Esther 1
1 And it came to pass in the days of Achashverosh, of the same Achashverosh who reigned, from India even unto Ethiopia, over a hundred and seven and twenty provinces,
E succedeu nos dias de Assuero (este é aquelle Assuero que reinou desde a India até Ethiopia, sobre cento e vinte e sete provincias):
2 In those days, when this king Achashverosh was sitting on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the capital,
N'aquelles dias, assentando-se o rei Assuero sobre o throno do seu reino, que está na fortaleza de Susan,
3 That, in the third year of his reign, he made a feast unto all his princes and his servants, the army of Persia and Media, the nobles and the princes of the provinces who were near him:
No terceiro anno do seu reinado, fez um convite a todos os seus principes e seus servos (o poder da Persia e Media e os maiores senhores das provincias estavam perante elle),
4 When he showed the riches and the glory of his kingdom, and the brilliance [and] the splendor of his greatness, during many days, a hundred and eighty days.
Para mostrar as riquezas da gloria do seu reino, e o esplendor da sua excellente grandeza, por muitos dias, a saber: cento e oitenta dias.
5 And when these days were completed, the king made unto all the people that were found in Shushan the capital, unto every one, from the great even to the small, a feast of seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace;
E, acabados aquelles dias, fez o rei um convite a todo o povo que se achou na fortaleza de Susan, desde o maior até ao menor, por sete dias, no pateo do jardim do palacio real.
6 [Where were] white, green, and blue [hangings], fastened with cords of fine linen and purple, on rollers of silver and pillars of marble; couches of gold and silver, upon a pavement of green, and white, and yellow, and black marble.
As tapeçarias eram de branco, verde, e azul celeste, pendentes de cordões de linho fino e purpura, e argolas de prata, e columnas de marmore: os leitos d'oiro e de prata, sobre um pavimento de porphyro, e de marmore, e d'alabastro, e de pedras preciosas.
7 And they gave them to drink in vessels of gold, —the vessels being diverse one from the other, —and the royal wine was in abundance, according to the ability of the king.
E dava-se de beber em vasos d'oiro, e os vasos eram differentes uns dos outros; e havia muito vinho real, segundo o estado do rei.
8 And the drinking was, according to the [king's] order, without compulsion; for so had the king enjoined on all the officers of his house, to do according to the pleasure of every man.
E o beber era por lei, que ninguem forçasse a outro: porque assim o tinha ordenado o rei expressamente a todos os grandes da sua casa, que fizessem conforme á vontade de cada um.
9 Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women, in the royal house which belonged to king Achashverosh.
Tambem a rainha Vasthi fez um convite ás mulheres, na casa real, que tinha o rei Assuero.
10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Charbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcass, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of king Achashverosh,
E ao setimo dia, estando já o coração do rei alegre do vinho, mandou a Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, e Abagtha, Zethar, e a Carchas, os sete eunuchos que serviam na presença do rei Assuero,
11 To bring Vashti the queen before the king [ornamented] with the royal crown, to show the people and the princes her beauty; for she was handsome in appearance.
Que introduzissem na presença do rei a rainha Vasthi, com a corôa real, para mostrar aos povos e aos principes a sua formosura, porque era formosa á vista.
12 But queen Vashti refused to come at the word of the king brought by the hand of the chamberlains; and the king was very wroth, and his fury burnt in him.
Porém a rainha Vasthi recusou vir conforme á palavra do rei, pela mão dos eunuchos; pelo que o rei muito se enfureceu, e ardeu n'elle a sua ira.
13 Then said the king to the wise men, who knew [the occurrences of] the times; for so [came] every affair of the king before all acquainted with law and state institutions;
Então disse o rei aos sabios que entendiam dos tempos (porque assim se tratavam os negocios do rei na presença de todos os que sabiam a lei e o direito;
14 And those next unto him were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tharshish, Meress, Marsena, and Memuchan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who could see [at all times] the king's face, who sat in the first rank in the kingdom:
E os mais chegados a elle eram: Carsena, Sethar, Admatha, Tarsis, Meres, Marsena, Memuchan, os sete principes dos persas e dos medos, que viam a face do rei, e se assentavam os primeiros no reino)
15 What should according to law be done with queen Vashti; because she had not fulfilled the order of king Achashverosh by the hand of the chamberlains?
Que, segundo a lei, se devia fazer da rainha Vasthi, por não haver feito o mandado do rei Assuero, pela mão dos eunuchos?
16 Then said Memuchan before the king and the princes, Not against the king alone hath Vashti the queen done wrong, but also against all the princes, and against all the people that are in all the provinces of king Achashverosh.
Então disse Memuchan na presença do rei e dos principes: Não sómente peccou contra o rei a rainha Vasthi, porém tambem contra todos os principes, e contra todos os povos que ha em todas as provincias do rei Assuero.
17 For the conduct of the queen will go abroad unto all the women, so that they will despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, King Achashverosh ordered Vashti the queen to be brought into his presence, but she came not.
Porque a noticia d'este feito da rainha sairá a todas as mulheres, de modo que desprezarão a seus maridos aos seus olhos quando se disser: Mandou o rei Assuero que introduzissem á sua presença a rainha Vasthi, porém ella não veiu.
18 And even this day will the ladies of Persia and Media, who have heard of the conduct of the queen, say this unto all the princes of the king; and there will arise too much contempt and quarrel.
E n'este mesmo dia as princezas da Persia e da Media dirão o mesmo a todos os principes do rei, ouvindo o feito da rainha: e assim haverá assaz desprezo e indignação.
19 If it please the king, let there go forth a royal order from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that no one transgress it, That Vashti come no more before king Achashverosh: and let the king give her royal dignity unto another that is better than she.
Se bem parecer ao rei, saia da sua parte um edicto real, e escreva-se nas leis dos persas e dos medos, e não se quebrante, a saber: que Vasthi não entre mais na presença do rei Assuero, e o rei dê o reino d'ella á sua companheira que seja melhor do que ella
20 And when the king's decree which he will make shall be published throughout all his kingdom, however great it is: all the wives will show respect to their husbands, unto every one, from the great even to the small.
E, ouvindo-se o mandado, que o rei mandar em todo o seu reino (ainda que é grande), todas as mulheres darão honra a seus maridos, desde a maior até á menor.
21 And the speech was pleasing in the eyes of the king and of the princes; and the king did according to the speech of Memuchan.
E pareceram bem estas palavras aos olhos do rei e dos principes: e fez o rei conforme á palavra de Memuchan.
22 And he sent letters unto all the provinces of the king, unto every province according to its writing, and to every people according to its language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, however he may speak according to the language of his people.
Então enviou cartas a todas as provincias do rei, a cada provincia segundo a sua escriptura, e a cada povo segundo a sua lingua: que cada homem fosse senhor em sua casa, e que se publicasse conforme á lingua do seu povo.
