Jeremiah 51
1 Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will awaken against Babylon, and against those that dwell in the midst of my opponents, a destroying wind;
Esto es lo que dice el Señor: Miren, voy a levantar un viento destructor contra Babilonia y contra el pueblo de Babilonia.
2 And I will send out unto Babylon fanners, and they shall fan her, and shall empty out her land; for they shall be against her round about on the day of trouble.
Enviaré soldados extranjeros a atacar a Babilonia para arrasar con ella y convertirán su país en un desierto; la atacarán desde todas las direcciones cuando llegue su momento de dificultad.
3 Let the archer come against any one that bendeth his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his armor: and spare ye not her young men: destroy ye utterly all her host.
El arquero no necesita usar su arco; el soldado de infantería no necesita ponerse su armadura. No perdones a sus jóvenes soldados; destina todo su ejército a la destrucción!
4 And the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are pierced through, in her streets.
Caerán heridos en sus calles, muertos en el país de Babilonia.
5 For not widowed are Israel and Judah of their God, of the Lord of hosts; for the land of those was filled with guiltiness against the Holy One of Israel.
Israel y Judá no han sido abandonados por su Dios, el Señor Todopoderoso, aunque pecaron contra el Santo de Israel en todo su país.
6 Flee ye out of the midst of Babylon, and save ye every man his life: perish not for her iniquity; for this is a time of vengeance unto the Lord; a recompense is he paying out unto her.
¡Escapen de Babilonia! ¡Huyan por sus vidas! No se dejen atrapar por su castigo para que no mueran, porque este es el momento en que el Señor le pagará por sus pecados.
7 A golden cup hath Babylon been in the hand of the Lord, that made drunken all the earth: of her wine have nations drunk; therefore are the nations rendered mad.
En otro tiempo, Babilonia era una copa de oro que el Señor tenía en su mano. Ella emborrachó a toda la tierra. Las naciones bebieron su vino y por eso se volvieron locas.
8 Suddenly is Babylon fallen and broken: wail ye for her; fetch balm for her wound, perhaps she may be healed.
Ahora, de repente, Babilonia ha caído. Ha sido hecha pedazos. Lloren por ella; consigan algún tratamiento para su dolor. Tal vez pueda ser curada.
9 “We would have healed Babylon, but she was not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one unto his own country; for her punishment reacheth unto the heavens, and it is lifted up even to the skies.”
“Tratamos de curarla, pero no se pudo. Así que renuncien a ella. Todos debemos volver a casa, al lugar de donde venimos. La noticia de su castigo ha llegado a todas partes, hasta el cielo.
10 The Lord hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us relate in Zion the work of the Lord our God.
El Señor nos ha animado y apoyado. Vamos, digamos a la gente de Jerusalén lo que el Señor ha hecho por nosotros”.
11 Make bright the arrows; fill the quivers: the Lord hath awakened the spirit of the kings of Media; for against Babylon is his intention, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance for his temple.
¡Afilen las flechas! Recojan los escudos! El Señor ha animado a los reyes de los medos, porque su plan está dirigido a la destrucción de Babilonia. El Señor les está pagando por lo que le sucedió a su Templo.
12 Against the walls of Babylon lift up the standard, strengthen the watch, set up the watchmen, make ready the ambushes; for the Lord hath both intended and done what he had spoken against the inhabitants of Babylon.
Levanten la bandera de señal para atacar las murallas de Babilonia; refuercen la guardia; hagan que los centinelas ocupen sus puestos; preparen la emboscada. El Señor planeó y cumplió sus amenazas contra el pueblo de Babilonia.
13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, great in treasures, thy end is come, the full measure of thy selfish robbery.
Ustedes, que viven junto a muchas aguas y tienen tantas riquezas, este es el momento de su fin: su vida será cortada.
14 Sworn hath the Lord of hosts by himself, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with locusts: and they shall lift up the battle-cry against thee.
El Señor Todopoderoso juró con su propia vida, diciendo: Me aseguraré de llenarte de tantos soldados enemigos que serán como langostas. Gritarán al celebrar su victoria sobre ti.
15 He made the earth by his power, he established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding he stretched out the heavens.
Fue Dios quien hizo la tierra con su poder. Creó el mundo con su sabiduría y con su entendimiento puso los cielos.
16 At the sound when he giveth a multitude of waters in the heavens, and causeth clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth; when he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures:
Las aguas de los cielos llueven con estruendo por orden suya. Él hace que las nubes se eleven por toda la tierra. Hace que el rayo acompañe a la lluvia, y envía el viento desde sus almacenes.
