< Proverbs 12 >
1 Whoso loveth correction loveth knowledge; but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
Hvo, som elsker Tugt, elsker Kundskab; men hvo, som hader Revselse, er ufornuftig.
2 The good obtaineth favor of the Lord; but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
Den gode vinder Velbehag af Herren; men den rænkefulde Mand finder Fordømmelse.
3 A man cannot be firmly established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous will not be moved.
Et Menneske befæstes ikke ved Ugudelighed; men de retfærdiges Rod rokkes ikke.
4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but as rottenness in his bones is one that bringeth shame [on him].
En duelig Hustru er sin Mands Krone; men naar hun beskæmmer ham, er hun som Raaddenhed i hans Ben.
5 The thoughts of the righteous are justice: the best counsels of the wicked are deceit.
De retfærdiges Tanker ere Ret; de ugudeliges Raadslag er Svig.
6 The words of the wicked are of lying in wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright will deliver them.
De ugudeliges Tale er om at lure paa Blod; men de oprigtiges Mund bringer Redning.
7 The wicked are suddenly overthrown, and are no more; but the house of the righteous will endure.
De ugudelige skulle omkastes, saa at de ikke ere mere til; men de retfærdiges Hus skal bestaa.
8 In accordance with his intelligence is a man praised; but he that is perverse of heart will come to be despised.
En Mand roses efter sin Forstands Beskaffenhed; men den, som er forvendt i Hjertet, bliver til Foragt.
9 Better is he that is lightly esteemed who hath a servant, than he that aimeth after honor, and lacketh bread.
Den, som er ringe agtet og har en Træl, er bedre faren end den, som ærer sig selv og fattes Brød.
10 A righteous man careth for the life of his beast; but the mercies of the wicked are cruelty.
Den retfærdige har Omsorg for sit Kvægs Liv; men de ugudeliges Barmhjertighed er Grusomhed.
11 He that tilleth his ground will be satisfied with bread; but he that runneth after idle persons is void of sense.
Den, som dyrker sin Jord, mættes med Brød; men den, som løber efter Løsgængere, fattes Forstand.
12 The wicked is covetous for the net of evil men; but [God] giveth root to the righteous.
Den ugudelige attraar Snaren, der er lagt for de onde; men de retfærdige slaa Rod.
13 In the transgression of his lips is the snare of the wicked; but the righteous cometh out of distress.
I Læbers Forsyndelse er der en Snare for den onde; men den retfærdige skal komme ud af Angest.
14 From the fruit of his mouth will a man be satisfied with what is good; and the recompense of a man's hands will be brought back unto him.
En Mand skal mættes med godt af sin Munds Frugt, og hvad et Menneskes Hænder have fortjent, skal gengældes ham.
15 The way of a fool is straight in his own eyes; but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
Daarens Vej er ret i hans egne Øjne, men den, som hører efter Raad, er viis.
16 The wrath of the fool is known on the very day; but he that concealeth the disgrace is prudent.
Daarens Fortørnelse giver sig til Kende samme Dag; men den, som skjuler Forsmædelse er klog.
17 He that uttereth truth announceth righteousness; but a false witness, deceit.
Den, som aander Trofasthed, forkynder, hvad Ret er; men et falsk Vidne forkynder Svig.
18 There is some one that useth words [which are] like the thrusts of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is healing.
Der er den, som taler ubetænksomme Ord, der ere som Kaardestik; men de vises Tunge er Lægedom.
19 The lip of truth will stand firm for ever; but only for a moment the tongue of falsehood.
Sandheds Læbe bestaar altid; men Falskheds Tunge bliver kun et Øjeblik.
20 Deceit is in the heart of those that contrive evil; but for the counsellors of peace there is joy.
Der er Svig i deres Hjerte; som optænke ondt; men for dem, som raade til Fred, er der Glæde.
21 No wrong can come unawares to the righteous; but the wicked are full of evil.
Den retfærdige skal ingen som helst Ulykke vederfares; men de ugudelige have fuldt op af ondt.
22 An abomination of the Lord are lips of falsehood; but they that deal in faithfulness [obtain] his favor.
Falske Læber ere Herren en Vederstyggelighed; men de, som handle trolig, ere ham en Velbehagelighed.
23 A prudent man concealeth [his] knowledge; but the heart of fools proclaimeth [their] folly.
Et klogt Menneske skjuler sin Kundskab; men Daarers Hjerte udraaber deres Daarskab.
24 The hand of the diligent will bear rule; but the indolent must become tributary.
De flittiges Haand skal komme til at herske; men Ladhed skal vorde trælbunden.
25 If there be care in the heart of man, let him suppress it; and a good word will change it into joy.
Bekymring i en Mands Hjerte nedbøjer det; men et godt Ord glæder det.
26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor; but the way of the wicked leadeth them astray.
Den retfærdige vejleder sin Ven; men de ugudeliges Vej vildleder dem selv.
27 The indolent roasteth not that which he hath caught in hunting; but the most precious wealth of man is diligence.
Den lade skal ikke stege sin Jagt; men den flittige er en dyrebar Skat for et Menneske.
28 On the path of righteousness there is life; and on her pathway there is immortality,
Paa Retfærdigheds Sti er Liv, og dens banede Vej er ikke til Døden.
