Jeremiah 47

1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before the time that Pharaoh smote Gazzah.

Hili ndilo neno la Bwana lililomjia nabii Yeremia kuhusu Wafilisti, kabla Farao hajaishambulia Gaza:

2 Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, waters are coming up out of the north, and they shall become an overflowing stream, and shall overflow the land, and what filleth it; the city, and those that dwell therein: and the men shall cry aloud, and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.

Hili ndilo asemalo Bwana: “Tazama jinsi maji yanavyoinuka huko kaskazini, yatakuwa mafuriko yenye nguvu sana. Yataifurikia nchi na vitu vyote vilivyomo ndani yake, miji na wale waishio ndani yake. Watu watapiga kelele; wote waishio katika nchi wataomboleza

3 Because of the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stud-horses, because of the rushing sound of his chariots, the rumbling of his wheels, fathers do not turn round to their children from their feebleness of hands;

kwa sauti ya kwato za farasi waendao mbio, kwa sauti ya magari ya adui na mngurumo wa magurudumu yake. Baba hawatageuka kuwasaidia watoto wao, mikono yao italegea.

4 Because of the day that cometh to devastate all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Zidon every helper that remaineth; for the Lord devastateth the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Caphthor.

Kwa maana siku imewadia kuwaangamiza Wafilisti wote na kuwakatilia mbali walionusurika wote ambao wangeweza kusaidia Tiro na Sidoni. Bwana anakaribia kuwaangamiza Wafilisti, mabaki toka pwani za Kaftori.

5 Baldness is come upon Gazzah; ruined is Ashkelon with the remnant of their valley: how long yet wilt thou cut thyself?

Gaza atanyoa kichwa chake katika kuomboleza, Ashkeloni atanyamazishwa. Enyi mabaki kwenye tambarare, mtajikatakata wenyewe mpaka lini?

6 Woe! thou sword of the Lord, how long yet wilt thou not be quiet? withdraw thyself into thy scabbard, take thee rest, and be still.

“Mnalia, ‘Aa, upanga wa Bwana, utaendelea mpaka lini ndipo upumzike? Rudi ndani ya ala yako; acha na utulie.’

7 Yet how canst thou be quiet? When the Lord hath given it a charge, against Ashkelon, and against the sea-coast—thither hath he destined it.

Lakini upanga utatuliaje wakati Bwana ameuamuru, wakati ameuagiza kuishambulia Ashkeloni pamoja na pwani yake?”
