< Proverbs 1 >
1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, the king of Israel:
Dagiti proverbio ni Solomon nga anak ni David, ti ari ti Israel.
2 To know wisdom and instruction; to comprehend the sayings of understanding;
Mangisuro dagitoy a proverbio iti kinasirib ken sursuro, mangisuro kadagiti sasao iti pudno a pannakaawat,
3 To accept the instruction of intelligence, righteousness, and justice, and equity;
tapno maawatyo koma ti pannakailinteg tapno agbiagkayo babaen iti panangaramid iti umno, nalinteg, ken maiparbeng.
4 To give to the simple prudence, to the youth knowledge and discretion.
Mangted met dagitoy a proverbio iti kinasirib kadagiti saan a nasuroan, ken mangted iti pannakaammo ken kinatimbeng kadagiti agtutubo.
5 The wise will hear, and will increase [his] information; and the man of understanding will obtain wise counsels:
Dumngeg koma dagiti nasirib a tattao ket manayunan ti pannakasursuroda, ken makagun-od koma dagiti mannakaawat a tattao iti pannakatarabay,
6 To understand a proverb, and a sage sentence; the words of the wise, and their riddles.
tapno maawatanda dagiti proverbio, pagsasao, ken dagiti sasao dagiti nasirib a tattao ken dagiti burburtiada.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: wisdom and instruction fools [alone] despise.
Ti panagbuteng kenni Yahweh ket isu ti pangrugian iti pannakaammo— laisen dagiti maag ti kinasirib ken disiplina.
8 Hear, my son, the instruction of thy father, and cast not off the teaching of thy mother;
Anakko, denggem dagiti sursuro ti amam, ken saanmo a baybay-an dagiti annuroten ti inam;
9 For a wreath of grace are they unto thy head, and chains for thy throat.
agbalindanto a makaay-ayo a balangat ti ulom ken kuwintas iti tengngedmo.
10 My son, if sinners wish to entice thee, consent thou not.
Anakko, no awisendaka dagiti managbasol iti basolda, agkedkedka a sumurot kadakuada.
11 If they should say, Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us watch in concealment for the uselessly innocent;
No kunaenda, “Kumuyogka kadakami, mangpadaantayo iti patayentayo, aglemmengtayo ket mangdaruptayo lattan kadagiti inosente a tattao.
12 We will swallow them up like the grave alive; and the men of integrity, as those that go down into the pit; (Sheol )
Alun-onentayo ida a sibibiag, kas iti panangala ti sheol kadagiti nasalun-at, ket pagbalinentayo ida a kas kadagiti matmatnag iti abut. (Sheol )
13 We shall find all [kinds of] precious wealth, we will fill our houses with booty;
Makasaraktayo kadagiti amin a kita dagiti napapateg a banbanag; punnoentayo dagiti balbalaytayo kadagiti tinakawtayo kadagiti dadduma.
14 Thy lot must thou cast in our midst; one purse shall be for us all:
Makikappengka kadakami; pagbalinentayo a maymaysa ti supottayo.”
15 My son, walk not thou on the way with them; withhold thy foot from their path;
Anakko, saanka a makipagna kadakuada iti dayta a dalan; saanmo nga idisdiso ta sakam iti pagpagnaanda;
16 For their feet run after evil, and they make haste to shed blood.
tumartaray dagiti sakada iti kinadakes ken agdardarasda a mangpasayasay iti dara.
17 For uselessly is the net spread out before the eyes of every winged bird:
Ta awan serserbina nga agipakatka iti iket a mangtiliw iti billit kabayatan a kumitkita ti billit.
18 While they lie in wait for their [own] blood; they watch in concealment for their [own] lives.
Agpadpadaan dagitoy a tattao a mangpapatayto met laeng kadagiti mismo a bagbagida— mangipakpakatda iti palab-og para kadagiti mismo a bagbagida.
19 So are the paths of every one that is greedy after [unlawful] gain; it taketh away the life of those that own it.
Kasta dagiti wagas ti amin a tao a manggunggun-od kadagiti kinabaknang babaen iti kinakillo; dagiti banag a nagun-od babaen iti saan a maiparbeng a wagas ti mangpukawto kadagiti biag dagiti kumpet iti daytoy.
20 Wisdom crieth loudly without; in the public places she uttereth her voice;
Agpukpukkaw ti kinasirib iti kalsada, ipigpigsana ti timekna kadagiti nagtengngaan ti ili;
21 At the corner of noisy streets she calleth, at the entrances of gates; in the city she sayeth her speeches:
aglaawlaaw isuna iti nagsasabatan dagiti kalsada, iti pagserkan dagiti ruangan ti siudad ket kunkunana,
22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners take their delight in scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
“Dakayo nga awanan iti kinasirib, kasano pay kapaut aya ti panangay-ayatyo iti saanyo a maaw-awatan? Dakayo a mananglais, kasano pay kabayag aya ti panangragragsakyo iti pananglalaisyo, ken dakayo a maag, kasano pay kabayag aya a gurguraenyo ti kinalaing?
23 Turn back to my admonition: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
Denggenyo ti panangbabalawko; ibukbukkonto dagiti kapanunotak kadakayo; ipakaammokto dagiti sasaok kadakayo.
24 Whereas I called, and ye refused; I stretched out my hand, and no man was attentive;
Immawagak ket saankayo a dimngeg; Inyunnatko ti imak, ngem awan ti nangikaskaso.
25 And ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would not accept my admonition:
Ngem saanyo nga inkankano dagiti amin a sursurok ken saanyo nga impangag ti panangtubtubngarko.
26 [Therefore] I also will truly laugh at your calamity; I will deride [you] when your terror cometh;
Katawaakto ti pannakadidigrayo, laisenkayonto inton dumteng ti panagbuteng—
27 When your terror cometh like the tempest-cloud, and your calamity hasteneth like a whirlwind; when there come upon you distress and affliction.
inton dumteng a kasla bagyo ti kasta unay a butengyo ket iyanginnakayo ti didigra a kas iti alipugpog, inton dumteng ti panagrigat ken panagtuok kadakayo.
28 Then will they call me, but I will not answer; they will seek me earnestly, but they shall not find me;
Iti kasta ket awagandakto, ngem saanakto a sumungbat; kastanto unay ti panangawagda kaniak, ngem saandakto a masarakan.
29 For the reason that they hated knowledge, and the fear of the Lord they did not choose;
Gapu ta kagurada ti pannakaammo ken saanda a pinili ti agbuteng kenni Yahweh,
30 [That] they would not attend to my counsel: [that] they rejected all my admonition.
saanda a sinurot ti sursurok, ken linaisda amin a panangilintegko.
31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and from their own counsels shall they be satisfied.
Kanendanto ti bunga dagiti aramidda, ket mapnekdanto babaen iti bunga dagiti panggepda.
32 For the defection of the simple will slay them, and the prosperity of fools will cause them to be lost.
Mapapatayto dagiti saan a nasuroan inton tumallikudda, ket ti di panangikaskaso dagiti maag ti mangdadaelto kadakuada.
33 But he that hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be at rest from the dread of evil.
Ngem ti siasinoman a dumngeg kaniak ket agbiagto a sitatalged ken aginananto a sitatalged nga awanan iti panagbuteng iti didigra.”
