behold, I prepared my early meal, my oxen and the fatlings have been killed, and all things [are] ready, come to the wedding feasts;
Wabuya wathuma ezinye inceku, esithi: Batsheleni abanxusiweyo ukuthi: Khangelani, sengilungisile ukudla kwami kwemini, inkabi zami lokunonileyo sekuhlatshiwe, izinto zonke sezilungile; wozani emtshadweni.
5 and they, having disregarded [it], went away, one to his own field, and the other to his merchandise;
Kodwa kabananzanga, bazihambela, omunye ensimini yakhe, omunye ekuthengiselaneni kwakhe;
6 and the rest, having laid hold on his servants, mistreated and slew [them].
abaseleyo basebezibamba inceku zakhe baziphatha kubi bazibulala.
7 And the king having heard, was angry, and having sent forth his soldiers, he destroyed those murderers, and their city he set on fire;
Kodwa kwathi inkosi ikuzwa lokho yathukuthela, yathuma amabutho ayo yabhubhisa labobabulali, yatshisa umuzi wabo.
8 then he says to his servants, The wedding feast indeed is ready, and those called were not worthy,
Yasisithi encekwini zayo: Umtshado usulungile, kodwa abanxusiweyo bebengafanelanga.
9 be going, then, on to the cross-ways, and as many as you may find, call to the wedding feasts.
Ngakho yanini emahlanganweni ezindlela, njalo bonke elingabathola, libabizele emtshadweni.
10 And those servants, having gone forth to the ways, gathered all, as many as they found, both bad and good, and the wedding was filled with those reclining.
Lezonceku zaseziphuma zaya ezindleleni zabutha bonke ezabatholayo, ababi kanye labalungileyo; indlu yomtshado yasigcwala ngabahleziyo.
11 And the king having come in to view those reclining, saw there a man not clothed with wedding clothes,
Kwathi inkosi ingena ukukhangela ababehlezi ekudleni yabona khona umuntu owayengembathanga isembatho somtshado;
12 and he says to him, Friend, how did you come in here, not having wedding clothes? And he was speechless.
yasisithi kuye: Mngane, ungene njani lapha ungelasembatho somtshado? Kodwa yena waqunywa umlomo.
13 Then the king said to the servants, Having bound his feet and hands, take him up and cast forth into the outer darkness, there will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth;
Inkosi yasisithi ezincekwini: Mbopheni inyawo lezandla, limsuse limphosele emnyameni ongaphandle; lapho kuzakuba khona ukukhala lokugedla amazinyo.
14 for many are called, and few chosen.”
Ngoba banengi ababiziweyo, kodwa balutshwana abakhethiweyo.
15 Then the Pharisees having gone, took counsel how they might ensnare Him in words,
Khona-ke abaFarisi basuka, bacebisana ngokuthi bangamthiya njani ekukhulumeni.
16 and they send to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we have known that You are true, and the way of God in truth You teach, and You are not caring for anyone, for You do not look to the face of men;
Basebethuma kuye abafundi babo kanye labakaHerodi, besithi: Mfundisi, siyazi ukuthi wena uqotho, ufundisa indlela kaNkulunkulu ngeqiniso, kawukhathaleli muntu, ngoba kawunanzi isimo sabantu.
17 tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?”
Ngakho sitshele, wena ucabangani? Kuvunyelwe yini ukuthela kuKesari, kumbe hatshi?
18 And Jesus having known their wickedness, said, “Why do you tempt Me, hypocrites?
Kodwa uJesu ebazi ububi babo wathi: Bazenzisi, lingilingelani?
19 Show Me the tribute-coin.” And they brought to Him a denarius;
Ngitshengisani imali yokuthela. Basebeletha kuye udenariyo.
20 and He says to them, “Whose [is] this image and the inscription?”
Wasesithi kubo: Ngokabani lumfanekiso lalumbhalo?
21 They say to Him, “Caesar’s”; then He says to them, “Render therefore the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God”;
Bathi: NgokaKesari. Wasesithi kubo: Ngakho mnikeni uKesari izinto zikaKesari; loNkulunkulu izinto zikaNkulunkulu.
22 and having heard they wondered, and having left Him they went away.
Kwathi sebezwile bamangala; bamtshiya bahamba.