17 Then standeth every man as brutish without knowledge; ashamed is every goldsmith because of the graven image; for falsehood is his molten work, and there is no breath therein.
Todos son estúpidos; no saben nada. Todos los trabajadores del metal se avergüenzan de los ídolos que fabrican. Porque sus imágenes hechas de metal fundido son fraudulentas: ¡no están vivas!
18 They are vanity, the work of deception: in the time of their punishment shall they vanish.
Son inútiles, un objeto de risa. Serán destruidos en el momento de su castigo.
19 Not like these is the portion of Jacob; for He is the former of all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: The Lord of hosts is his name.
El Dios de Jacob no es como esos ídolos, pues es el creador de todo, incluso de su propio pueblo, que es especial para él. El Señor Todopoderoso es su nombre.
20 Thou art a hammer unto me, weapons of war; and I strike down with thee nations, and I destroy with thee kingdoms;
Tú eres mi garrote de guerra, el arma que uso en la batalla. Te uso para destruir naciones; te uso para destruir reinos.
21 And I strike down with thee the horse and his rider; and I strike down with thee the chariot and its rider;
Te uso para destruir caballos y sus jinetes; te uso para destruir carros y sus conductores.
22 And I strike down with thee man and woman; and I strike down with thee the aged and the lad; and I strike down with thee the young man and the virgin:
Te uso para destruir hombres y mujeres; te uso para destruir ancianos y jóvenes; te uso para destruir jóvenes y niñas.
23 And I strike down with thee the shepherd and his flock; and I strike down with thee the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and I strike down with thee governors and rulers.
Te uso para destruir a los pastores y sus rebaños; te uso para destruir a los agricultores y su ganado; te uso para destruir a los gobernantes y a los funcionarios del Estado.
24 But [now] will I repay unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion before your eyes, saith the Lord.
Delante de ti voy a pagar a Babilonia y a todos los que viven en Babilonia todo el mal que le hicieron a Jerusalén, declara el Señor.
25 Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the Lord, which destroyest all the earth; and I will stretch out my hand over thee, and I will roll thee down from the rocks, and will render thee a burnt mountain.
Ten cuidado, porque estoy contra ti, monstruo destructor que arrasa el mundo entero, declara el Señor. Llegaré a atacarte; te haré rodar por los acantilados; te convertiré en una montaña de ceniza.
26 And they shall not take from thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but everlasting ruins shalt thou be, saith the Lord.
Nadie podrá ni siquiera encontrar una piedra angular o una piedra de cimentación entre tus ruinas, porque serás destruido por completo, declara el Señor.
27 Lift ye up a standard in the land, blow ye the cornet among the nations, make ready against her nations, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; appoint against her a commander; cause the horses to come up like the hairy locusts.
¡Izad una bandera de señales en el país! ¡Toca la trompeta de llamada a la guerra entre las naciones! Preparen a las naciones para atacarla; convoquen a los reinos para marchar contra ella: Ararat, Minni y Asquenaz. Elige a un comandante para que dirija los ejércitos que la atacarán; envía a la caballería de batalla como una nube de langostas.
28 Make ready against her the nations with the kings of Media, its governors, and all its rulers, and all the land of their dominion.
Haz que los ejércitos de las naciones se preparen para la batalla contra ella. Esto se aplica a los reyes de los medos, a sus jefes y a todos sus oficiales, y a todos los países que gobiernan.
29 And the earth quaketh and trembleth; for every one of the purposes of the Lord is fulfilled against Babylon, to change the land of Babylon into a desolate country without an inhabitant.
La tierra se estremece y tiembla, porque el Señor está decidido a cumplir lo que amenazó contra Babilonia: convertirla en un páramo donde nadie viva.
30 The mighty men of Babylon have ceased to fight, they sit still in [their] strongholds; their might is vanished; they are become as women: they have burnt her dwelling-places; her bars are broken.
Los defensores de Babilonia han renunciado a luchar; se han quedado sentados en sus fortalezas. Están agotados; se han vuelto como mujeres asustadas. Las casas de Babilonia están en llamas; los barrotes que aseguran sus puertas han sido destrozados.
31 One runner shall run to meet another runner, and one messenger to meet another messenger, to tell unto the king of Babylon that his city is captured at all ends,
Un corredor entrega su mensaje a otro para que lo lleve; un mensajero sigue a otro mensajero, todos ellos alertan al rey de Babilonia de la noticia de que su ciudad ha sido completamente conquistada,
32 And that the passages have been seized, and that they have burnt the reeds with fire, and that the men of war are affrighted.
los cruces de los ríos han sido capturados, los pantanos incendiados y sus soldados están aterrorizados.
