1 Chronicles 21
1 And the Accuser stood up against Israel, and incited David to count Israel.
Satan se dressa contre Israël, et il poussa David à faire le recensement d'Israël.
2 And David said to Joab, and to the princes of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba' even to Dan, and bring their number to me, that I may know it.
David dit à Joab et aux chefs du peuple: « Allez recenser Israël depuis Beer Schéba jusqu'à Dan, et rapportez-moi un rapport, afin que je sache combien ils sont. »
3 Then said Joab, May the Lord add unto his people, how many soever they be, a hundred-fold more: are they not all, my lord the king, my lord's servants? why then will my lord require this thing? why shall it be a cause of guiltiness for Israel?
Joab dit: « Que Yahvé rende son peuple cent fois plus nombreux qu'eux! Mais, mon seigneur le roi, ne sont-ils pas tous des serviteurs de mon seigneur? Pourquoi mon seigneur exige-t-il cela? Pourquoi sera-t-il une cause de culpabilité pour Israël? »
4 Nevertheless the king's word remained firm against Joab; and Joab went out, and moved about throughout all Israel, and came [back] to Jerusalem.
Mais la parole du roi l'emporta sur Joab. Joab partit donc, parcourut tout Israël, puis vint à Jérusalem.
5 And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto David: and there were [in] all Israel a thousand times thousand and one hundred thousand men that drew the sword: and [of] Judah were four hundred and seventy thousand men that drew the sword.
Joab remit à David le résultat du recensement du peuple. Tous ceux d'Israël étaient un million cent mille hommes tirant l'épée, et en Juda, quatre cent soixante-dix mille hommes tirant l'épée.
6 But Levi and Benjamin did he not count among them: for the king's word was abominable to Joab.
Mais il ne compta pas parmi eux Lévi et Benjamin, car la parole du roi était abominable pour Joab.
7 And this thing was displeasing in the eyes of God, and he smote Israel.
Dieu fut mécontent de cette chose, et il frappa Israël.
8 And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing; but now, I beseech thee, cause the iniquity of thy servant to pass away; for I have acted very foolishly.
David dit à Dieu: « J'ai beaucoup péché, en faisant cela. Mais maintenant, efface, je t'en prie, l'iniquité de ton serviteur, car j'ai fait une grande folie. »
9 And the Lord spoke unto Gad, David's seer, saying,
Yahvé parla à Gad, le voyant de David, et dit:
10 Go and speak unto David, saying, Thus hath said the Lord, Three things do I offer thee: choose for thyself one of them, and I will do it unto thee.
« Va parler à David, et dis-lui: « Yahvé dit: Je te propose trois choses. Choisis l'une d'elles, et je te la ferai. »"
11 So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus hath said the Lord, Select for thyself,
Gad se rendit auprès de David et lui dit: « Yahvé dit: « Choisis:
12 Whether there shall be three years famine; or three months, to be destroyed before thy adversaries, so that the sword of thy enemies overtake thee; or that during three days the sword of the Lord, even the pestilence, shall be in the land, and an angel of the Lord destroying throughout all the boundaries of Israel? And now reflect what word I shall bring back to him that hath sent me.
ou bien trois années de famine, ou bien trois mois à être consumés devant tes ennemis, tandis que l'épée de tes ennemis te surprendra, ou bien trois jours de l'épée de Yahvé, la peste dans le pays, et l'ange de Yahvé qui détruit sur tout le territoire d'Israël. Considérez donc maintenant quelle réponse je ferai à celui qui m'a envoyé.'"
13 And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall then into the hand of the Lord; for his mercies are very great; but let me not fall into the hand of man.
David dit à Gad: « Je suis dans la détresse. Laisse-moi tomber, je t'en prie, dans la main de Yahvé, car ses miséricordes sont très grandes. Ne me laisse pas tomber dans la main de l'homme. »
14 So the Lord sent a pestilence in Israel, and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
Yahvé envoya une peste sur Israël, et soixante-dix mille hommes d'Israël tombèrent.
15 And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was destroying, the Lord looked on, and he bethought himself of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough: now stay thy hand. And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Dieu envoya un ange à Jérusalem pour la détruire. Comme il s'apprêtait à détruire, Yahvé vit, et il se détourna du désastre, et dit à l'ange destructeur: « C'est assez. Maintenant retire ta main. » L'ange de Yahvé se tenait près de l'aire de battage d'Ornan, le Jébusien.
