1 Samuel 2
1 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart is glad in the Lord, my horn is exalted through the Lord: my mouth is enlarged over my enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.
Hannah pria et dit, « Mon cœur exulte en Yahvé! Ma corne est exaltée en Yahvé. Ma bouche s'élargit sur mes ennemis, car je me réjouis de ton salut.
2 There is none holy like the Lord; for there is none beside thee; and there is not any rock like our God.
Il n'y a personne d'aussi saint que Yahvé, car il n'y a personne d'autre que toi, et il n'y a aucun rocher comme notre Dieu.
3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogance come out of your mouth; for a God of knowledge is the Lord, and by him are actions weighed.
« Ne continuez pas à parler avec tant d'orgueil. Ne laissez pas l'arrogance sortir de votre bouche, car Yahvé est un Dieu de la connaissance. C'est par lui que les actions sont pesées.
4 The bow of the mighty is broken, and those that stumbled are girded with strength.
« Les arcs des puissants sont brisés. Ceux qui ont trébuché sont armés de force.
5 They that were full hire themselves out for bread; and they that were hungry cease [from labor]: while the barren hath born seven, she that hath many children fadeth away.
Ceux qui étaient rassasiés se sont loués pour du pain. Ceux qui avaient faim sont satisfaits. Oui, la stérile a donné naissance à sept enfants. Celle qui a beaucoup d'enfants se languit.
« Yahvé tue et fait vivre. Il descend au Shéol et remonte. (Sheol h7585)
7 The Lord maketh poor and maketh rich: he bringeth low and also lifteth up.
Yahvé rend pauvre et enrichit. Il abaisse, il élève aussi.
8 He raiseth up out of the dust the poor, from the dunghill he lifteth up the needy, to set them among nobles, and he assigneth them the throne of glory; for the Lord's are the pillars of the earth, on which he hath set the world.
Il fait sortir les pauvres de la poussière. Il soulève les nécessiteux du tas de fumier. pour les faire asseoir avec les princes et hériter du trône de gloire. Car les piliers de la terre appartiennent à Yahvé. Il a mis le monde sur eux.
9 He ever guardeth the feet of his pious ones, and the wicked shall be made silent in darkness; for not by strength can man prevail.
Il gardera les pieds de ses saints, mais les méchants seront réduits au silence dans les ténèbres; car aucun homme ne prévaudra par la force.
10 The Lord—his adversaries will be crushed; out of heaven will he thunder upon them: the Lord will judge the ends of the earth; and he will give strength unto his king, and lift up the horn of his anointed.
Ceux qui luttent contre Yahvé seront mis en pièces. Il tonnera contre eux dans le ciel. « Yahvé jugera les extrémités de la terre. Il donnera de la force à son roi, et exalte la corne de son oint. »
11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the lad was ministering unto the Lord before 'Eli the priest.
Elkana se rendit à Rama, dans sa maison. L'enfant servit Yahvé devant le prêtre Eli.
12 And the sons of 'Eli were worthless men: they knew not the Lord.
Or les fils d'Eli étaient des hommes méchants. Ils ne connaissaient pas Yahvé.
13 And the custom of the priests with the people was, that, when any man offered a sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while [the man] was seething the flesh, with a fork with three teeth in his hand;
La coutume des prêtres avec le peuple était que, lorsque quelqu'un offrait un sacrifice, le serviteur du prêtre venait pendant que la viande bouillait, avec une fourchette de trois dents dans la main;
14 And he struck it into the pan, or the kettle, or the caldron, or the pot; [and] all that the fork brought up the priest took away with it. So did they unto all the Israelites that came thither, to Shiloh.
et il la plantait dans la casserole, ou la marmite, ou le chaudron, ou le pot. Le prêtre prenait pour lui tout ce que la fourchette faisait remonter. On faisait cela à tous les Israélites qui venaient là, à Silo.
15 Even before they had yet burnt the fat, the priest's servant would come, and say to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not take from thee sodden flesh, but raw.
Avant de brûler la graisse, le serviteur du prêtre vint et dit à l'homme qui avait sacrifié: « Donne de la viande à rôtir pour le prêtre, car il n'acceptera pas de toi de la viande bouillie, mais crue. »
16 And if the man said unto him, They will surely presently burn the fat, and then take whatever thy soul may long for: then would he say, No; but thou shalt give it me now; and if not, I will take it by force.
Si l'homme lui disait: « Qu'on brûle d'abord la graisse, et qu'ensuite tu prennes autant que ton âme le désire », il répondait: « Non, mais tu me la donneras maintenant; sinon, je la prendrai de force. »
17 And the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord; for the men despised the offering of the Lord.
Le péché des jeunes gens fut très grand devant l'Éternel, car ils méprisèrent l'offrande de l'Éternel.
18 But Samuel was ministering before the Lord, being a lad, girded with a linen ephod.
Samuel, lui, faisait le service devant l'Éternel; il était encore un enfant, vêtu d'un éphod de lin.
19 Moreover his mother used to make him a little overcoat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
Sa mère lui fit aussi une petite robe, qu'elle lui apporta d'année en année, quand elle montait avec son mari pour offrir le sacrifice annuel.
20 And 'Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, May the Lord give thee seed from this woman instead of the loan who is lent to the Lord. And they went back unto his place.