33 For thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, the daughter of Babylon is like a threshing-floor, at the time they thresh therein; but yet a little while more, when the time of harvest shall come for her.
Esto es lo que dice el Señor Todopoderoso, el Dios de Israel: El pueblo de Babilonia es como una era cuando el grano es pisoteado. Su tiempo de cosecha llegará muy pronto.
34 “Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon devoured me, he crushed me, he set me down as an empty vessel, he swallowed me up like a huge serpent, he filled his belly with my delicacies: he drove me out.
Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, me masticó y me secó, dejándome tan vacía como un frasco sin nada dentro. Me engulló como si fuera un monstruo, llenándose de las partes más sabrosas de mí y tirando el resto.
35 the violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon,” will the inhabitress of Zion say; and “My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea,” will Jerusalem say.
“Babilonia debe cargar con la responsabilidad de los violentos ataques contra nosotros”, dicen los habitantes de Sión. “El pueblo de Babilonia debe cargar con la responsabilidad de la sangre derramada en mi ciudad”, dice Jerusalén.
36 Therefore thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will contend in thy cause, and execute vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and cause her springs to fail.
Esto es lo que dice el Señor: Mira cómo presento tu caso por ti y hago que tus enemigos paguen por lo que te hicieron. Voy a secar su río y sus manantiales.
37 And Babylon shall become ruinous heaps, a dwelling-place for monsters, an astonishment, and a derision, without an inhabitant.
Babilonia se convertirá en un montón de escombros, un hogar para chacales, un lugar que horroriza a la gente, un lugar del que se burlan, un lugar donde nadie vive.
38 Together like lions shall they roar: they shall yell like the lions' whelps.
Los babilonios rugirán juntos como leones poderosos y gruñirán como cachorros de león.
39 When they are heated will I prepare their drinking-feasts, and I will make them drunken, in order that they may be joyful, and [then] sleep a perpetual sleep, and not awake again, saith the Lord.
Pero mientras se despiertan sus pasiones, les serviré un banquete y los embriagaré. Celebrarán tanto que se desmayarán y no despertarán jamás, declara el Señor.
40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like wethers with he-goats.
Los bajaré como corderos para ser sacrificados, como carneros y cabras.
41 How is Sheshach captured! and how is conquered the praise of the whole earth! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!
¿Cómo puede ser? Babilonia ¡ha caído! ¡La ciudad más famosa del mundo ha sido conquistada! ¡En qué horrible espectáculo se ha convertido Babilonia para todos los que la miran!
42 The sea is come up over Babylon: with the multitude of its waves is she covered.
Es como si el mar se hubiera desbordado sobre Babilonia, cubriéndola de olas.
43 Her cities are become desolate places, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein not any man shall dwell, and through which no son of man shall pass along.
Las ciudades de Babilonia están en ruinas, convertidas en un páramo seco y desértico donde nadie vive, ni siquiera pasa por allí.
44 And I will inflict punishment on Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth what he hath swallowed up out of his mouth; and nations shall not assemble together like a stream unto him any more; yea, the wall of Babylon also is fallen.
Yo castigaré a Bel en Babilonia. Le obligaré a escupir lo que se ha tragado. La gente de otras naciones ya no correrá a adorarle. Hasta la muralla de Babilonia ha caído.
45 Go ye out of the midst of her, my people, and save ye every man his life from the fierceness of the anger of the Lord.
¡Pueblo mío, salid de ella! Cada uno de ustedes, sálvense de la furiosa ira del Señor.
46 And so that your heart may not faint, and ye fear at the report that is heard in the land: when the report cometh in one year, and after that in another year cometh another report, and when violence [be done] in the land, [by] ruler against ruler.
No pierdan el valor, y no tengan miedo cuando oigan diferentes rumores que circulan por el país. Habrá un rumor un año, y otro al siguiente, hablando de revolución violenta, de un gobernante luchando contra otro.
47 Therefore, behold, days are coming, when I will inflict punishment on the graven images of Babylon, and her whole land shall be put to shame, and all her slain shall fail in the midst of her.
Mira, se acerca el momento en que castigaré a los ídolos de Babilonia. Todo el país será humillado; estará lleno de los cadáveres de los asesinados.
48 And then shall the heaven and the earth, and all that is therein, sing because of Babylon; for from the north shall come unto her the destroyers, saith the Lord.
Entonces todos en el cielo y en la tierra celebrarán con gritos de alegría lo que le ha sucedido a Babilonia, porque los destructores del norte vendrán a atacarla, declara el Señor.