23 In that day there came near to Him Sadducees who are saying there is not a resurrection, and they questioned Him, saying,
Ngalolosuku kweza kuye abaSadusi, abathi kakukho ukuvuka kwabafileyo, basebembuza,
24 “Teacher, Moses said if anyone may die having no children, his brother will marry his wife, and will raise up seed to his brother.
besithi: Mfundisi, uMozisi wathi: Uba umuntu esifa engelabantwana, umfowabo uzamthatha umkakhe, amvusele umfowabo inzalo.
25 And there were with us seven brothers, and the first having married died, and having no seed, he left his wife to his brother;
Kwakukhona phakathi kwethu izelamani eziyisikhombisa; owokuqala wasethatha umfazi wafa; futhi engelanzalo, watshiya umkakhe kumfowabo.
26 in like manner also the second, and the third, to the seventh,
Kwaba njalo lowesibili, lowesithathu, kwaze kwaba kowesikhombisa.
27 and last of all the woman also died;
Kwathi emva kwabo bonke kwafa lomfazi.
28 therefore in the resurrection, of which of the seven will she be wife—for all had her?”
Ngakho ekuvukeni kwabafileyo, uzakuba ngumkabani kwabayisikhombisa? Ngoba bonke babelaye.
29 And Jesus answering said to them, “You go astray, not knowing the Writings, nor the power of God;
Kodwa uJesu waphendula wathi kubo: Liduhile, lingayazi imibhalo, loba amandla kaNkulunkulu;
30 for in the resurrection they do not marry, nor are they given in marriage, but are as messengers of God in Heaven.
ngoba ekuvukeni kwabafileyo kabathathani, kabendiswa, kodwa banjengengilosi zikaNkulunkulu ezulwini.
31 And concerning the resurrection of the dead, did you not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,
Kodwa mayelana lokuvuka kwabafileyo, kalifundanga yini okwakhulunywa kini nguNkulunkulu, esithi:
32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not a God of dead men, but of living.”
Mina nginguNkulunkulu kaAbrahama, loNkulunkulu kaIsaka, loNkulunkulu kaJakobe? UNkulunkulu kayisuye uNkulunkulu wabafileyo, kodwa owabaphilayo.
33 And having heard, the multitudes were astonished at His teaching;
Kwathi amaxuku ekuzwa amangala kakhulu ngokufundisa kwakhe.
34 and the Pharisees, having heard that He silenced the Sadducees, were gathered together to Him;
Kwathi abaFarisi, sebezwile ukuthi uJesu ubaqume umlomo abaSadusi, babuthana ndawonye.
35 and one of them, a lawyer, questioned, tempting Him, and saying,
Lomunye wabo, isazumthetho, wambuza, emlinga, esithi:
36 “Teacher, which [is] the great command in the Law?”
Mfundisi, yiwuphi umlayo omkhulu emthethweni?
37 And Jesus said to him, “You will love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your understanding—
UJesu wasesithi kuye: Wothanda iNkosi uNkulunkulu wakho, ngenhliziyo yakho yonke, langomphefumulo wakho wonke, langengqondo yakho yonke;
38 this is a first and great command;
yiwo lowo umlayo owokuqala lomkhulu.
39 and the second [is] like to it: You will love your neighbor as yourself;
Lowesibili ufanana lawo uthi: Wothanda umakhelwane wakho njengalokhu uzithanda wena.
40 on these—the two commands—all the Law and the Prophets hang.”
Kuleyomilayo emibili kweyeme umthetho wonke labaprofethi.
41 And the Pharisees having been gathered together, Jesus questioned them,
Kwathi sebebuthene abaFarisi, uJesu wababuza,
42 saying, “What do you think concerning the Christ? Of whom is He Son?” They say to Him, “Of David.”
esithi: Licabangani ngoKristu? Uyindodana kabani? Bathi kuye: NgekaDavida.
43 He says to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him Lord, saying,
Wathi kubo: Pho uDavida wambiza njani ekuMoya ngokuthi yiNkosi, esithi:
44 The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, Until I may make Your enemies Your footstool?
INkosi yathi eNkosini yami: Hlala ngakwesokunene sami, ngize ngenze izitha zakho zibe yisenabelo senyawo zakho?
45 If then David calls Him Lord, how is He his son?”
Ngakho uba uDavida embiza ngokuthi yiNkosi, uyiNdodana yakhe njani?
46 And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did any dare question Him from that day [on].
Njalo kwakungekho owayengamphendula ilizwi; kusukela ngalolosuku kakwabe kusaba khona umuntu olesibindi sokumbuza.