16 And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the Lord standing between the earth and the heavens, with his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem. Then fell David, with the elders wrapt in sackcloth, upon their faces.
David leva les yeux et vit l'ange de Yahvé qui se tenait entre la terre et le ciel, l'épée tirée dans sa main, tendue sur Jérusalem. Alors David et les anciens, vêtus de sacs, tombèrent sur leur visage.
17 And David said unto God, Was it not I that ordered to count the people? and I am the one that have sinned and have done evil indeed; but these sheep, what have they done? O Lord my God, let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house, but not against thy people, that there should be a plague.
David dit à Dieu: « N'est-ce pas moi qui ai ordonné le recensement du peuple? C'est moi qui ai péché et fait beaucoup de mal, mais ces brebis, qu'ont-elles fait? Je t'en prie, que ta main, Yahvé mon Dieu, soit contre moi et contre la maison de mon père, mais pas contre ton peuple, pour qu'il soit tourmenté. »
18 And the angel of the Lord spoke to Gad to say to David, that David should go up, to erect an altar unto the Lord on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Et l'ange de l'Éternel ordonna à Gad de dire à David que David devait monter et élever un autel à l'Éternel sur l'aire d'Ornan, le Jébusien.
19 And David went up by the word of Gad, which he had spoken in the name of the Lord.
David monta sur la parole de Gad, qu'il avait prononcée au nom de l'Éternel.
20 And when Ornan turned back, and saw the angel, then did he and his four sons with him hide themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
Ornan se retourna et vit l'ange, et ses quatre fils qui étaient avec lui se cachèrent. Ornan était en train de battre le blé.
21 And as David came up to Ornan, Ornan looked up and saw David; and he went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
Comme David s'approchait d'Ornan, Ornan regarda et vit David; il sortit de l'aire et se prosterna devant David, le visage contre terre.
22 Then said David to Ornan, “Grant me the site of this threshing-floor, that I may build thereon an altar unto the Lord: for the full price shalt thou give it unto me, so that the plague may be stayed from the people.”
David dit à Ornan: « Vends-moi l'emplacement de cette aire pour que j'y bâtisse un autel à Yahvé. Tu me le vendras au prix fort, afin que la plaie cesse de frapper le peuple. »
23 And Ornan said unto David, Take it for thyself, and let my lord the king do what is good in his eyes: lo, I give the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing-rollers for wood, and the wheat for the meat-offering; the whole do I give [thee].
Ornan dit à David: « Prends-le pour toi, et laisse mon seigneur le roi faire ce qui est bon à ses yeux. Voici, je donne les bœufs pour les holocaustes, les instruments de battage pour le bois, et le blé pour l'offrande. Je donne tout. »
24 And king David said to Ornan, No: but I will surely buy it at the full value; for I will not take what is thine for the Lord, so as to offer burnt-offerings without paying therefore.
Le roi David dit à Ornan: « Non, mais je l'achèterai certainement au prix fort. Car je ne veux pas prendre ce qui est à toi pour Yahvé, ni offrir un holocauste qui ne me coûte rien. »
25 So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
Et David donna à Ornan six cents sicles d'or au poids pour ce lieu.
26 And David built there an altar unto the Lord, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and he called on the Lord: and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering.
David y bâtit un autel à l'Éternel, et il offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices d'actions de grâces; il invoqua l'Éternel, qui lui répondit du haut du ciel par le feu sur l'autel des holocaustes.
27 And the Lord spoke to the angel, and he put back his sword into its sheath.
Alors Yahvé donna un ordre à l'ange, qui remit son épée dans son fourreau.
28 At that time when David saw that the Lord had answered him on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then did he sacrifice there.
En ce temps-là, David vit que Yahvé lui avait répondu dans l'aire d'Ornan, le Jébusien, et c'est là qu'il offrit des sacrifices.
29 But the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt-offering, were at that time in the high-place at Gib'on.
Car le tabernacle de Yahvé, que Moïse avait construit dans le désert, et l'autel des holocaustes, étaient en ce temps-là sur le haut lieu de Gabaon.
30 But David was not able to go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the Lord.
Mais David ne pouvait pas aller devant pour consulter Dieu, car il avait peur de l'épée de l'ange de Yahvé.