49 Also Babylon is destined to fall, O ye slain ones of Israel, also at Babylon fall the slain of all the land.
Babilonia tiene que caer por culpa de los israelitas y de la gente de otras naciones que ella mató.
50 [But] ye that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember afar off the Lord, and let Jerusalem rise up in your heart.
Aquellos de ustedes que han logrado escapar de ser asesinados, ¡salgan ahora! ¡No se demoren! Recuerden al Señor en este lugar lejano; piensen en Jerusalén.
51 “We had been made ashamed, because we had heard reproach: confusion had covered our faces; because strangers were come into the sanctuaries of the Lord's house.”
“Estamos avergonzados porque nos han burlado, y nos agarramos la cabeza con vergüenza porque los extranjeros entraron en los lugares santos del Templo del Señor”,
52 Therefore, behold, days are coming, saith the Lord, when I will inflict punishment on her graven images: and through all her land shall groan the deadly wounded.
Por eso, manténganse alerta, declara el Señor, porque se acerca el momento en que la castigaré por adorar a los ídolos, y el sonido de los heridos gimiendo se escuchará en todo el país.
53 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength; yet from me should destroyers come unto her, saith the Lord.
Aunque Babilonia pudiera subir al cielo para fortalecer sus altas fortalezas, los que yo envíe a atacarla la destruirán, declara el Señor.
54 A sound of a painful cry cometh from Babylon, and of a great breach from the land of the Chaldeans;
Un grito viene de Babilonia; el ruido de una terrible destrucción viene del país de Babilonia.
55 Because the Lord wasteth Babylon, and destroyeth out of her the loud noise; but their waves roar like great waters, the noise of their voice is sent forth;
Porque el Señor va a destruir a Babilonia; pondrá fin a su fanfarronería. Las olas del ejército atacante rugirán como el mar que se estrella; el ruido de sus gritos resonará por todas partes.
56 Because the destroyer is come over her, over Babylon, and her mighty men are caught, every one of their bows is broken; for the God of recompenses, the Lord, will surely requite.
Un destructor viene a atacar a Babilonia. Sus soldados serán tomados prisioneros y sus arcos serán destrozados, porque el Señor es un Dios que castiga con justicia; definitivamente les pagará.
57 And I will make drunken her princes, and her wise men, her governors, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not awake again, saith the King, The Lord of hosts is his name.
Embriagaré a sus dirigentes y sabios, así como a sus comandantes, oficiales y soldados. Entonces se desmayarán y no despertarán jamás, declara el Rey, cuyo nombre es el Señor Todopoderoso.
58 Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, Every one of the broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burnt with fire; so that nations shall have labored in vain, and the people for the fire, and so shall they have wearied themselves.
Esto es lo que dice el Señor Todopoderoso: Las enormes murallas de Babilonia serán derribadas hasta los cimientos y sus altas puertas serán quemadas. Todo lo que el pueblo trabajó no servirá para nada; las otras naciones que vinieron a ayudar se agotarán, sólo para ver que lo que han hecho arderá en llamas.
59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Serayah the son of Neriyah, the son of Machseyah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah unto Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Serayah was chief chamberlain.
Este es el mensaje que el profeta Jeremías dio a Seraías, hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maseías, cuando acompañó al rey Sedequías de Judá a Babilonia en el cuarto año del reinado de Sedequías. Seraías era el asistente personal del rey.
60 And Jeremiah wrote down all the evil that should come upon Babylon in one book, namely, all these words that are written concerning Babylon.
Jeremías había escrito en un pergamino una descripción de todos los desastres que vendrían a Babilonia: todas estas palabras escritas aquí sobre Babilonia.
61 And Jeremiah said to Serayah, As thou comest to Babylon, see to it, that thou read all these words;
Jeremías le dijo a Seraías: “Cuando llegues a Babilonia, asegúrate de leer en voz alta todo lo que está escrito aquí,
62 And thou shalt say, O Lord, thou thyself hast spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, so that there shall not be in it an inhabitant, either man or beast; but that it shall become a desolate place for ever.
y anuncia: ‘Señor, has prometido destruir este lugar para que no quede nada, ni personas ni animales. De hecho, quedará desierta para siempre’.
63 And it shall be, when thou hast finished reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and throw it into the midst of the Euphrates;
“Cuando termines de leer este rollo en voz alta, ata una piedra a él y arrójala al Éufrates.
64 And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again from the evil that I will bring upon her: and her people shall be wearied. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
“Luego di: ‘Así es como Babilonia se hundirá y no volverá a levantarse, por el desastre que estoy haciendo caer sobre ella. Su pueblo se cansará’”. Este es el final de los mensajes de Jeremías.