Eli bénit Elkana et sa femme et dit: « Que l'Éternel vous donne une descendance de cette femme pour la demande qui a été faite à l'Éternel. » Puis ils s'en allèrent chez eux.
21 And truly the Lord visited Hannah, and she conceived, and bore three sons and two daughters. And the lad Samuel grew up before the Lord.
Yahvé visita Anne, qui conçut et enfanta trois fils et deux filles. L'enfant Samuel grandit devant Yahvé.
22 Now 'Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons were in the habit of doing unto all Israel; and how they would lie with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Or Éli était très vieux, et il apprit tout ce que ses fils faisaient à tout Israël, et comment ils couchaient avec les femmes qui servaient à l'entrée de la tente de la Rencontre.
23 And he said unto them, Why will ye do such things? for I hear of your evil dealings from all this people.
Il leur dit: « Pourquoi faites-vous de telles choses? Car j'apprends de tous ces gens que vous agissez mal.
24 No, my sons; for the report that I hear is not good, which the Lord's people spread abroad.
Non, mes fils, car ce n'est pas un bon rapport que j'entends! Vous faites désobéir le peuple de Yahvé.
25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him; but if against the Lord a man should sin, who shall pray for him? Nevertheless would they not hearken unto the voice of their father, because the Lord desired to slay them.
Si un homme pèche contre un autre, Dieu le jugera; mais si un homme pèche contre Yahvé, qui intercédera pour lui? ». Malgré tout, ils n'ont pas écouté la voix de leur père, car Yahvé avait l'intention de les tuer.
26 And the lad Samuel was constantly growing and increasing in favor both with the Lord, and also with men.
L'enfant Samuel grandissait et augmentait sa popularité auprès de Yahvé et des hommes.
27 And there came a man of God unto 'Eli, and said unto him, Thus hath said the Lord, Did I [not] appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt, in Pharaoh's house?
Un homme de Dieu s'approcha d'Eli et lui dit: « Yahvé dit: « Ne me suis-je pas révélé à la maison de ton père lorsqu'ils étaient en Égypte, en servitude chez Pharaon?
28 And did I [not] choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to me as a priest, to offer upon my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I [not] give unto the house of thy father all the fire-offerings of the children of Israel?
Ne l'ai-je pas choisi parmi toutes les tribus d'Israël pour être mon prêtre, pour monter à mon autel, pour brûler les parfums, pour porter l'éphod devant moi? N'ai-je pas donné à la maison de ton père toutes les offrandes consumées par le feu des enfants d'Israël?
29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at my meat-offering, which I have commanded in [my] habitation? and [why] honoredst thou thy sons above me, to fatten yourselves with the first of every offering of Israel my people?
Pourquoi donnez-vous des coups de pied à mon sacrifice et à mon offrande, que j'ai ordonnés dans ma demeure, et honorez-vous vos fils au-dessus de moi, pour vous engraisser avec les meilleures de toutes les offrandes d'Israël, mon peuple?
30 Therefore saith the Lord the God of Israel, I had indeed said, Thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever; but now, saith the Lord, Be it far from me; for those that honor me will I honor, and those that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
C'est pourquoi Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël, dit: « J'ai dit que ta maison et la maison de ton père marcheraient devant moi pour toujours. Mais maintenant, Yahvé dit: 'Loin de moi cette idée, car j'honorerai ceux qui m'honorent, et je maudirai ceux qui me méprisent'.
31 Behold, days are coming, that I will hew off thy arm, and the arm of thy father's house, so that there shall not be an old man in thy house.
Voici que les jours viennent où je couperai ton bras et le bras de la maison de ton père, et où il n'y aura plus de vieillard dans ta maison.
32 And thou shalt behold a rival in my habitation, in all that by which he will do good for Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thy house in all times.
Tu verras l'affliction de ma demeure, dans toutes les richesses que je donnerai à Israël. Il n'y aura pas à jamais de vieillard dans ta maison.
33 And yet I will not cut off the men descended from thee from my altar, to consume thy eyes, and to grieve thy soul: and all the increase of thy house shall die as [vigorous] men.
L'homme de ta maison que je ne retrancherai pas de mon autel consumera tes yeux et affligera ton cœur. Tout l'accroissement de ta maison mourra dans la fleur de l'âge.
34 And this shall be unto thee the sign, that shall happen on thy two sons, on Chophni and Phinehas: On one day shall they, both of them, die.
Tel sera pour toi le signe qui viendra sur tes deux fils, Hophni et Phinées: en un seul jour, ils mourront tous les deux.
35 And I will raise up to me a faithful priest, who shall do in accordance with what is in my heart and in my mind; and I will build for him an enduring house; and he shall walk before my anointed in all times.
Je me susciterai un prêtre fidèle qui agira selon ce qui est dans mon cœur et dans mon esprit. Je lui bâtirai une maison sûre. Il marchera devant mon oint pour toujours.
36 And it shall come to pass, that whoever is left in thy house shall come to bow down to him for a gera of silver and a loaf of bread, and shall say, Attach me, I pray thee, unto one of the priestly offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.
Tous ceux qui resteront dans ta maison viendront se prosterner devant lui pour une pièce d'argent et une miche de pain, et diront: « Mets-moi dans l'une des fonctions sacerdotales, je te prie, pour que je mange un morceau de pain. »"
