Judges 5
1 Then sang Deborah with Barak the son of Abino'am on that day, saying,
Ce jour-là, Déborah et Barak, fils d'Abinoam, chantèrent, en disant,
2 When depravity had broken out in Israel, then did the people offer themselves willingly; [therefore] praise ye the Lord.
« Parce que les dirigeants ont pris la tête en Israël, parce que le peuple s'est offert de plein gré, sois béni, Yahvé!
3 Hear, O kings; give ear, O princes; I—unto the Lord will I sing; I will sing praise to the Lord, the God of Israel.
« Écoutez, vous, les rois! Écoutez, princes! Moi, même moi, je chanterai à Yahvé. Je chanterai les louanges de Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël.
4 Lord, at thy going forth out of Seir, at thy marching along out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, also the heavens dropped, also the clouds dropped water.
« Yahvé, quand tu es sorti de Séir, quand vous avez marché hors du champ d'Édom, la terre a tremblé, le ciel aussi. Oui, les nuages ont laissé tomber de l'eau.
5 The mountains melted away because of the presence of the Lord, yonder Sinai, because of the presence of the Lord, the God of Israel.
Les montagnes tremblaient devant la présence de Yahvé, même le Sinaï en présence de Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël.
6 In the days of Shamgar the son of 'Anath, in the days of Ja'el, the highways were unoccupied, and those who travelled on roads walked through crooked by-paths.
« Au temps de Shamgar, fils d'Anath, à l'époque de Jaël, les routes étaient inoccupées. Les voyageurs marchaient dans des chemins de traverse.
7 Desolate were the open towns in Israel, they were desolate, until that I arose, Deborah, that I arose a mother in Israel.
Les chefs ont cessé d'exister en Israël. Ils ont cessé jusqu'à ce que moi, Deborah, je me lève; Jusqu'à ce que je devienne une mère en Israël.
8 They chose new gods, then was there war in the gates: was there a shield seen or a spear among forty thousand in Israel?
Ils ont choisi de nouveaux dieux. Puis la guerre était aux portes. A-t-on vu un bouclier ou une lance parmi quarante mille personnes en Israël?
9 My heart [belongeth] to the governors of Israel, that offered themselves willingly among the people: praise ye the Lord.
Mon cœur se tourne vers les gouverneurs d'Israël, qui se sont offerts volontairement parmi le peuple. Bénissez Yahvé!
10 Ye that ride on white asses, ye that sit in judgment, and ye who walk on the way, utter praise!
« Parlez, vous qui montez des ânes blancs, vous qui êtes assis sur de riches tapis, et vous qui marchez sur le chemin.
11 [Urged on] by the voice of those who divide [the flocks] between the watering wells, there shall they rehearse the benefits of the Lord, the benefits toward his open towns in Israel; [for] now go down [again] to the gates the people of the Lord.
Loin du bruit des archers, dans les lieux où l'on puise l'eau, ils y répéteront les actes justes de Yahvé, les actes justes de son règne en Israël. « Alors le peuple de Yahvé descendit aux portes.
12 Awake, awake, Deborah! awake, awake, utter a song! up, Barak, and lead away thy captives, son of Abino'am.
« Réveille-toi, réveille-toi, Déborah! Réveillez-vous, réveillez-vous, chantez une chanson! Lève-toi, Barak, et emmène tes captifs, fils d'Abinoam.
13 Then obtained dominion a few that had escaped for the nobles among the people—the Lord gave me dominion over the mighty.
« Alors un reste des nobles et du peuple descendit. Yahvé est descendu pour moi contre les puissants.
14 They whose root is out of Ephraim were against 'Amalek; after thee, Benjamin, with thy armies; out of Machir came down lawgivers, and out of Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer.
Ceux dont la racine est en Amalek sont sortis d'Ephraïm, après toi, Benjamin, parmi tes peuples. Les gouverneurs descendent de Machir. Ceux qui manient le bâton du maréchal sont venus de Zabulon.
15 And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah; yea Issachar, the support of Barak; into the valley he hastened down in his train; [but] at the streams of Reuben there were great thoughts of heart.
Les princes d'Issachar étaient avec Déborah. Comme Issachar, Barak l'était aussi. Ils se sont précipités dans la vallée à ses pieds. Par les cours d'eau de Reuben, il y avait de grandes résolutions de cœur.
16 Why didst thou sit among the sheepfolds to hear the bleatings of the flocks? At the streams of Reuben there were great searchings of heart.
Pourquoi vous êtes-vous assis parmi les bergeries? Pour entendre le sifflement des troupeaux? Aux cours d'eau de Reuben, il y avait de grandes recherches dans le cœur.
17 Gil'ad abode beyond the Jordan; and Dan—why would he tarry in ships? Asher remained on the seashore, and abode near his bays.
Galaad vivait au-delà du Jourdain. Pourquoi Dan est-il resté dans les navires? Asher s'est assis tranquillement au bord de la mer, et vivait près de ses ruisseaux.
18 Zebulun is a people that jeoparded its life unto death, and Naphtali—on the high places of the [battle] field.
Zabulon était un peuple qui mettait sa vie en danger jusqu'à la mort; Nephtali aussi, sur les hauts lieux des champs.
19 There came kings, [and] fought, then fought the kings of Canaan, in Ta'anach by the waters of Megiddo: gain of money they took not away.
« Les rois sont venus et ont combattu, puis les rois de Canaan ont combattu à Taanach, près des eaux de Megiddo. Ils n'ont pas pris de butin en argent.
20 From heaven they fought—the stars in their courses fought against Sissera.
Du ciel, les étoiles se sont battues. A partir de leurs cours, ils ont combattu Sisera.
21 The stream of Kishon swept them away, that ancient stream, the stream of Kishon: step along, O my soul, in victorious strength.
Le fleuve Kishon les a emportés, cette ancienne rivière, la rivière Kishon. Mon âme, marche avec force.
22 Then were crushed the hoofs of the horses, through the prancings, the prancings of their mighty ones.
Alors les sabots des chevaux claquèrent à cause des cabrioles, le cabriolage de leurs forts.
23 Curse ye Meroz, saith the messenger of the Lord, yea, curse ye bitterly its inhabitants; because they came not to the help of the Lord, to the help of the Lord among the mighty.
« Maudissez Méroz », dit l'ange de Yahvé. « Maudissez amèrement ses habitants, parce qu'ils ne sont pas venus pour aider Yahvé, pour aider Yahvé contre les puissants.
24 Blessed above [other] women shall be Ja'el the wife of Cheber the Kenite, above [other] women [dwelling] in the tent may she be blessed.
« Jaël sera béni par-dessus les femmes, l'épouse de Héber le Kenite; Elle sera bénie par rapport aux femmes de la tente.
25 Water he asked, milk she gave [him]: in a lordly dish she brought him cream.
Il a demandé de l'eau. Elle lui a donné du lait. Elle lui a apporté du beurre dans un plat seigneurial.
26 Her hand she put forth to the nail, and her right hand to the laborious workmen's hammer; and she hammered Sissera, she struck his head, and crushed and smote through his temple.
Elle a mis sa main sur le piquet de la tente, et sa main droite au marteau de l'ouvrier. Avec le marteau, elle a frappé Sisera. Elle a frappé à travers sa tête. Oui, elle a percé et frappé à travers ses tempes.
27 Between her feet he bent, he fell, he lay; between her feet he bent, he fell: where he had bent, there he fell down, bereft of life.
A ses pieds, il s'est incliné, il est tombé, il s'est couché. A ses pieds, il s'est incliné, il est tombé. Là où il s'est incliné, il est tombé raide mort.
28 Out of the window looked and moaned the mother of Sissera, through the lattice, Why tarrieth his chariot so long in coming? why lag the wheels of his chariot?
« Par la fenêtre, elle regarda dehors et cria: La mère de Sisera a regardé à travers le treillis. Pourquoi son char tarde-t-il à venir? Pourquoi les roues de ses chars attendent-elles?
29 The wise among her ladies answered her, she also returned a reply to herself.
Ses dames sages lui répondirent, Oui, elle s'est répondu à elle-même,
30 Will they not find, —divide booty? one maiden, two maidens for every man, a booty of colored garments for Sissera, a booty of colored embroidered garments, colored, double-worked garments round the necks of the captives!
« N'ont-ils pas trouvé, n'ont-ils pas partagé le butin? Une dame, deux dames pour chaque homme; à Sisera un butin de vêtements teints, un butin de vêtements teints et brodés, de vêtements teints brodés des deux côtés, sur le cou du butin?
31 Thus may perish all thy enemies, O Lord; but may those that love him be as the rising of the sun in his might. And the land had rest forty years.
« Que tous tes ennemis périssent donc, Yahvé, mais que ceux qui l'aiment soient comme le soleil quand il se lève dans sa force. » Ensuite, le pays s'est reposé pendant quarante ans.
